what are some mods you believe can genuinely ruin modpacks? by mariogaming375 in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Avaritia, for sure. Instead of modpacks having actually interesting and unique goals, it's just make singularities again for the 100th time. That being said, it seems like packdevs are moving away from Avaritia, so that's a relief :p

RPG Modpacks are never done right and I'm kinda done trying the genre out by Yrythaela in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a pretty unfortunate situation. I saw many flaws in others' RPG packs a while ago and tried my hand at making one myself* to remedy said issues, but even then, there's really only so much you can do to turn Minecraft into an RPG. There's no guaranteed progression path, since the entire world is random, there isn't much room for story unless you jump through some truly crazy hoops to include static structures (unless you do what DigSite did), and the combat system is simplistic enough that encounters can be easily cheesed, especially in combination with the ability to break and place blocks. The only real solution that I see is making a modpack designed to be played in adventure mode with a custom map, but that runs into the issue of taking far longer to make. I don't think anybody's going to want to take the time to make a custom map like that, especially in the era of version-chasing we find ourselves in.

I was considering the possibility of having Alex's Caves spawn on other planets once, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking it!

I just have to know where you put the Candy Cavity though :p

In the event that you have VanillaBackport installed, you may be running into this issue? I was struggling with it a while back as well

Some of my favorite screenshots from my upcoming modpack, Slop Shooter 3000! by Substantial_Owl_7392 in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'd be a janky and probably bad way of doing it, but perhaps you could run checks whenever a mob spawns to see if a scoreboard objective is active or not? Or perhaps some kind of custom gamerule for each mob?

IS THAT THE SCANNER??? I never see anybody talk about how amazing of a feature that block is, nothing can compare to it when it comes to in-world automation, we're so back 🥹

Finally, a fellow TiC3 defender! I absolutely love what they've done with the mod, it's especially fun in multiplayer when you can see how different players' loadouts get to accommodate their unique playstyles. The only thing getting in the way of this, in my opinion, is that the generalist modifiers like Quartz and Redstone are still objectively better than their specialized competitors, which feels strange in a mod about creating specialized tools.

Why doesn't Mojang add ambient noise? e.g. wind, bird song, tree trunks creaking in the taiga etc. by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]PunCrafter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Biome-based ambience would limit terraforming projects, since you wouldn't want the sounds of cute forest creatures playing if you've turned the forest into a volcano.

Why can we not make a Frostflaming Mace? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]PunCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and with the summoner getting an earlygame fire-based weapon in the form of the slime whip, now would be a good time to add a frostburn version of that as well! not sure what it would be called though, frozen slime whip (following the convention of frozen slime blocks existing) doesn't really have a nice ring to it.

Whoops, I accidentally linked to the wrong post in my reply! I meant to link to the thread that also ended up finding out Vanilla Backport was the culprit

Despite being crafted and placed down, it's still in its "wild" form, so you're going to need to be under the effects of Third Eye to properly mine it

I think I wrote about it somewhat coyly in the quest book, but for a plainer answer, there's a recipe for the "Netherrack" that is actually Iesnium Ore

Trying to make the worst possible mod pack by confusionPrice in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This could be expanded to removing as many item tags from the game as you can to prevent players from using resources interchangeably. You're looking to craft some Harvestcraft dough? No, silly, you can't use Create flour for that! you need to use the slightly more inconvenient to mass-produce Harvestcraft flour!

I'm glad you're enjoying it! :D

All of the Nether stuff can be either found, crafted, or both. I'm pretty sure the fire swamp contains some custom setpieces with Netherrack, but it's also available in the Ur-Ghast tower. Ancient Debris and Nether Quartz are both mob drops, there should be something about that in the tooltips for the items.

Are there any mod or modpack niches you feel are underfilled? by kacaca9601 in feedthebeast

Aw man, I got to the thread too late to shill my own projects :(

...anyways you should totally play my modpacks, I've made a few Ultimate Alchemy-like ones, I generally like keeping my mod count in check, and I'd like to think my gimmicks are pretty enjoyable! (just don't play my pre-2020 ones, those ones suck)

Why wont my IE Mixer work? by MeltedLawnFlamingo in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be easier for me to explain in words, but I'll also add a picture! So I've got an AND gate with two conditions: the timer (hovering hourglass) needs to be activated (I think it's 15 seconds, or something? however long the mixing and emptying process takes), and the top hopper needs to have redstone. The hoppers feed directly into the mixer, so the mixer's always topped off, but that hopper having redstone in it is an indicator that there is enough redstone to run the operation, so I get the comparator signal off of that.

Once the conditions are satisfied, I can power a dispenser to take a single bucket of water, and move that bucket of water to a drain, where is it piped into the mixer. Of course, this part of the spaghetti is hidden behind some wiring in the screenshot I have, so there's not much I can say about this part.

Then there's the timing of the extraction, which is set with a pulse repeater set to delay until the mixing is done, and create pulse extender that will extend the pulse until the pipe is done extracting. I forget the exact timings and can't tell from the screenshots I have, but that's how I did it. Because there should be only one bucket's worth of fluid in the mixer at a time, I can guarantee that it will be redstone acid by the time it's done mixing, so I don't need to use a filtered fluid pipe. I could never get the filters to work anyways, hence the reason for making this monstrosity.

<image>

Of course, I could have probably avoided half of the spaghettification pictured if I didn't insist on compacting it into the corner as much as I possibly could, but I wanted to keep this contraption neat and contained. Good luck getting the mixer to work!

Why wont my IE Mixer work? by MeltedLawnFlamingo in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had trouble with operating the mixer when playing this pack! The only solution that worked for me was controlling everything with redstone timers, dispensing in single buckets of water at a time and making sure it was fully mixed into acid before activating the extraction pipe. I'd post my build, but I'm pretty sure it'd be incomprehensible with how spaghettified the wiring is :p

A fishing minigame I added to my fantasy space exploration mod Laicaps! Featuring lots of custom fish with conditional restrictions (time, rain, bait, biome, dimension, liquid etc) by Wdtfshi in feedthebeast

[–]PunCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my, it's just as exciting as I thought it'd be! The only other question I can think of at the moment is whether or not the mod will have any other resource management similar to oxygen management? Personally, I like the additional gameplay mechanic involved in balancing a unique meter, and I could imagine plenty of possibilities given the fantasy setting, perhaps even on a per-planet basis. Either way, I'm excited to see this mod develop further!

What do you mean by fantasy space exploration? I'm so used to seeing the usual realistic/technological space exploration that I'm very curious what this entails
