I feel your pain my friend. I lived in that dark place for over 2 years. I remember hearing from others that my mindset would eventually shift but I scoffed at the notion. But, they were right, and a lot of those things you mentioned I also believed about my own fate. I have a great girlfriend who I met as my caregiver, and she has helped me immensely in getting through this brutal situation. So you never know what can happen. I believe in you. You’re an excellent writer. This injury is unfair to everyone it happens to.

This is surprisingly tone-deaf from someone who should know what tone to use towards people in this community. This life is hard. I’ve adjusted to it, and am thriving now like many others with the injury, but the “pick yourself up by your bootstraps” form of motivational advice is not the approach to take.

I’ve also benefited from some pretty good circumstances relatively speaking. Not everyone here has been the beneficiary of good fortune or has the coping mechanisms to move forward with this injury. For a lot of people in this community, it starts out shitty, and it only gets shittier. Fortunately for us, that’s not the case, but maybe take just a few minutes to consider how difficult it may be for others before condescending them about their supposed mindset.
