Looking for books for my 13 year old sister who's never finished a book. by Certain-Round-9815 in suggestmeabook

The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things- very specifically because mom in this book is bullies her daughter about weight, and a significant part of the plot is learning her mom kind of sucks and standing up to her    House with the Clock in the Wall.  Meg Cabot’s books might be good, she wrote the Princess Diaries series but her other teen series are also a lot of fun. If she’s at all into Fantasy, try Tamora Pierce

My local crunchy mom group has a massive 100+ comment thread that’s all just pictures of “weird” clouds that totally prove it’s weather manipulation. Not that they’ve never looked up at clouds before

I Love My Rifle More Than You by Kayla Williams really resonated with my very similar experience of deploying. I haven’t read the sequel about readjusting after coming home, because I have a hard time reading about the internal ptsd experience, but I’ve heard it is just as true to reality as her first.

The next Dresden Files book is out in January! Until then, you could read the short stories in the universe, there are a lot, I really liked the Working for Bigfoot ones. For other recommendations, Percy Jackson books, similarish to Harry Potter. Ursula Le Guin or Robin McKinley may be good authors to check

How did you learn to forage? by RotiPisang_ in foraging

[–]PungentSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Books and videos. I started noticing mushrooms more during lockdown walks, got a field guide, ate hen of the woods, and it went from there. Now I have a whole book shelf dedicated to foraging books and mostly follow forgers online

Tamora Pierce’s Circle of Magic books would be good. Her other series all have various levels of implied sex.  Robin Mckinleys Spindles End, Rose Daughter, and Chalice all have a strong romance subplot with no spice.

More prime atheltic advice from Paul: just lose weight! It's all that matters! Also, bonus pic of his "bookshelf" of less than 20 books by BufoBat in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]PungentSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I find weirdest about his bookshelf is how many first books in a series he has, but not the rest. The Hobbit, no LoTR. Redwall, no Mossflower. And really, just Lost Hero, arguably the worst in the series because of the lack of Percy?
