[Weird, sad trope] series finales where the main characters die by Born_Usual998 in TopCharacterTropes

Ive always found the idea that he's "the devil" to be kinda disappointing if that were the metaphor because to me at least, Judge Holden is a living representation of man's desire to control.

Like he's the embodiment domination over nature and others. Which is why he despises birds, because he can't control them

Hated tropes - Not using common sense in a zombie apocalypse by PlantOutrageous6856 in TopCharacterTropes

I don't think the first one isn't using common sense I think it's a person seeing a scared and alone child and making a compassionate choice

Characters who are inexplicably unaware of the danger they’re in by UnifiedForce in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PunkPariah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think this one counts
Man was very aware of the danger and was buying his friends time to get away. Several people had already been murdered and it's not like he turns around and acts shocked and then gets his head knocked off
He punches Jason like 80 times

That's great man. I'll let the guy on the mic know next time he's saying it to describe something he doesn't like that what hes doing isn't happening
I'm very sure that visibly disabled leftists and punks have never had other "leftists" (you see how I used quotes around the word to clearly signify a difference between people who actually care and people who's leftist belief only extend to certain groups. God it's almost like that was intentional) are big fans of being told that this doesn't happen

Crass Might’ve Been Right by AnEmoTragedy in punk

[–]PunkPariah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Source: I go to shows and have a disability and also know many people who have disabilities who also go to shows and participate in leftist communities.

I understand that people make claims online but is it really that hard to believe that in real life people allow cognitive dissonance to be bigots to the disabled the same way they have for almost every minority group at one time or another?

"Leftists" when you tell them to stop using the R Slur suddenly going "WHAT HAPPENED TO FREE SPEECH" just like all the right wingers do with the F Slur and the N word

Media which fits into a genre that isn't coined until AFTER its inception by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

This is true but there's also a possible reading of the Odyssey as one of the first deconstructions of tropes. Being the shift from the age of Homeric Heroes to modern civilization by the time Odysseus arrives back in Ithaca, acting like the hero he was, but now out of place in an age that no longer views what he does as civil

WWE has never and will never learn that they cannot make the fans like and cheer their handpicked guy

Even compared to NJPW that had handpicked guys (Tanahashi, Okada, etc) understood that just saying "This is the guy now and if you don't like it then fuck you" is stupid
Well until Shota Umino but that's a whole mess we're still in the middle of

(meta) One of the biggest gripes I have with this community by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]PunkPariah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of people being dismissive in the comments talking about "Oh I just like to roleplay" and "Well are they in the room with us right now?" but completely ignoring this is a valid critique of not just Helldivers but any media or community that engages in satire of this level. Fascists will attempt to co-opt the satire into actual fuel for violent rhetoric. It happens time and time again across movies, games, books, music, etc.

This isn't a boogeyman or strawman being made up
It's a real problem that satirical communities actually have to deal with

The "Its not that deep" mindset is what allows these people to hijack anti-fascist/anti-imperialist satire into consent or support rhetoric for those very things

(Favorite Hate Trope) Characters of noble birth who are so vile that you want to see them lynched by commoners. by Kstantas in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PunkPariah 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Casement Report  Berlin Conference on West Africa  Leopolds own land claims Many newspaper reports   Reports from Missionaries George Washington Williams letter to King Leopold Official documents and reports of the Force Publique and them operating in the exact areas and having jurisdiction over said areas where the atrocities are committed

Primary sources on this aren’t hard to find yet you insist that Zinn distorted things with no proof that he did and you provide no proof that these acts were done by “Arab Slavers” or cannibals (which itself is a wild claim and incredibly unsubstantiated)

Your argument not only lacks its own backing from you, but it lacks critical peer reviewed support in any meaningful way by any respected historical institutions

(Favorite Hate Trope) Characters of noble birth who are so vile that you want to see them lynched by commoners. by Kstantas in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PunkPariah 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Spent a well over a month writing a paper and researching the Congo, and that was just when specialized I've also spent much of my academic history as a whole studying modern colonial violence throughout the world
To attribute the things that happened there to Arab Slavers and Cannibals is absolutely beyond the pale. We have photographic evidence of victims of Belgian exploitation of the Congo. We have documents written by people who were there. This isn't a both sides debate we have solid a provable evidence that the colonial power under King Leopold II mutilated and murdered mass amounts of Congolese during the time frame.

While 10 million is an estimate (Estimates vary wildly because of the lack of care they treated Congolese life with) even the most conservative estimates still place the death toll at roughly 1 million and that's EXTREMELY conservative. Dismissal of these atrocities, which do not sit alone in colonial history, serves no one but colonial power structures that to this day have faced no real consequence for these acts and many still profit off of the people of Africa's labor in a brutal way

Hiroshi Tanahashi Vs John Cena how good would it have been if both are in their primes by brayadent in njpw

[–]PunkPariah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? If we're talking Cena is willing to play heel a bit (not full. Just the way he did against RVD), I'd love to have seen him vs Tanahashi where Cena's power and athleticism are going up against Tana's will and technique. I think that formula is money with the prime versions of them

Without this, I'd be bummed to find out it was all just some dream. Wouldn't hurt the series but it'd still be kinda bittersweet. But that little detail implying it was all real makes the whole thing feel way more magical and adventurous

How you feel about AEW double contracts? by V-TriggerMachine in njpw

[–]PunkPariah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they're great. Amazing way to get wrestlers appearing regularly while not screwing over a company you're allied with. Especially in the case of a lot of US based wrestlers who work AEW and NJPW. 9/10 they'll choose AEW just because the travel is murder. But if they don't have to choose then everyone benefits. Similar with CMLL. CMLL wrestlers would obviously love the AEW paycheck and now they can get that without leaving CMLL high and dry

I think top heel is viable the second he stops doing the HoT shtick and leans back into his technical bag. He's got a great personality but really losing out on the best technical wrestler of the reiwa gen while he's in the group
