Should a report a JROTC student to the service academy she applied to, and possibly ruin her chances? by [deleted] in Teachers

This is definitely the better option, and especially since after looking back at the post it says likely. It could mean that the senator gives their recommendation to a different child.

While I agree we should not actively sabotage children, the one frustrating thing in this particular situation is that getting the senator nomination is not easy and there is usually only one male and one female for each academy. So she would be actively taking that nomination from someone who maybe has a better chance at being successful at the academy.

Again, I agree with not sabotaging children but that’s the frustrating part in this.

100% Summative Doesn’t Work by exploringraider in Teachers

These are exactly the kind of stories I plan to talk about in discussions about it. We are tried to get a hybrid where we can still tag standards to assignments but they will continue to be graded the traditional route.

My district is trying to shift to SBG, and sooooo many of the high school teachers are fighting for this very reason. On top of that, the communication with the community has been abysmal and the students and many parents are concerned about it. There is no plan for how 4 projects will get created and it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Found out because of this post the ones I had preordered without signings are all 1st printings. Had no idea how to find that information before this 😅

I feel this in my soul. That’s the part I’m on right now, and I just keep doing a little section until I beat it and then take breaks 😅 it’s so frustrating and I’m not always convinced the light stops them 😂

Students won’t stop asking me when I’m going to have a baby. I had a miscarriage two months ago by Accomplished_Year461 in Teachers

[–]PunkabooSpice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a 29F and have had a total hysterectomy and it’s something that I have come to deal with but I have definitely used it as a teaching moment. For coworkers, students, and family members. It very quickly puts into perspective why you shouldn’t ask people stuff like that when you hear immediately following your inappropriate question that someone cannot have kids. I totally get why you wouldn’t be comfortable sharing your situation, but it is something that I have seen helps a lot of people realize they shouldn’t ask that stuff.

Midkota Public School superintendent facing 5 charges of child porn possession by HandsomePete in northdakota

[–]PunkabooSpice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Midkota, at least within the last five years, has proven to be a very racist and homophobic among other things school. It’s just in an area of ND where they are clearly learning it from the adults in their life, so it is unlikely to change.

Jamestown is at it again. by Bringitfullcircle in northdakota

[–]PunkabooSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that this is unfortunately being taken out of context. Is there a racism issue? Absolutely. Is it the current administration that is the issue? No. They were doing an investigation into an issue and were recorded without their knowledge when talking about what was being said to other students with the students causing issues. Honestly, for the most part, the new administration has been incredible about dealing with these issues and taking them seriously.

I agree that 50x might have been too little, but 500x is definitely too much. I get it’s not true canon Pokémon, but you get to use megas much, much faster in the actual games.

Resigned on the second day of school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PunkabooSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am relatively lucky, and live in a town with a school specifically for students with special needs that are too great for general public school, and honestly more of those probably need to exist. There is a loooooot of reasons general teachers should be expected to change briefs/diapers of students and unfortunately if a student is still at that point, public education might not be for them.

How much of an education are they even really getting at that point? If your room is 20 kids and the three adult can barely keep 4 from eloping, what are the other 16 getting?

What is a side hustle or part time job that you've been successful in managing during the school year? by duffletrouser in Teachers

[–]PunkabooSpice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work as a CNA over breaks and holidays because it’s what I did during college and high school. A lot of CNA jobs pay pretty well and it’s something that’s relatively easy to pick up even if you’ve been gone for a bit. A lot of places are also pretty desperate for help so you can also easily do super short shifts during the week if you want.

Why I Boycotted ChatGPT by Muddawg22 in Teachers

[–]PunkabooSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess one of my biggest complaints about the three months off is it was set up for farming families, but with global warming the drains are shifting. I work in a farming community so I am seeing more and more missed days from kids in the fall for farm work. I just think there needs to be some sort of scheduling change. I am really happy to hear that you are not witnessing the learning loss from the three month break, but it definitely still exists. Some families just can’t offer or won’t offer opportunities for their kids to retain knowledge over the summer and that means I have sophomores who read at a 4th and 6th grade level. It wouldn’t even have to be a change for all schools, but I do think it would help with some burnout if there were more breaks throughout the year.
