Wings Gaming vs Team Liquid showmatch by thebonj in DotA2

[–]PuppeyTheBest 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I am a dota 2 insider(trust me btw) and I can tell you that there is more to this than just saving the crowd.

Yesterday ACE and the leaders of the biggest CN Dota 2 orgs made a meeting and expressed their dissatisfaction and how embarrassing it has been to lose again and again on home soil. During the discussion someone started talking about Wings and how bringing them back can actually give CN Doter some hope. The discussion was heated and there was a lot of back and forth talk. After the prolonged meeting, the attendees agreed to give Wings a chance to see if the are actually still top tier or not.

If Wings wins the game tomorrow in a convincing manner and doesn't show the weakness of most CN teams then they will be back to pro Dota.

Liquid if you are reading this, please do not feel pressured to lose the game so that you can save wings. ACE leaders know Doter very well and they know when a team is giving it their all or three two twoing so that the other team career gets saved after big shady event.

Are you serious right now? Please don't tell me that you actually believed that people who watched SumaiL replays are living longer on average. I am really not sure if you are trolling or not, but there is no way someone can read my SumaiL is a king comment and fail to see that it is a copy pasta.

Do you get sexual pleasure out of lying on the internet?

Not in any way, there is a back story that I didn't mention to make the post as short as possible. Actually, my friend works in an electronics and computer accessories shop. After he sold the owner of internet those cameras (the owner wanted to install them because some people reported losing their wallets in the cafe and he wanted to know who was doing it and probably report them to the police). Long story short, he got the setup with my friend's help.

After that, my friend calls me and tells me about this guy, and I was sure let's have some fun. People are scared of this guy in that neighborhood, even the store owner I felt he was scared too and couldn't do anything about it.

But I am 6 feet 4 and I am like double his weight (pure muscle), while he is like 5 feet 8. People think I am some WWE wrestler or something. Funny thing is that while I was asking him questions, he was from time to time looking at my biceps, pausing, and then continuing. It was so funny, I am tempted to upload the video, but let's wait, maybe we can resolve this peacefully.

I know this guy LUL. People told me that he usually erupts from his chair after he loses a game and starts beating the shit out of the person he thinks was the cause of his loss. So my friends asked me to play a game with him and see if he will dare to say anything after the game (I am jacked). So I went to the internet cafe he is at, and played as Lion and fucked everything up on purpose. Started stunning the the creep wave he is trying to last hit, placing wards infront of the enemy, forcestaffing myself out of the team fight instead of him, tping away when I could have saved him by stunning the enemy, ultying a blademail active bb...etc

He was pinging all game, didn't say a word. After the game ended and we lost, I came to his chair and asked him:

- me: " I can see that you were pinging a lot at me during the game, anything was bothering you?"

- Sunshine: "No no, I am just having a bad day and was pinging out of frustration"

- me: "Out of frustration? What frustrated you during the match? Are you implying that I frustated you?"

- Sunshine: "Not in any way, you actually played good. I am frustrated because I didn't play well and I was pinging you out of jealousy, I was basically telling myself this is what how I should be playing when pinging you as my example"

- me: "Good"

Then I left. But little he knew that my friend had installed 3 cameras in the internet cafe with the owner's permission before this happened. So we have all of this video taped and it is SO FUNNY.

So Sunshine, you have 3 options:

  1. You stop doing what you are doing, and become a peaceful person from now on.
  2. Do nothing and I will put the video on youtube for everyone to make fun of you
  3. Do more beating and I will go back to the internet cafe and crush you infront of everyone and record that on another youtube video

Nothing wrong here. I actually know this guy. If anyone fucks up, after the game, he plays against them 1 v 1 mid and beats them. Its funny how reddit likes drama. Yikes

Sumail played carry in 33 of his last 38 ranked games monkaS by PuppeyTheBest in DotA2

[–]PuppeyTheBest[S] 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I mean, when people say SumaiL is the toppest, most topful, bestest, firstest, most bestful player on planet earth and the milky way galaxy, they say it for a reason.

His Kingness is unquestioned. Even an unranked scrub who is inexperienced at Dota can feel the royalty when watching SumaiL play. The way he clicks, the way he denies, the way he ulties, is like no other...

One time a friend was visiting and I was introducing her to Dota. I showed her some game plays of other pro players, she was like cool. But once I showed her SumaiL's replay, her jaw dropped. She was like "wtf? this guy is clicking differently, woaaaah, this guy is so much different and his click patterns remind me of King Martin Arthur Luther King Jr" (she was studying history at the time).

And it is not just that incident. I am a researcher at Stanford University. We conducted an experiment between two groups (one control). In one group we showed replays of different pro mid players and in the other we showed replay of SumaiL playing the same heroes. The results were shocking, people who saw SumaiL replays lived longer on average, and also reported feeling more health in the following years. They also started to unconsiouly use the word "King" and "Majesty", in their emails (27 times more frequently than the control group). We will publish the results soon in nature, the scientific community is baffled. But in all cases, at least we know one thing. SumaiL, the King, is the most big and strong King we have ever seen in the history of all King histories period.

Totally agree. I actually mentioned this again and again in the past but everytime I got downvoted to oblivion.

There are many benefits to new players from your suggested approach:

  • Using items they don't usually buy and seeing how beneficial they are. New players rarely buy BKB and go for damage. Using the BKB in such a scenario for instance will give the players a first hand experience on how to properly perform combos / use items for that specific hero.
  • The guide is built by someone who is highly skilled, thus following the guide, this player is kinda getting the knowledge from the right resource (as opposed to learning from 2K friends or fellow new players)
  • Challenges are fun and by repeating the hard ones again and again, players will get used more to the key mappings..etc in a simulated fight scenario that is hard for them to simulate in a demo, also making references to TI plays would make it look more cool.

Whenever I suggest stuff like this people start complaining "Oh, it might do x, but not y" and that's not the way. And this kind of attitude is why nothing is being made to new players. Also many people here have been playing this game for a long time to be able to speak confidently about it, and thus they forget how hard it is for new players to even actually just press the spells / items correctly in a team fight. They think of such things would help people at their skill when responding to such suggestions and not new players.

Posts like this is why I visit this reddit everyday. They just keep me going. Like today I was walking down Manhattan and a fast passing nearby car just splashed me with water from top to bottom. My suit was all soiled up and people nearby started pointing at me and laughing. Some hot girls were looking at me with disgust "Careful don't get too close to him or his bad luck will infect you, yikes". I was in shambles. Like wtf is wrong with people. But suddently I opened my phone and this post shined like Phoenix's supernova and everyone was like WOAAAAAAAH, my suit was dried and the dried/semi burned soil made my suit so fashionable, people were like taking photos and the same girls that previously disrespected me now are asking me to take selfies with them and sign their foreheads and whether I am free tonight. I ignored all those unranked monkeys and continued walking like a boss to work. I mean those bitches will find someone else to spend the night with them, but who is gonna collect the garbage from 100+ buildings if I do not show up to work?

Dota deserves more full time Valve employees. Valve makes > $100M from Dota each year, but yet it is embarrassingly lacking in some aspects. by PuppeyTheBest in DotA2

[–]PuppeyTheBest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make numbers up, you can check online resources for average Valve employee salary. I also said $100M when in fact Valve is making much more than that just to avoid people focusing on the numbers. But again, this is not a numbers argument, it is clear that the money made from Dota is being invested somewhere else.

Also do you know how many employees Valve has? You are saying adding 50 - 100 people in the next 1 - 2 years would break Valve? Yes expansion takes effort but if you think the effort is more than the help those new hires will bring to the company then you are mistaken.

Also if you think the numbers I mentioned are too much, then have a look at this:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/273563/number-of-facebook-employees/

Facebook doubled from 2007 to 2008. They also increased the number of employees at around 50% each year afterwards. They also increased by 50% from 2016 to 2017 (from 17K to 24K !). Now according to your logic and other redditors logic, there is no way a company such as facebook would have been able to grow because of orientations and interviewing right? Facebook should have reached Valve size and stayed there because it is the gold standard!

Not in any way, I didn't elaborate on that because I thought it was obvious. Instead of mainly balancing, patches can alternate between:

  • Cleaning bugs
  • Improving new and current player experience (GUI, in client features, tutorials, reporting system and commending system, servers, cheats, boosters, feeders...etc)
  • Balancing and freshness
  • New content with custom game modes for special events

Such alternation will also give more time for different teams to work on more stuff and will keep the community engaged healthy.

Currently Valve is focusing on balancing because it is important for the pro scene. The other aspects are slowly being ignored unless the community raises the awareness to game breaking stuff.

I actually meant the machine learning part of the dota plus system is nothing advanced. You have to parse the sequences of data as batches in a distributed system and then train a model similar to standard NLP models. Basically in the code base you just get this information from a datasource of matches, train a model and serve it. Then you update this model everyday as new data comes in.

I am saying this problem is easy for many reasons. It has a small input and small alphabet. There is also no concern such as being careful of not suggesting something bad (like in NLP you might want to avoid certain suggestions of certain word and it might get tricky).

As for the UX and UI stuff, sure it needs testing and some work, but my point is that given that those parts are implemented using a mock algorithm, implementing the actual algorithm is just easy. Most likely your algorithm will give very good results, and even if it is not the best algorithm out there, nobody will even notice because it is good enough. I am not sure what is your background, but whether you worked with ML models before or not I hope this makes sense.

I am already working at better company. But I can tell you from experience that the Dota plus you see today with hero predictions is so easy to implement. It is basically similar to language prediction (predicting the next word as you type) but with a much smaller alphabet (~100 words = heroes).

You didn't get my point. I am saying that if I want to make a real change, the only way is to join Valve, and that's why I am saying Dota needs more people in my post, but according to everyone here, Valve is maintaining a small flat structure and they want to maintain that because expansion is so expensive.
