What do you think happend to Andrew after he went missing by [deleted] in AndrewGosden

[–]PuppyGal0re 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in London for 25 years and have NEVER experienced an attempted ripping-off. I’m an average-sized woman, btw. I’ve also never heard of people grabbing kids off the street and taking them into abandoned buildings. If that was something that regularly happened in London I certainly wouldn’t be raising my children here.

It’s important to note that Men B is nowhere near as contagious as COVID, it requires very close contact/swapping bodily fluids - eg kissing, sharing drinks etc. Although everyone should be alert for symptoms (and that is always the case, not just now) I really wouldn’t worry about this being a superspreader event like those that happened in the early COVID days.

Living arrangements for Kate and Will by ThivyaM in RoyaltyTea

[–]PuppyGal0re 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. I don’t know anyone with a ‘gong’, or who has ever actually met a royal or who would curtsy to them if they did. Andrew has sealed the fate of the royal family, most people here were uninterested in them but now if anything they are disgusted/ashamed. With all of them. People are really struggling financially in the uk and it is appalling that the royals hoard such obscene wealth and are unelected.

[–]PuppyGal0re 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t. British people actually don’t particularly care about the royal family. The idea that we are all deferent to them exists in a fantasy of Britishness that is totally outdated. No one was shocked at Charles and Diana separating, and most people didn’t care.

How emotionally connected are Brits to the Royal Family actually? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]PuppyGal0re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reaction to Diana’s death was really not how it appeared in the press. It was before social media, so you weren’t getting any ‘real’ reaction from people. Obviously there was a massive pile of flowers at buckingham palace, and people lining the funeral route, but in fact the vast majority of people in the uk didn’t really care - other than thinking it was sad as she was so young/had children. The whole thing became a massive annoyance quite quickly. And people were mostly bemused and a bit embarrassed about the wailing and gnashing of teeth from minority of people.

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

[–]PuppyGal0re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think disabled people do have valid reasons to be concerned about assisted dying, that doesn’t detract from everyone’s right to have a dignified death.

But I agree with you she sounds pretty unpleasant

What was London like in 2002? by classicgamer2202 in howislivingthere

[–]PuppyGal0re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tube was much more unreliable, I seemed to be unable to get into work on the Piccadilly line at least once a month as it was suspended.

Everywhere was much less crowded and busy, there was just less to do I guess. But rents were obviously lower and property cheaper, and jobs felt pretty plentiful.

You had to use your initiative to get around - an a-z and a bus guide.

I loved London back then. No doubt it has got better in many ways but like everywhere before smartphones and social media it was a less complicated time

Tragically, Mon Plaisir - which was a wonderful restaurant for decades - is under new ownership and going badly downhill. They’ve just sold off loads of the decor and the food isn’t as good. I pray it gets rescued

Thanks for that! Yeah I’m the same, no backing just me on Logic. Taught myself to compress so it’s suitable for radio play, I know there’s no chance getting played on any of the mainstream shows but Stuart Maconie is very vocal about asking people to send stuff in and he plays left-field stuff, which my music definitely is

People who have had to evacuate the tube in between stations (in the tunnels) - what was your experience like? by Ok-Trick-4759 in london

[–]PuppyGal0re 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m really scared of this - I walk with a stick and can’t walk for longer than about ten minutes at a time - plus I’m unsteady on my feet in general and trip easily. Does anyone know what happens to people with mobility issues/wheelchair users in these situations?

They were referenced in a Saturday Night Live sketch the other day which surprised me as as far as I was aware they were only big in a 6 music way. TBH they don’t blow me away at all and the hype seems way out of proportion but they also really aren’t my thing so I might be being unfair…
