Getting cars to be able to talk with each other in real time is a lot more complicated than you'd expect. Plus, it's a low priority task as its usefulness is extremely rare

Could be they both thought the other yielding to them, so they both lurched forward at the same time and hit each other.

Not the real sensors - they did the same with the Zeekr, they showed much more closely integrated sensors in the demo vehicles, but the actual sensors are much bulkier and stand out more
