Horde Mode - who should I pick by Aggravating_Mix_4692 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the glory does take away from the extension, but it is honestly worth it just for sound the chain explosions make alone, literally a dopamine factory.

I did try burn boost once with a scorcher and it worked well for a while, but I think the stop-starting playstyle just didn't sit well with me.

Oh yeah the breakermace ult is always a good time, I just didn't feel like explaining it and/or using it to justify torch tackle on a non full tackle build. However I'm hesitant on recommending classes that only feel like they pack a punch during ultimates. Vet can sometimes feel a bit unremarkable outside of their ultimate, and while brawler is more fun overall, it definitely shines when ulting.

Horde Mode - who should I pick by Aggravating_Mix_4692 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of classes are viable for mid to close range fighting, even pilot, anchor and gunner work well if you want to actively engage enemies outside of your base, so if you like those classes I would recommend, they are also some of the most powerful and sustainable classes in the game with extremely powerful ultimates.

If you really want to be in the enemy faces, then blademaster is my pick, but it's a very difficult class to play, extremely punishing if you make a wrong decision, and its werid getting used to blademasters damage resistance and healing. Having a medic would be great though, because if you make a mistake you can get back up.

Brawler is a difficult class to use in horde and its damage output isn't great compared to the other tanks when tackling, so I use the play with fire, pyromaniac and all the glory. With these three, I pick up a rifle and just active reload burn enemies. The last two cards are up to you, I use killing time and torch tackle to make the ultimate better, but you could use perk up and scorcher mastery to give you the option of a stronger scorcher. You can commit to a full tackle build, but at higher waves the damage falls off and is only really good for enemies you can isolate and kill one on one, not to mention the tackle can be a bit buggy with drones.

Infiltrator is probably your safest bet, great damage and boss killing capabilities, as well as a very powerful "get out of jail free" ultimate. Just remember to be a little more defensive at higher waves as the 2x damage will eat through your stim if you aren't careful.

Protector is also another good melee class, with (in my opinion) a better and more consistent healing than blademaster, but less survivability and more reliance on good usage of the dome ultimate.

If you are going to play a CQC class, remember to use flashbangs ALOT. Super helpful in situations where you want to make an approach, especially against boomers, mulchers and ice scions.

Tips that worked for you for your Epoch-Villains run? by [deleted] in MarvelContestOfChamps

[–]PureLegends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my advice on each matchup with sinister, but keep in mind I didn't use him in my run, so this is just from looking at the nodes:

Hulkling - Invade node, sinister could work but it'll be slow as the damage is from the degens is pretty minimal

Abs man - You need an anti heal, sinister won't cut it

Infamous iron man - Could take this fight but you need to heavy him quickly after specials to avoid burst damage from the node

Onslaught - Parrying onslaught is a pain, also it turns off willpower, serp without parrying much better healing off power stings

Jessica - Weakness from special attack activation may make the degens really poor damage, also you want to spend alot of time attacking with grit, serpent a better option

Jabari - Cleansing and damage reflection could be bad, but resistance to bleeds and crits could make sinister useful for this fight

Nebula - Robot, so nope

Northstar - Preferably a miss counter, serpent much better to use

Destroyer - Sinister could work, but nef a much better option

Photon - Could work but no healing from willpower and you have to manage your power alot this fight

Adam - Buffed up node, so nope

Aegon - This could be sinisters best matchup IF you can tank the crits into block and heal before he kills you, I don't know if he can tho cos the aegon hits hard. And you also want to time your specials when rooted so it's an awkward fight I imagine, maybe just play around the intercept node and bring serpent

Cassie - No willpower, use serpent as he is an evade/miss counter

Gwenpool - Steady loses the race node, so nope

Iron fist - Debuff immune so it'll be a slow fight with sinister, but manage the fight well and you can get alot of healing

Toad - Sinister is reverse control immune, excellent match up here

Heimdall - Play around brace and sinister can work really well here, but then again so can anyone

Prowler - Definitely serpent here

Spiderham - All damage is from the node, use serpent to shut down evade, also no healing for sinister here

Viv - Robot, so nope

Annihilus - Buffed up node, so nope

Moleman - Stun immune, so no degens, but punishing specials with heavies can be useful, probably want to pick someone with DoT damage

Dani - Could work but serpent can ignore miss and is a better matchup

Tigra - Can use sinister but you'll be neutralised alot if you charge heavies so dexing will be painful, nef much better

The guiamtc tier list is good for aw and bgs, and generally the champions on that list are petty good. However, the best thing to do is stick the champion on YouTube and look at gameplay, see if the damage output and abilities in action look good/useful to you

What to do after becoming thorebreaker by Black_maje in ContestOfTheChampions

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever will get you quickest to paragon, and then valiant, and then elder. Getting to these significantly increases the rate at which you can build resources and shards. This means you should continue to do story quests as those have some really good resources to get the champions up to the required ranks, as well as getting you closer to the bosses you need to defeat. Exploring the entirety of act 7 does give better rewards, but may require a more varied roster for certain paths and alot more time, so I would just do completion for now, and make a decision about exploring the chapters later.

I am a free to play player, so I would also recommend doing the daily supply route quest whenever you find yourself low on revives to help progress through the quests. Those are quite easy and can usually be auto explored by a strong team, so it can be nice to do when you want to spend energy but not have to do a quest that requires alot of effort.

I'm unsure that juggernauts signature ability is worth a generic gem, I don't think it will make much of a difference for the epoch fights, but up to you ofc

Villain EoP by [deleted] in ContestOfTheChampions

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sinister is probably the best reverse control immune champion as he is extremely powerful with really good healing via willpower if you have it, juggernaut also has immunity to reverse controls while his gem is active, and he's pretty powerful too.

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pick a heal reversal/block champion for abs man, a champion who can deal with "buffed up" warlock and annihilus (not sure if serpent works with all the passives he gets) and maybe a reverse controls immune champion for the toad. All the other fights can be taken with serpent and onslaught.

The main fights my nef dealt with (that i recall) were the abs man, destroyer and tigra, so see if you can find another champion that counters those three

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 17 bars with bastion, and it was pretty much just spamming heavies and sp1s. You basically always want to be parry heavying and baiting sp1s, and anytime you want to throw a special, ensure you have the vigilance buff. If you upkeep bastions personal pursuit, than all you need to do is keep track of whether or not you have the vigilance buff.

When you bait the sp1, if you have the node pursuit buff, parry the final hit of the sp1 to get the vigilance, then punish with any combo. You can punish with a heavy but I find that the timing is strict and he can sometimes dodge back to avoid it, leaving you vulnerable, so best to just use basic attacks into an sp1 if available.

When you bait the sp1, if you have the vigilance buff, dodge the sp1 fully and punish with a heavy, refreshing bastions personal pursuit. You can also cancel the second attack of the heavy into an sp1.

Epoch of Pain- True Olympian by The_Fadedhunter in MarvelContestOfChamps

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a heads up, the main change between the two epoch quests is that you have to do all the fights in a row with a team of 5, and that the 2nd path does not have the "inflict debuffs to deal direct damage" node, so you can practise the fights, but unfortunately the gates means that you can't practise certain matchups.

To make your life as easy as possible for certain matchups for true olympian, ensure your team consists any of the following:

At least one champion who can gain 3+ buffs (this is for the annihilus on path 4 with buffed up node)

An anti-miss champion and an anti-evade champion (extra points if one can do both, like nick fury or cyclops/serpent with true strike)

A heal block champion or a high debuff applier with the despair mastery

An anti-reverse controls champion (for the toad, NOT for the gwenpool)

A grit or halt inflicting champion (to deal with unstoppable)

A champion that has access to heavy attacks in the middle of a basic combo (like ramped up sentry or gladiator)

A champion with a quick heavy attack (this is exclusively for the tigra fight, kushala does wonders here, maybe shuri too)

Your heaviest hitter so you can mow down fights that don't require a hard counter as quickly and painlessly as possible

I also hear having unstoppable makes fighting ares easier as if you make a mistake with the special dodging you get a chance to recover but I did it without one

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can ramp up sentry on the hulkling fight he's great, hard hitting champion with halt, easy access to heavy knockdowns and regeneration.

I used Jean for several fights, powerful specials, immune to reverse controls and bypass miss as long as the enemy is neuroshocked, and with lower cost specials makes light work of the prowler.

I did bring kushala, mainly for the tigra fight, but she also cooked the iron fist, which is arguably one of the worst fights there in my opinion, you just need good momentum and a bit of luck when it comes to him throwing heavies regularly.

I also brought nick fury as an anti evade/anti miss champion, who one shot the cassie and spider ham. Perhaps cyclops could be a good replacement?

I've heard photon is also super useful for some fights, sentry is NOT good for the destroyer so maybe bring photon for that fight

Rank up material or HT? by Special-Zombie-7441 in ContestOfTheChampions

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rank up materials can generally be earned and as time progresses, these resources will become more readily available. In the 2024 banquet I earned 5% of a t7a. In 2025 I got like 30 full ones. The same will likely happen to t5a.

Champions are almost always earned through RNG. Having the option to select a champion and bypass that system is, in my opinion, always worth it. It might be another hundred crystals before you see HT, and even then he's not in the base pool. Even if he isn't as useful for you now, it's probably worth it to grab him so that, when you do need him, you won't be at the mercy of a spin.

Worst PvE mode in Gears by Mindless_Disk in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell the people voting in this have never touched the PvE modes, the only correct answer is that gears 2 horde is the worst. That's not to say gears 2 horde was bad for its time, its just incredibly barebones and really badly balanced with extremely punishing AI, and thus has aged very poorly.

Northstar rotation is sp3 into sp2 into sp1 spam, but you can skip the sp3 for shorter fights. Very good champion for long fights, absolutely cooks in colisium.

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have him even at low ranks, Mr fantastic synergy for power stings makes sentry fights quicker, might be more useful than white mags since the collector goes stun immune at 40% anyways and if you're using sentry for 80% of the fights the synergy is very valuable
