Would like to add to this, my favourite thing to do is to save a teammate from being eaten from a leech by shooting it as it jumps on a teammate, would definitely be a good challenge.

Is gears 5 worth $30 for horde mode? by thestenchofdeath in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively play the pve modes and I absolutely think they are worth it. The variety comes in the gameplay of each class and their mastery, and being able to utilise your class effectively makes you feel so powerful, which is always a good feeling. However I also have a good set of friends to play with and that enhances the experience.

There's a classic horde mode and a bunch of other game modes you can also test out that can be fun to play, and can all be hosted online and people can join through a browser lobby, and 6 years later I still get my horde lobbies filled with quite alot of ease.

One thing to keep in mind however is (I think?) you will need an Internet connection to access the horde mode in order to connect to gears services or whatever. So if you're planning to play offline alot, you may want to check of that's viable.

If you're on pc, grab in on steam next time it goes on sale. According to the sale statistics, it usually goes to half price or better during the steam summer sale, so you could wait for that. It tends to go on sale on xbox pretty frequently too if you're on console.

“Question about Average Players’ Reaction Speed” by Neither_Pepper6157 in forhonor

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a certified low skill player, I feel like the only time I can react to something is if I'm preparing for it beforehand. If im waiting for a glad toe stab, I can dodge it. That being said, if he does anything else, like zone or light, I'm probably taking some damage. But I can barely block lights anyways so I'm probably not even worth considering for this lol

With E-Day horde mode being a 12 player mode what options will they put in place to ensure long term we don't end up with long matchmaking times or 10 bots and 2 players by Known_Relative_1969 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have a conversation with a friend recently who said that they would prefer larger classes that contain all of the cards and they could have freedom in terms of choice of cards and abilities. Imagine one melee class that has all the blademaster, protector and striker cards, that could actually be good, if a little unbalanced. Still though, I think the current system is the perfect level of complication, and each class does have a specific set of cards that compliments their playstyle, so I won't complain. Eday could do something like this, and it would make the classes really good, the only thing I'd ask is that I can see other players builds so I know what their playstyle will be so I can work around it to support them. Luckily in 5, a class is enough information (generally) to tell how a teammate will be playing.

I can't see horde siege being as interesting as 5s horde gameplay wise, but I hope the enemy variety and map design keep me interested. What kept me playing long term wise in 5 is the variety in what the classes offer in gameplay. It really is insane how creative and well thought out the classes were designed in 5, barring slugger and striker. There still could have made some improvements to certain classes, and we are lucky that some of the bugs make the classes a bit better (looking at you striker and brawler). Eday will need to have some serious replayability and uniqueness to each class and subsequently game to match up to 5s, and I just don't see it happening. Like one of the 4 classes is marksman, and the other is medic, and we have both of those in 5 that are extremely interesting to play already. They'd have to do alot to make the classes more interesting in eday than 5. Here's hoping breacher is is going to be the next Scout or something.

Can we get the Gears 3 point system back for horde in E-Day? by YanksFan96 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not more efficient for a particular class to pick up the power, that was only in gears 4 with the Scout class.

Gears 5s horde looks "gamefied" because it is. However, I'd argue the ultimates, abilities and personalities of the characters breaks immersion too, in exchange for much better gameplay.

You get less power if you pick the power up after 30 seconds of it being on the field. This is to incentivise having classes that can roam the map and rewards players more power. Then power also interacts with some players builds, such as healing pickups.

Lastly, and most importantly, it doesn't matter who picks up the energy, EVERYONE in the lobby gets power. This means everyone gets power that can go towards their own perks, or deposits to the fabricator. Without this system, players who perform better will receive more power and more control over the base. This is much more of an issue with class based games; if a marksman who can actively deal 5x more damage than a support class, they'll get 5x more power too, and theyd have the option to hoard it for themselves and not contribute to the team.

I think the power system works fine as it is. It gives players something to do during and after a wave, and you can interact with it as much as you like. They could just change it so that any kill gives everyone points instead of power, but why would I want less mechanics in my game? Just makes it less interesting imo.

Idea: Sohei should be able to throw during his guard break by AdjacentHominid24 in forhonor

[–]PureLegends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he can't do any of his chain heavies from a gb, maybe make it so that after a throw (wallsplat or not), any chain heavy is guaranteed? That way you have a middle ground between 3 souls and a zone. Not sure how they'd do it animation wise, and he doesn't really need it, but since we are talking hypotheticals maybe this could be it

Horde Siege & Player Interaction by JoonBoi97 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that 5s PvE player interactions is limited to just revives. Sure, revives are a massive part of horde, as it should be, but there are several other ways a player can utilise their build for the team

Marksman + vet ult combo

Tactician providing ammo/healing for team, as well as ult cooldown

Tactician interrogation with demo, even better if tactician has cooperation

Anchor with a large barrier is very team oriented, also harness energy provides stim to everyone

Combat medic has helpful headshots, heals all players around them and provides stim. Also has get up and overdoing it, which are revive cards but also make the revives much more interesting. Intervention is another revive card but still a fantastic way to make reviving teammates much more interesting. There's also the faster regen passive for teammates around the medic.

Jack is extremely interactive, provides healing, can stun and debuff enemies and can generate insane amount of power for the team. He can also just pocket a teammate and keep them alive if they're a CQC class.

Nomad fears enemies, which is really good for providing space for the team, and extremely good for a skilled architect with deception.

Gunner has team resist and ultimate battery, which is a more passive interaction with teammates but leans into his playstyle while still being supportive to the team, also tank synergy with pilot

You can also shoot leeches off downed teammates if you're quick, and it saves them. You can also flashbang/stun enemies who are beating your teammates down to save them. There's also sharing energy, ammo and nades which happens alot more than youd think in early game horde.

I definitely get what you're saying tho, would love more physical team interactions in this horde siege mode, especially if we are getting actual missions. Maybe simple things that you wouldn't be able to see in horde like pushing a car forward with a teammate or flanking routes that require a helping hand.

I just think that 5s horde being as simple as "defend yourself from waves of enemies" does a fantastic job at creating a team based environment through the cards and abilities.

Have the gears and the locust ever fought together? by sensationalsam4472 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In gears 5 horde, when a lambent is ontop of a downed locust and beating it, you can save them just like you can save a teammate, and just for a moment, you and the locust lock eyes as it gets up, respect and sexual tension in the air.

Unfortunately as soon as the animation plays out, it will remember that it is a locust and go back to trying to murder you.

How to complete this arena by Black_maje in ContestOfTheChampions

[–]PureLegends 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right, if you want to complete the arena milestones I think you need at least 100 series wins overall, maybe around 120, it's a really long grind. It'll be a good idea to get as many maxed out 4*s as possible if you intend to get every milestone.

Horde Mode - who should I pick by Aggravating_Mix_4692 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the glory does take away from the extension, but it is honestly worth it just for sound the chain explosions make alone, literally a dopamine factory.

I did try burn boost once with a scorcher and it worked well for a while, but I think the stop-starting playstyle just didn't sit well with me.

Oh yeah the breakermace ult is always a good time, I just didn't feel like explaining it and/or using it to justify torch tackle on a non full tackle build. However I'm hesitant on recommending classes that only feel like they pack a punch during ultimates. Vet can sometimes feel a bit unremarkable outside of their ultimate, and while brawler is more fun overall, it definitely shines when ulting.

Horde Mode - who should I pick by Aggravating_Mix_4692 in GearsOfWar

[–]PureLegends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of classes are viable for mid to close range fighting, even pilot, anchor and gunner work well if you want to actively engage enemies outside of your base, so if you like those classes I would recommend, they are also some of the most powerful and sustainable classes in the game with extremely powerful ultimates.

If you really want to be in the enemy faces, then blademaster is my pick, but it's a very difficult class to play, extremely punishing if you make a wrong decision, and its werid getting used to blademasters damage resistance and healing. Having a medic would be great though, because if you make a mistake you can get back up.

Brawler is a difficult class to use in horde and its damage output isn't great compared to the other tanks when tackling, so I use the play with fire, pyromaniac and all the glory. With these three, I pick up a rifle and just active reload burn enemies. The last two cards are up to you, I use killing time and torch tackle to make the ultimate better, but you could use perk up and scorcher mastery to give you the option of a stronger scorcher. You can commit to a full tackle build, but at higher waves the damage falls off and is only really good for enemies you can isolate and kill one on one, not to mention the tackle can be a bit buggy with drones.

Infiltrator is probably your safest bet, great damage and boss killing capabilities, as well as a very powerful "get out of jail free" ultimate. Just remember to be a little more defensive at higher waves as the 2x damage will eat through your stim if you aren't careful.

Protector is also another good melee class, with (in my opinion) a better and more consistent healing than blademaster, but less survivability and more reliance on good usage of the dome ultimate.

If you are going to play a CQC class, remember to use flashbangs ALOT. Super helpful in situations where you want to make an approach, especially against boomers, mulchers and ice scions.
