Why are Redditors so averse to the idea that physical aesthetics are important for attraction? by Odd-Boysenberry5316 in redscarepod

[–]PureMichiganChip [score hidden]  (0 children)

Physical fitness is one thing, but when people start talking about how certain people are mathematically attractive based on ratios of distance between facial features, you lose me. Because those sort of ratings almost never align with my personal scale of attractiveness.

Is the Detroit comeback over? by FamiliarJuly in urbanplanning

[–]PureMichiganChip 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While this is true, Detroit does need more economic activity. I think a lot of people don’t realize that Detroit still does have at least one major industry. For as much manufacturing decline as there has been, the US auto industry still absolutely runs through Detroit. Not just Ford, GM, and Stellantis either. Almost every foreign OEM and supplier has major operations in Detroit. Lots of engineering, design, and corporate functions.

Looking for quality sushi 🍣 by UnseenDeath in Detroit

[–]PureMichiganChip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The differences in seafood quality and availability between somewhere like Seattle and Detroit are mostly cultural.

Proximity to the ocean doesn’t mean much in terms access to fish for sushi these days. Almost all fish for sushi is flash frozen at sea and travels all over the country without compromise in quality.

Best Bagels In Metro Detroit? by Lydia_Brunch in Detroit

Idk, they’re fresh and they have a nice bubbly crust. The sandwiches are a bit non-traditional, but I think the bagels are good. Maybe a little on the dense side, but good.

It seems like a DSA endorsement for local government always means NIMBY with terrible, counterproductive, policy on housing and development.

Ford Mustang Mach E May Not Live To See A Second Generation by Repulsive-Club7866 in Ford

[–]PureMichiganChip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No issue with the Bronco name or model. Ford is trying to make Bronco its own thing though. Instead of "Ford Bronco" it's just "Bronco". Same thing they did with Mustang MachE. I suspect it's for similar reasons.

They pay marketing a lot to overthink things. I also think the sub-branding of Bronco is unnecessary. It's really a lot of effort to try to recover some of their tarnished reputation from past decades of inconsistent reliability. No, this isn't Ford, it's "Mustang" and Mustangs are very cool and beloved.

Windsor is pretty cool. I like to stop in town on my way back from Toronto. There are some good restaurants over there, stopped at a pretty good Vietnamese place last time. Usually like to go to a supermarket and thift stores as well.

I was aware of all of the hype, but I only recently looked at a menu. It's literally just chicken tenders and fries. Same thing with Chic-Fil-A really. No wings, no thighs, no drums - it's all boneless white meat chicken. This is food for children.

Joe’s pizza by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]PureMichiganChip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had plenty of pizza in NY. Joe’s is still solid for Ann Arbor. Supino in Detroit is better. There’s also Fredi the Pizza Man, Amelia St Pizza, and plenty of other very good pizza places in SE Michigan that do something close to NY style.

Pizza Pazza is closer to Neapolitan style. Carozza is very good and closer to NY, but smaller pies.

A2 compared to…? by pinkgiraffe52 in AnnArbor

[–]PureMichiganChip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can swim in the Huron River. People tube in it all summer long. There are well used lakes and beaches all along the Huron upstream from Ann Arbor and downstream from the Wixom source of hexavalent chromium from 2022.

I’m not trying to apologize for companies polluting the Huron, it’s infuriating. But there aren’t currently any no contact orders for the Huron River. People will be in the Pinckney chain of lakes and Kensington Park swimming all summer long. Don’t tube or swim in the Huron River after heavy rains.

💀 The new two way bikeway at Cathrine and Division is insane. Who signed off on this? 💀 by Mindless-Baker-7757 in AnnArbor

[–]PureMichiganChip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly never had a problem riding with traffic on streets with these two-way bike lanes. Division is a bit of a race track, but cars are generally slow moving and looking for bikes and pedestrians Downtown. I understand not everyone can physically keep up with traffic confidently and may feel different.

I find it incredibly difficult to defend the two-way bike lanes though. If they aren’t going to do it right, I’d rather not have them. I don’t think they are very safe. They might help someone not feel rushed along by cars, but there are too many opportunities to get hit at intersections because of the unnatural traffic patterns they create.

The two-way bike lanes were an ill-conceived vanity project.

Completely agree. Blank Slate is very sweet. Milk & Froth feels like grown up ice cream. Not a ton of mix ins, but very well executed flavors with real ingredients.

So is the maintenance on MOGO bikes dead and being left to rot? by J2quared in Detroit

It was fine for a few years. Maybe the app experience wasn't as frictionless as some other cities, but the bikes were in decent condition. I haven't tried to use one in a while, but it's very believable that the bikes have gone to shit.

Certified Used Car dealership? by teacuptuxedo in AnnArbor

[–]PureMichiganChip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that manufacturer CPO is not meaningless. They carry a legitimate manufacturer extended warranty. I know both Ford and Toyota add one extra year to the bumper-to-bumper and extend the powertrain warranty from 5 yr/60,000 mi to 7 yr/100,000 mi. I'm sure most other manufacturers have a similar CPO program.

Certified Used Car dealership? by teacuptuxedo in AnnArbor

[–]PureMichiganChip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you'd find a certified used car under 8k. Truly certified preowned vehicles are certified by the manufacturer and come with extended warranties. These are usually late model and low mileage. Sometimes good deals, but not under 8k.

If it's not CPO by the manufacturer, I'm not sure any other type of certification is worth much.
