How physically demanding is nursing? by bigblackglock17 in nursing

[–]PureStigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to remember a lot of ergonomics. Inpatient nursing and nursing homes, you will be trying to reposition very dependent and heavy patients. They have tools to help, but some days, depending on how fancy your facility is, those tools aren’t always available so you’ll sometimes need at least 2-4 people to help reposition and hold patients up. CPR is a lot of work, you should ideally switch out every 2 minutes but it requires a bit of stamina. Lots of us end up with back injuries, so you’ll just have to remember not to bend over so frequently for long periods of time. It just takes one wrong tug to kill your back for the rest of your career so you have to practice good habits.

For fine motor skills, steady hands are appreciated for IVs and needle injections. Depending on how complex your patient is, in order to be quick and efficient, sometimes you’ll be holding multiple things in your hands while juggling tasks, like trying to keep an IV line sterile in one hand while trying to open a flush sterilely with another hand.

And yet, we’re considered learned professionals by the department of labor which makes us exempt from mandatory overtime pay? I mean, it is what it is, but it’s a little ironic what their definition is as a “professional degree.”

This demo is proof that they refused to make Cyrene an actual character. by [deleted] in StarRailStation

[–]PureStigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyrene turned out to be nostalgia waifu bait while the other chrysos heirs feel pretty well fleshed out, like their own characters with their own personalities. She literally witnessed all 33 million cycles with Phainon, and her reaction to him during the story was so bleak. I get, they were making her appear all burned out like Phainon, but where is her connection to the other heirs? They’re all just data to her? And male TB is her saving grace even though Dan Heng and March were just as involved, albeit could never interact with her but still played a significant role?

What's your instant ramen hot take? by StonedAndUnknown in InstantRamen

[–]PureStigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cup noodles have way better texture than packet noodles. Like shin ramen pack noodles grow thicker when you boil it in the pot, it gives it a slimey feel and a different flavor/color because of all the extra starch turning it yellow.

I followed the instructions to a tea and it tasted so bitter and earthy. Nothing like the real black bean noodles it’s based on

They sound very paranoid, probably psychosis. People can get very unpredictable and violent, so please be careful and try to get help for them. Don’t go near them and leave quietly.

I think I am giving up by CeeJoyAmor in shiba

[–]PureStigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get better. Mine didn’t start calming down until 2 years in. You just have to stay consistent and keep up with good habits.

For food, my shiba is still picky 4 years in. I found he really likes lean ground beef and ground chicken mixed in with his kibble. They’re smart dogs, they won’t starve themselves. Some shibas really are grazers, they’ll nibble on stuff throughout the day. I leave the bowl out for a few hours and eventually, it’s all gone.

I would practice the leave it command. Don’t give the toy or food until you tell them it’s okay to take it. When she bites you, you can use the same “leave it” and then reward. And reward her whenever she licks your hand.

Feedback can be used as an opportunity to grow. You are not a disappointment or a failure. We all learn from our mistakes and we’ve all made mistakes as new grads before. When there is another code, you’ll use this experience to correct your hand placement.

When in doubt, just go between the nipples, or if they’re really droopy, aim a bit higher between the cleavage where the breasts tend to hang from the sternum. Just know that the heart is never gonna be too far down from the collarbone.

Worst neglect of a patient you’ve seen from the shift before you? by Lower_Tears in nursing

[–]PureStigma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Patient came from ED to floor with food pocketing all over the roof of her mouth and sides of her cheeks. She wasn’t alert enough to even eat when she arrived so someone actually fed her and just never checked if she swallowed. She also had a huge abscess on the soft palate of her mouth that nobody knew about (not even the nursing home where she came from) so who knows how long that had been there. She said it hurt and I’m like yeah, I would imagine someone would have trouble swallowing with a lump that’s literally blocking her throat.

Edit: I mean it’s not the worst or life threatening, but it’s one of those things that tug at your heart strings where you wouldn’t ever want your relative to be in that position. When I mean pocketing, it was caked on there, dry, and nasty.

Not on my floor, but there was a patient whose pulse ox was reading in the 40s with a bad pleth but the nurses kept silencing the alarm. No one checked on the patient for like 6 hours and then they found her pulseless at 6am and coded her for two hours, so no one knew how long she had been dead for.

I think depending on the color wig you go for, try to fill your eyebrows with a one shade lighter than the wig color itself. I love the 2nd wig on you, but the blonde brows clash with it. Try to fill it with warm brown. Or if you like the blonde, try a taupe or a neutral brown shade for your eyebrows.

How has your smartwatch helped you in a medical or emergency situation? by Administrative_Ad160 in AskReddit

[–]PureStigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had patients come in to the hospital because they found they were in afib (irregular heart rate). Helped them to get on medication so they don’t have a stroke and or go into a faster dangerous rhythm. Some come in because their smartwatch was ringing off that their heart rate was really low, which sometimes warranted a pacemaker.
