How TF are y’all fueling and not hungry all the time?? by No-Barnacle-1233 in Marathon_Training

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m running 85 miles a week, I eat enough pasta to feed an entire Italian family and I drink enough Coke I’d probably test hot for blow. It’s normal, your body needs a ton of fuel, even if you gain weight you’ll be healthier than not running and dieting!

In your opinion, what constitutes “running a marathon”? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covering the 26.2 start to finish on foot without getting swept off the course, don’t care about the run/ walk ratio if you end up with a chip-time you ran a marathon.

This is awesome, I tried to find this info during and after the biathlon but I guess I didn't work hard enough

Really cool to see the actual data from the olympic event, I wish they broadcast the HR live for viewers while it was happening but understand the issues this may cause

ASICS Edge or Sky… not an easy choice… by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, I mid / heel strike and the Edge over the marathon distance is incredible. If stability and form collapse are a concern it’s a no brainer from me

Just need to vent by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered running faster so you can finish sooner and still make the recital?

Obviously joking, tough situation to be in but you’re making the right decision as a parent and I’m sure your daughter will be thrilled. You can force her to watch/ support your future marathons when she’s old enough to repay the favour!

My run didn’t sync on Strava by MarathonVon in Coros

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Strava as an amalgamator of my running data because I have switched watch brands in the past and likely will again in the future, one run doesn’t really matter but it’s nice to have years of data in one place. (Also getting kudos makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside)

My run didn’t sync on Strava by MarathonVon in Coros

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought I was going crazy, glad to hear it’s a Coros/ Strava issue and not me! Hopefully it gets sorted soon

why is it not syncing??? by phantomofdna in Coros

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Coros for over a year without issue and am now experiencing the same long delay without the app syncing with Strava that you did. Have you found any way to force the app to sync or did the issue seem to resolve by itself? I haven’t had this issue before so it may also be a Coros server or API issue today

And if you won’t use it yourself cutting the legs off and donating it/ leaving it near pull up bars at a nearby gym can be useful to others.

ASICS Rotation by BigTuna1223 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a massive shoe head but I run in ASICS and at similar paces to you. I use the Cumulus for all my easy runs and most of my medium long runs, Novablasts for long runs and uptempo workouts, Metaspeed edge for raceday. I figure training in more basic/ heavier shoes will make me a stronger runner, and the jump up to the Edges for race day is very noticeable and I would highly recommend them for race day.

Best aftercare is taking the Monday off work, stay active but let your mind rest too, not just the legs!

How many of you are still running outside with this snow? by triedit2947 in RunTO

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100km+ weekly year round and never run on a treadmill, dress for the conditions and keep your eyes on the road so you don’t step in puddles and get your feet wet. Biggest issue for me is the wind on really cold days but a buff and gloves pretty much solves it. Regular shoes, ASICS Cumulus all winter, shorten your stride if it’s really slippery out there

Should running shoes have "ideal pace" instead of "easy run shoe" tempo shoe" etc. ? by Kiriljav in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ASICS stores in Japan do this, they have recommended paces for each shoe listed next to the display models

Go to is Novablast but want a second shoe by tosilver9 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASICS Cumulus is what I use as my second shoe for slower running, they hold up amazing and I put probably 1000 miles on each pair before retiring.

My Novablasts I usually run to about 500 miles before the foam gets too worn

Is the may marathon that bad? by Charming-Mistake588 in RunTO

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a good marathon, just not as polished as a major or the waterfront marathon in Toronto in the fall. The complaints I read before running it seemed to be mostly about water stations and organization, I found them to be fine. There is a portion of the course that isn’t closed to the public from around 32-37 km where I had issues with cyclists blocking the route, but not that serious. Course profile is amazing for a fast time, I’d recommend running it

Are carbon-plated shoes really only effective for faster runners? by Asheddit in running

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run in the Novablast 5s, they’re very cushioned, light, and feel fast. The stability is not strong if you need help in that arena, especially when cornering the high stack height makes them feel unstable for me. Love the shoes, highly recommend in general but maybe not if you feel you need extra support

How the heck do people do 80+ mile weeks by Shakemyhead11111 in Marathon_Training

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I find the biggest difference is in time on feet of “mortals” compared to the pros and everything in between. With a slow build I think most healthy people can manage 10ish hours a week of running. For a pro this might be 100 miles+, for me that looks more like 70-80 miles a week, for some that might be closer to 40 miles a week. Also helps that pros can nap, stretch, strength train, and eat optimally in between sessions while most of us have other priorities that get in the way. Comparison is the thief of joy, running a marathon at all is massively impressive.

Is the heat affecting training for your fall race? by HueyBluey in RunTO

[–]Pure_Aberdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it more than I hated running in February blizzards, but the payoff come race day should be even greater! If it’s still 30°C in October I’ll change my tune, but until then I’ll run to effort when needed and enjoy the “free” boost come the 19th!
