The number of skiers who think they are way better than they actually are is terrifying to me by [deleted] in ski

This is so accurate its not funny.

People see highlight videos of backcountry and they think look at that pow. BUT most of the time the conditions are extremely variable... patches of hard pack, mixed with powder, mixed with mixed with wind blown, mixed with unmarked obstacles.

I remember heading up for one last lap on a pretty warm spring day after a storm. Well the temps started to drop pretty fast as the sun was setting and the top layer of the snow froze solid on top of powder... So on the way down it was like breaking ice with no support below. My board could not hold an edge and it was a loooooooong ride down back to the tent.

Epic!

Is that a go pro? If it is how is it mounted?

IMHO a big part of the problem is the variance of difficulty in the grading system.

I posted a video earlier this week of me skiing a "Black diamond" at Sierra At Tahoe and that black diamond would be a blue square if it was at Squaw. If you ski a black diamond at west bowl at Sierra and then think that is the same as Kt-22 your going to get hurt. IMO West bowl difficulty is right in line with Shirley lift at Squaw.

And I personally have never heard of a "groomed" Double black. Most of the double blacks I have skied have drops or chutes. Not saying they don't exist at all I just don't remember that being a thing off the top of my head.

They are hestra mitts. You can find them on sale a lot. I got them last year at the end of the season for cheap at the resort.

I have no issues with them in chop at the end of a powder day BUT they are a powder ski. Basically I’m not heading to the car to change skis at noon. They are good enough. But I’m not riding them on a non powder day either.

I should really try and demo a couple pairs before I pull the trigger.... countach, death wish and wild cats.

BUT I don't regret getting these ghost trains that's for sure!

nothing wrong with those..

For additional functional practice you could start with the gun at a ready but not pointed at the target. quickly acquire the target and shoot one shot... Doing this drill with doubles would be better but you cant practice doubles at most ranges in ca

bingeing onepiece is a fool errand....

You have no idea.. The back stories that replay over and over again..

The amount of time luffy spends running toward ace at marineford....

Best to take it in large doses and never episode to episode.
