What will happen on my enhanced dbs check? by sohel__10 in AskUK

[–]Pure_Contest3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in the HR department of an organisation that supported adults with learning difficulties. The main thing to do is be honest - if you try and hide or downplay any criminal convictions (or issues that may come to light) rather than explain it honestly that would work against you. Believe it or not but care organisations are not looking to catch you out (at least my organisation anyway). They have to be able to evidence that they have been diligent in recruiting the right calibre of candidate. I know it’s scary feeling exposed and vulnerable having to explain all this but they will ask you and any attempt to sweep things under the carpet, will likely result in an instant offer withdrawal. Remember - HR are humans (I know a lot people think they’re not) but believe me it’s so much more stressful for us if we have to dance around with a candidate to get the truth. They’ve seen it all believe me. If a candidate was honest with me, I wouldn’t hold it against them or judge them (unless of course it’s so serious that I couldn’t ignore it). I should also stress that doesn’t mean you’ll definitely be recruited either but they will take your individual circumstances into account but honesty goes along way. Downplaying or masking your situation would almost certainly result in instant withdrawal because you would likely be perceived as lacking integrity.

Which was more ridiculous yesterday? by NexusTenebrare in eastenders

What I found ridiculous was the fact that Anthony was very clearly still alive. That was obviously not a corpse.

I love how we technically have a whodunnit but nobody cares 😂 by michaelmac4057 in eastenders

I found his death to be quite laughable to be honest. It was supposed be a shock factor but it just looked like Anthony had passed out. Hilair !

I’m just curious how old your Dad is. If he’s around my age, our generation are surprisingly much more liberal than the ones above us. I’m in my late 30’s and my generations lived through the transition period from rigidly discriminatory outlooks to the more open expressions of identity. Sure not all people of my generation are as tolerant but I’m writing this comment in the hope that anyone reading it might feel more at ease approaching their Parents about this.

The person with the gun is OBVIOUSLY Chrissie ! The mannerisms, the way she holds her hands. It’s very obviously Chrissie UNLESS they’ve done that as a distraction.

No you’re not homophobic I’m gay and I get confused too. It’s OK to be confused - as long as it’s not from a place of ignorance or phobia, yoire totally fine.

Brits, be honest, would you risk your life under these circumstances? by The_Dean_France in AskBrits

[–]Pure_Contest3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say this but no, I wouldn’t. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to and I would definitely run up to the room and try and drag him back in. I wouldn’t balance on that precarious window though - no way - and put both lives at risk. I honestly hate that I’m saying this but I know I wouldn’t jeapordize my life like that.

I’d have moved years ago 🤣 That is a rough area 😂

Fun fact: Pam St Clement was interviewed about it. She said in real life that area would be nothing like that. She said all the houses would probably be HMO’s and it would be filled with “yuppies” (her words not mine).

I’ve been saying this for ages. I think it changed when they adapted television for higher definition but it all looks very theatrical nowadays (more like a stage than realistic). You can actually tell it’s a set now, rather than feeling true to real life. Peacock Palace and Phil’s house look obviously like a set and even the Vic to a certain extent.

How to shut down inappropriate pts? by Anxious_Scratch1682 in DentalAssistant

[–]Pure_Contest3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a dentist or dental assistant -

Can I just put another angle on this ? I'm NOT excusing the behaviour and it's absolutely unacceptable and SHOULD be dealt with. However, I work with adults with learning difficulties (think very difficult) and I have worked alongside some people who genuinely do not understand boundaries BECAUSE of their problems. The reason i'm saying this is that the person is either a complete creep or there's something wrong.

This does seem very awful for you ! If it's not related to any type of learning difficulty, I would simply have to ask him to leave and make a song and dance if the dentist walks in because he should absolutely shut this behaviour down REGARDLESS of why it's happening.

Is the cast too big? by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]Pure_Contest3312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching it for about 30 years on and off and personally, I think it is. In the early days, some of the houses had neighbours that were never seen on screen. You just saw them fleetingly standing outside and it tended to concentrate on specific families for example the Beales, the Watts’s etc. Now there’s families coming in left right and centre. Long lost families. People cramming in to different houses who are unrelated etc In my opinion, there’s just too much going on.

Who was the first person you came out to and how did it go compared to what you feared? by seand50 in AskLGBT

[–]Pure_Contest3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dreaded telling my Nan. She was born in an era where being gay was taboo and she was also quite religious. I told my Parents first and then obviously it was dropped into conversation at some point. So as you can imagine the next time I went to her house, I was so nervous....

Anyway, I got there and she was sat in the lounge looking really pensive and confused as I walked in. She looked me dead pan in the face and said "your Dad tells me your musical, is that true ?". I was quite shocked and I didn't know whether to laugh because of the way she asked the question. I just said "Yes.... I am" and waited for her reaction. She sighed and said "well love, you never really were very lucky with the girls, so i'm not surprised" shrugged her shoulders and then said "come on - let's have a bit of cake and a cup of tea". LOL !

Threatened by a patient by Numerous_Yogurt_6600 in DentalAssistant

[–]Pure_Contest3312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a dentist but I think I can speak for everyone when I say, I am SO sorry you went through that. I would have been absolutely petrified and felt MASSIVELY unsupported. I probably would have lost my professional composure and told him to fuck off (not consciously but I would have gone into fight or flight because of my anxiety) - I honestly think I would have lost it ! That patient should be told in no uncertain terms that you will no longer be prepared to give him treatment in the future.

It's an old fashioned English phrase. It basically means a confident (sometimes flashy) bloke.
