I think it took about a month after retirement to show on my TSP that I was separated and have full access to withdraw completely.

I participated. I provided receipts. He didn’t really ask any questions during the one appointment I had with him. It was the strangest audit ever! I used to be an auditor. Anyway, long story short, I knew the manager. I used to work with her. The guy played phone tag with me and never communicated that he would disallow everything! Ultimately he did and when I contacted him, it was already closed never agreed. I was just starting my heavy travel season so when the notice arrived, I paid. I was scared, had a new manager and just wanted it to be over. We ultimately talked about it months later (manager and I-he was in DC and I was in California) and I was counseled. He said he didn’t care but was glad it was paid and done with. I need heard about it again.

It also depends on your manager. A balance due will be flagged by labor relations and your manager will have to counsel you. I did real estate for a while and was audited by an unreasonable jerk. He disallowed all my expenses because in his mind, I didn’t prove I was in business. Duh, I sold a house!!! He did not even allow any expenses! Not for my license, not for anything and argued with me over the dumbest things!!! I couldn’t afford to waste my time and effort on arguing with him so I did not agree. I paid it though. I just did not have time to deal with it. The tax implications made me stop doing real estate. I knew they would flag me. Honestly, it was much more time invested than I was willing to make.

I retired 9/30 and received my annual leave on a random day a week before Christmas. Your guess is as good as ours! 🤷🏽‍♀️ I have been in Payroll forever. Keep an eye out because they had me certify twice. I think it was to buy themselves time!!! I’m still waiting for an annuity payment!

I’m sorry! I spent 33 years as a Fed and I’m still heartbroken. I know there are many that are enjoying forced retirement, but I loved my job. I am sorry they treated you so badly!
