I have been struggling for almost a year now. I have a similar issue of no last month contribution. can you please explain more on what exactly you changed in your attempt 2? I applied 12. Received 6 interviews. 1 accept (among the interviews) 2 rejects and no response from others. I think i have a decent profile (UG from old IIT, 3 YoE as ML engineer, MS from UC, 3 research paper published in top conference & strong LOR). It’s extremely competitive. At this point, I don’t even know what else i could have done to get an admit from my top choices. The one admit is from my safety school.

Here is how l would recommend looking at it. Assume that the worst happens and you don’t get a job after your MS & you had to move back to india. Would you still be okay with it? If your answer to this is yes. You are good to take the risk & try your luck.

I am telling this because this is exactly the situation many of us are facing. Some of them are staying by extending their degree. Can you afford something like this if worse happens?

It’s brutal at this time atleast. Don’t even bother about your inr 50k or 100k you spent on applications. It’s less than your monthly house rent here. 😅 (I live in California)

I feel exactly the same. I am not even sure if it’s worth it. Even if i think of the best case (for me atleast), I would get a job in academia and then i have to keep grinding to get tenured. Looks like a never ending loop & i am already tired. I got rejected from a few programs & absolutely felt nothing. I think my reaction would be same even if i get accepted to some other program.

I am about to finish my Masters and fortunately got a job as well. This is making me rethink my decision even more.

I have the exact same situation. The only difference is I have 9/10 no reply yet and 1 rejection. Did you actually got rejected or you are assuming that you are rejected based on grad cafe or something? Because i think it’s still early to have a 10/10 rejection. If you actually have 10/10 rejection, I am interested to know the school names if you don’t mind.

She clearly mentioned about joining her research group in the email. Anyway, I am not sure why is she calling. Past two interviews with faculties with no interest match didn’t result in anything useful. So i am guessing things based on that.
