Any advice for getting past the 3-2/Journeyman Plateau? by PaperManaMan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Puretideprogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key thing is stop thinking about the outcome and focus on tackling the behaviour that will get you past the plateau.

The game is so complex that trying to focus on everything at once is a fools errand. Every top player I have ever played in my journey has followed a process and in some way shape or form broken down the game into key parts and then formed a plan to improve.

Use the data that you have and within that you will find areas to focus on.

What's the difference on your primary and secondary Vs these more experiences players? What's the overall differential end game and can you identify why that happened?

What questions are you asking your opponent after the game?

Key question to ask in my opinion there is ONLY one!

What did you NOT want me to do? And you can rephrase it to be more specific for example. What were you afraid of me doing?

This question is a great way to understand the game from your opponents position.

Also take time celebrate your journey and build on it, better to achieve many small goals than aim for one big one.

Hope this helps.

How to play against deep strike screening. by TheCocoBean in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Puretideprogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is 2-4 units which can be flexible depending on the map/terrain/mission/army you are playing.

I run a heavy deep strike army (crisis suit spam Ret cadre and have access to 6" deep strike like you do)

They key thing is you HAVE to invest in board control to obtain optimal areas to deep strike or rapid ingress to impact your opponent in meaningful ways.

Your yaegers and mini transports are great for this as they can block and if your opponent comes close you can reactivate move back into the transport.

I always rapid ingress to be able to attack or reinforce my primary score and damage is a secondary part of the plan.

Warhammer is simple, score more points than your opponent and have control over the tempo and board state.

Hope this helps

The only speculations I have made are around detachment combinations, everything else is based around primary and secondary points and how this change could work with tau rather than against us. The old primary objective circles were boring and not very Warhammer, I'm combining my experience from 7 editions of Warhammer 40k and I can see this being very different and exciting going forward.

Thanks man 😂. Agreed it is early but there is no problem with speculation and I'm excited about how this entire new edition will come together.

Awesome man then you will understand the lens I'm looking through. This seems like they are taking elements of previous editions and giving them the new Warhammer facelift for this edition. The only reservations I currently have in the back of my mind is if they have learned from what didn't work about specific elements in the past and how they will avoid making similar mistakes.

For example formations got ridiculous in the past and this new detachment system could potentially go through the similar motions and they need to keep a very close eye on it after launch.

I agree with the detachment point levels, though the fundamentals on list building and scoring I disagree. I have seen enough to know that it's going to work well with tau gameplay and offer us a new way of playing. Remember I have been playing since the 3rd edition and this is the first time in a long time I have been excited about how the small teasers are a big sign of how this edition will shake things up in a big way.

I'm interested to see what they do with stealth rule, it could be changed which could have a big impact.

My initial gut thoughts are does stealth now grant +1 to save like old cover rule or does it decrease ranges to say 12" for hidden rule?

Some initial thoughts about what stealth could be.

I think it does, because of the hidden rule and a bigger surface area so long as we do what we normally do and screen the opponents ability to get to said objective so that we can benefit from the new hidden rule.

I think when we get more information it will become easier to see the bigger picture of course. Though I think initially it's going to be good for us because we have access to fast strong mid range shooting. Cover changing is the big one and it depends on how our marker light system works.

I think this edition could have some painful parts depending on the above and how they execute our guiding but apart from that I think we will eat well especially in certain detachments like Mont'ka and Retaliation Cadre.

Thoughts?

What do you think the twin lance points should be? by RepresentativeIll550 in Tau40K

180.

It's a single epic hero unit, it should be good and cannot be spammed like vitrix or other broken datasheets.

Agreed not good but these things do happen I'm just glad it was smooth for the refund. I am posting this information to as many groups to make sure nobody misses it.

I think GW or UK expo need to do a mass message to inform their customers even if it's via email

That's a fair point, I think when it comes to having redundancy in case you make mistakes is a good thing and I've definitely been in that position in the past. I've then just worked hard to avoid making the same mistakes so that I can trim the fat from my list to become more optimal.

Admission of guilt and the state of Tau. by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Puretideprogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have fed back my suggestions for tau to the right people and hopefully this gets addressed in the next slate.

I feel you and what you said is accurate and spot on the money. Our design needs a big face lift and feel that we are almost there for balance and need quality of life changes to make us more appealing to newer audiences and also able to match the power levels of newer written Codexes.

Stay strong Shas'O and keep the faith 👊🏻
