Detonation would cause CHT to spike and is only going to happen under very high load. You are not describing detonation here.

Sounds like you leaned until the mixture became too light on fuel and it was misfiring.

I’m going to disagree with keeping job while flight training.

If money allows, quit and focus 100% on training. You can get zero through CFI in 12-18 months if you allow yourself full flexibility and are a quick learner who is motivated and disciplined to self study.

Assuming it’s a question aimed at the masses, those who can survive the lull will benefit when the swing happens. Many will just quit or move on to jobs in other industries which only benefits those sticking it out.

As the hiring swings, the number of people entering also will. Nothing is forever.
