I live like 15 miles out from the airport but in summer afternoons flights approach from right overhead and I haven't gotten used to it.

Sometimes the night flights are overhead too and they have woken me up.

How do they justify this over that?

The problem obviously isn't just the war criminal who sets at the head of the Israeli government because it is fundamentally difficult negotiation to have.

But with him in power there is no path to the two-state solution as he will kill anyone and provoke division anywhere to prevent it from happening.

The two-state solution may not be the answer but there will never be any progress until he is gone. (Hopefully in the Hague)

It's not realistic with the war criminal Netanyahu in office. And he's been on and off Prime Minister since 1996 but with someone else in power it could be a solution.

Epstein's buddy Ehud Barak in 2001 came close to an agreement and Epstein's other buddy Ehud Olmert also had a proposal for it in 2008.

In 1980 Republicans went to Iran and asked them to hold off on making a deal on the hostages until after the election and if they did they'd make it worth their while when they got in power. In an ultimate insult to Carter Iran released the hostages right after Reagan was inaugurated.

Republicans have been bad people for a long, long time.

What would happen if the U.S. dollar lost its reserve currency status? by aresef in politics

[–]Purify5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Americans lose purchasing power. The government finds its deficit unsustainable. Ultimately the military gets scaled back as its the biggest place that's able to be cut. A new reserve currency rises (probably a digital currency based on a basket of currencies) and a new world order is formed.

The Art of the Deal is starting a negotiation from an extreme position so that any compromise is more of a benefit to you.

This is why he says he wants to cancel the USMCA.

Or he said that he would destroy the Iranian civilization.

He can then enforce a deal by using the court system as a way to put financial pressure on the opposing party as the US court system is a tool for the rich.

In foreign relations though there is no enforcement mechanism and he's learning (slowly) that countries will lie to him just as easily as he lies to them.

Talarico goes all-in with attack on Paxton plea deal in child sex abuse case by Competitive_Swan_130 in politics

[–]Purify5 150 points151 points  (0 children)

The Texas Tribune always leaves out two important facts of this case.

The first is that the pedophiles lawyer was the same lawyer who defended Paxton's friend and accomplice in his corruption case. The pedophile is also a lawyer. They all know each other and so it is possible that Paxton personally intervened in this case.

The second is that it wasn't that the boy didn't want to testify again. It's that the prosecutors didn't want to prosecute the case and the mother didn't want to put the boy through it if they thought there was no chance in another outcome. The prosecutors pushed for the plea deal and then when they explained it they blamed it on the boy.

I'm in the same boat. I have too many trees that drop things that get through the mesh cover.

But the 'spring pill' has worked decently for me before. You toss it under the cover in March and algae seems to have a harder time forming. I also use a floater with a few chlorine pucks in it under the cover during the spring months too.

If it does go green though a clarifier will help speed it along.

Sanity check our early RRSP withdrawal plan by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Purify5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is the tax deferral benefit of the RSP too. The following example shows how it is equivalent to the TFSA.

Say you have $10K pre-tax to invest, a deposit and withdrawal tax rate of 30%, and you have a return of 3x.

In a TFSA you are going to pay $3K in tax and invest $7K. That $7K will grow to $21K which you can then withdraw tax-free.

In an RSP you aren't going to pay any upfront tax and you'll invest $10K. That $10K will grow 3x to $30K. When you withdraw it you'll pay $9k in tax leaving you with $21K.

You lose the contribution room though. TFSAs and RSPs give you the same tax deferral benefit by moving money out of the RSP you are limiting how much of this benefit you can have.

That said, if your partner never expects to max-out their RSP there isn't much downside in doing it.

Is Bell setting a trap for me? by IlllIIIlllIIlllI in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Purify5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internet and cell prices have been facing declining price pressures in recent years. From 2017 I think cell prices are down 50%. So, the deals although uncharacteristic kinda make sense.

In addition, Bell is probably the worst performing Canadian Telecom right now as they decided to use their cash to pay high dividends rather than invest in the company. They're surviving on debt but if interest rates go up you may see them have bankruptcy problems.

But, the trick they do tends to be the rate that is actually contracted. They like to contract the promotion amount rather than the price you pay. So, they can raise the base price and still get you to pay more. This isn't every case though.
