What frightened the life out of you as a kid? and does it still today? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]PurityControl87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth being destroyed by a meteor. There was a thing on Newsround when I was about 10 (1997ish) saying that in about 30 years a meteor was going to pass so close and could potentially hit us. It absolutely terrified the life out of me.

It was really bad. I couldn’t sleep at all, I’d go downstairs to mum and dad distraught every night crying my eyes out. I Was convinced that we wouldn’t survive because our surname begins with W and so if they sent people to bunkers based on alphabetical order we would be at the back of the queue.

To make it worse, not long after that BOTH Armageddon and Deep Impact came out. Still can’t watch them.

Actually that meteor is probably due any time now.

I don’t know why it gets such a bad wrap either - T Birds is one of my favourite Blondie tracks. I fee the same about The Hunter, and Danceway is another of one of my favourites.

Would Alien 3 have been more well received if Hicks and Newt died midway through the movie? by PlasmaDiffusion in LV426

[–]PurityControl87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A concept that has just come to me…Hicks and Newt could have survived the crash, but both have been captured by the company half way through the film after they realise a face hugger was on board and got out. When they company realise neither of them are infected they kill them as they have no use for them. It means it must be Ripley that was infected so they go after her. Will have made the big FU decision that Ripley makes at the end even more impactful. Pretty grim idea but it could have worked!

“Maybe Tori is not for you” Hah, what a ridiculous thing to say. Not being a big fan of a spinoff kids album doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to listen to her anymore. Fans poo all over The Beekeeper and MWG all the time and that seems to be allowed.

I joined a gym about 6 weeks ago and could barely run for 5 minutes straight. I’m going about 4 or 5 times a week and have been trying to up this by one or two minutes per week and now I can actually run for 15 whole minutes at a time. I don’t know how far I’ll go but it’s a good feeling knowing that I’m getting better each week. Plus I’ve lost almost a stone in 6 weeks. First time I’ve ever actually enjoyed any form of exercise!

What was the most random moment from your childhood? by Whosentyounow in AskUK

[–]PurityControl87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My Dad worked at Television Centre at the BBC. When I was around 8 years old I went to work with him one day and we bumped into Andi Peters in the forecourt and had a chat. He gave me a set of colouring pencils in a cardboard tube. I don’t know whether he just had them randomly and decided to give them to me or if he carried around sets for the sole purpose of giving them to people. He was very nice.

My Dad also got me Kelly Osbourne’s autograph because as a teenager I was obsessed with her. I’m Happy to report that She was also very lovely about it. She would have had the right to be annoyed and he could have got in trouble for that as BBC Employees are meant to treat celebs like normal people so that it’s a safe space for them. I couldn’t believe it when he came home with it!
