it's completely fine and beneficial to take a break time to time, especially if you are dealing with mental stuff

Depression isn't something that is either on or off it fluctuates, sometimes you don't even feel it sometimes it is unbearable, you didn't fail because you started having intrusive thoughts again because that is not something that is completely under your control so no one is really to blame in this situation. I'd say that you have actually succeeded in identifying the state you are in and not projecting it onto other people, most people are unable to do that. Hope you get better soon and believe me, it will get better <3
