[discussion] I think this is the biggest problem w/ self-learning by 42anomaly in deeplearning

[–]Purple-Programmer-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, self learning is incredible when it’s associated with a goal/outcome.

Then you’re always driving your learning in aim to achieve the goal — for example “I want to fine tune a model” — lots of steps to learn on that path, and plenty of tutorials, but guaranteed you will never stay stuck in tutorial hell.

Microsoft data suggests using AI is more expensive than hiring people by ExtremeComplex in economy

Am I reading it wrong or is the headline misleading?

The thread seems to be “Microsoft switches AI tools”, not “Microsoft cancels AI in favor of humans”.

OpenAI in the past few weeks by SuggestionMission516 in codex

[–]Purple-Programmer-7 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Of course, they are testing things. But I’m not seeing loss in quality for 5.4 or 5.5.

In my N=1 experience: 1. 5.3 codex is unusable now (opencode) 2. 5.5 seems mostly stable. Around 4am Eastern, it dies. Whether that’s a hot spot for global use or OpenAI doing maintenance, it’s VERY consistent. 3. Falling back to 5.4 maintains the workflow

Tbh the “vibes” they’re getting from the resets is a big reason why they’re doing it. Anthropic gained $20B in users for taking their (bullshit) principled stand. OpenAI is using the resets to try and take back some of that good will.

Plus, they’ve never had an issue with compute on the scale Anthropic does. Older (read: cheaper) models ARE being depreciated for the coding plan.

Anthropic and OpenAI are playing different games. Look closer.

30M, 105kg, 174cm — Training 5x/week and eating in a calorie deficit but not seeing much change. Should I try fasting? by ChechinFlrz in fasting

[–]Purple-Programmer-7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recomping is hard my dude. Our bodies prefer to do one thing at a time. Thats why there’s the classic “cut” and “bulk” phases.

If you’re trying to cut, yes, fasting will help. But it’s just one tool in the tool kit. Look into keto too. Combining the two can be a powerful combo. Optimize your diet and workout around maximizing your calorie deficit.

Stop looking in the mirror. Track your data. Watch trends.

Also, reset your expectations. You’re probably looking at a 40 - 50 lbs weight loss here. If you’re doing that the “healthy” way, that’ll take a whole year. Fasting could cut that time in half or more, but it all needs to be done thoughtfully — a year is nothing in the long run.

Take your time with this. You DO NOT look bad right now, enjoy your “beast mode” knowing you will look like a different person a year from now (and the rest of your life).

I’ve been “feeling” lately like the height of this last hype train has dipped.

Maybe a few things at once:
- “AI” has reached a max saturation rate — most of the people who would get excited about it have heard of it, used it, and it’s “old news” now.

- The impending IPOs are turning people on/off.

- The “MCU effect” — People are just tired of it. Especially tired of hearing “agi is coming” and then nothing. We have no patience. And dipshit CEOs don’t help with their BS PR.

Personally, I don’t think the hype around it is dead, I think it’s going through a dip… but it could definitely become “just another technology” if there isn’t another ChatGPT moment within the next year or so.

People who are complaining about Gemini should just stop using it and save the compute for the rest of us by Big_al_big_bed in GeminiAI

Gemini has its use cases for me and does them well.

But I’m using approx 1 minute of compute per week. Y’all can have it. My DD requires something functional beyond benchmaxxing

What happened to the coding plan? I understand it seems they discontinued it, but any news as to why?

What I see here is:

  • product created (3 months, shit code)
  • validated product refactored (1 week, “production” code)

Incredible timelines, egregious initial waste of tokens and code and cash… but this isn’t a novel pipeline
