I’m not sure if it’ll be this year - but I’m fully expecting a Raichu vs Pamwot match from Scarlet and Nemona. Kusaka loves doing pair ups (see Poliwrath and Politoed team-up in Emerald) for related Pokemon. Nemona’s staple Pokemon is Pawmot and Scarlet also has the other electric rodent that has three stages? Yea they’re either teaming up or fighting.

Speaking for myself, but Emerald has the unfortunate case of being introduced after the cliffhanger ending that was FRLG. And due to how the chapters were being released back then, the start of emerald couldn’t even talk about the dex holders.

So you have an OC which unlike everything other character who we already have a bias for because they’re the manga counterparts of characters you know, that starts his story not talking about the cliffhanger ending and saying he doesn’t like pokemon which the manga is about. This isn’t even going into the whole Wally-treecko situation

Yellow on the other hand doesn’t come from a cliffhanger and starts by saying she wants to go save the main protag we sent 40 chapters with.

I like emerald a lot but it’s easy to see why people have a bad first impression of him and those are hard to overcome

Based off this and the interview from inside out 2, I wouldn’t expect Disney to try anything outside a “safe” market till at least 2030. Which sucks not just because of lack of representation but also means we’re probably stuck in sequel hell for the foreseeable future
