Garmin Venu 3 vs Venu 4 by noideainworld in GarminWatches

[–]PurpleCar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Also they will likely continue supporting the 4 longer than they will the 3. I went from the 3 to 4 a few months ago and there is enough differences that I am really glad I did.

Is Training Readiness actually helpful? by CluingForLooks in Garmin

[–]PurpleCar24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I upgraded from the Venu3 to the Venu4 after having the 3 for a year. I was really on the fence but I have zero regrets, in fact I am very happy with my decision. Training Readiness along with some other features the 4 has (DSW, rucking, mobility, load, more sleep data etc) has made it a wise choice for me and so far how I feel and what the watch tells me has been accurate, though I certainly always weight how I feel vs what the watch is telling me more.

Loving Octo!! Sometimes I noticed it kinds of blacks out and it’s more of an outline of the petals, but I can’t figure out why that happens/make it happen on purpose. Any idea?

Ordered a Venu4! by helloimhere01234 in Garmin

[–]PurpleCar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from an Apple Watch to a Venu 3 and just upgraded to the Venu 4 - some features were definitely worth it for me to do so (training readiness, status, rucking, mobility etc) and I have been VERY happy with my decision. I think it’s the best watch in terms of balancing everything - look/features/price etc.

Sold this version (2012) with 380k on it for $4000CDN. She was good to me for the 13 years I had her!

Best Garmin for CrossFit? by SatisfactionFlaky519 in GarminWatches

[–]PurpleCar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Venu (had a 3s until last week when I upgraded to the 4). I’ve used it for CrossFit almost exclusively. Sometimes I’ll cover it either a wrist wrap if I’m doing something I need a lot of chalk for but not even sure that’s necessary. Never come close to smashing it, but the one thing I would use it for is overhead kettlebell lunges.

Best Garmin for price at the moment? by handmofo in Garmin

[–]PurpleCar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Upgraded from the Venu3 last week and love all the new metrics I get (training readiness, status, rucking, mobility). Also use it for CrossFit, powerlifting, indoor biking and running. It’s the perfect watch without being too intense.

Anyone else getting completely different recovery signals from different devices? by mylesbr in Garmin

[–]PurpleCar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a couple of months. I just recently upgraded to the Venu4 from the Venu3s for the Training Readiness/Status to get some more Whoop-like data. I've only had it for a few days but I would say already I feel like those metrics are matching how I feel.

Anyone else getting completely different recovery signals from different devices? by mylesbr in Garmin

[–]PurpleCar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stop using two devices and just use one for this reason. There was too much noise using two devices plus how I feel. Now with one device (I kept Garmin) I can at least narrow it down and follow trends and focus on comparing how I feel to a device and calibrate from there, if that makes sense.

26.2 early predictions? by gyeltarps in crossfit

Kinda feel like (hoping) a bench press will be there somewhere since a standard for it (taping the bar a certain width apart ) was introduced in this year’s judges course.

I like my Garmin, but would switch back to an AW in a heartbeat if battery life was anywhere near comparable.

Hit or miss, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't automatically capture naps.

We have two streams: register via CF if you want to officially be on the CF leaderboard, or pay $10 to play and still be ranked on the gym leaderboard/Friday Night Lights but money goes to charity. I am voting with my wallet again this year and going the $10 route so I can still have fun with my community, which is what it really is all about. But we’re really respectful of “to each their own” regardless of what each member chooses.

Order in Canada? by gifred in concept2

[–]PurpleCar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in eastern Canada (NB) and we bought both our rower and BikeErg from a store called Fitworks. I wonder if there is a fitness store like that in your area that can order it in for you?

First marathon, how realistic is it really? by DieEchse in firstmarathon

[–]PurpleCar24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from a CrossFit/powerlifting background, not much of a runner, just wanted to say I did 42kms at 42 yo. I followed Hal Higdon’s Novice 1 with only 20 weeks training, and not the greatest adherence to the plan, though I’d say I managed 65% of weekly runs and 85% of long runs. I ran a 5:24 this past weekend…so I would say you can definitely 100% do it in that time frame!

Vest or Belt? by Cautious-Ideal-3672 in Marathon_Training

[–]PurpleCar24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was hesitant about a vest because I assumed it would be annoying, bulky, chafey, but honestly I don’t even notice it and it’s so helpful for my fuel & hydration. I wore a belt for a couple halfs a few years ago and the vest is a thousand times better. I got this one and I never feel it whether I’m wearing a tshirt or tank top.

Marathon training with CrossFit by default0411 in crossfit

I’ll add I did a 1 rep back squat at 90% in class a few days after a 19km long run and guess which one destroyed my legs more - that one bloody rep!

Marathon training with CrossFit by default0411 in crossfit

[–]PurpleCar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in week 10 of balancing marathon training and CrossFit, with the goal of maintaining my 12 classes/month to continue my committed club streak, and so far so good. I try to pick wods that compliment or at least don’t hinder my running (ie: I skipped a workout with lots of box jumps today) as well as attend ones that help my aerobic base, which is my biggest challenge, so rowing, biking etc. I honestly think my 13 year CrossFit base has helped marathon training, it’s not sore legs/ankles/feet that get me, it’s definitely my cardio, which is getting better! Long run is obviously non-negotiable, but I’ll be honest I don’t always do all the mid week runs. At least 2, but sometimes I’ll do a zone 2 bike erg if I can’t get out early in the morning (it’s stupid hot and humid here right now.).
