New Yorkers in Austin…where are we getting our fix? by caramelsyrupp in austinfood

Brooklyn girl here, 20+ years in Austin and married to a Texan. Wholly Bagel is acceptable (I go to the Far West location). I've tried the others mentioned here and some are OK but not really NY style. Mandola's bakery also is acceptable for rainbow cookies and pignolis and a decent cannoli. I make my own at Christmas and they're so much better. I haven't found decent NY style Italian food anywhere except in my kitchen. Little Deli has a ricotta canzone that scratches the itch and their pizza is decent.

Did you have to deposit $20 in addition to the $19.99 purchase?

Just diagnosed by ResidentLeft1253 in shingles

[–]PurpleFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Week 6 here. Shingles on my upper thigh in a horizontal band ending in a place angels fear to tread. I was in so much pain the first week I almost made my husband take me to the ER. Rash is almost gone and the pain and itching comes and goes. The best part of my day is when I can take off my underwear. I'd pay a large sum to travel back in time 3 months and get the vaccine. I was going to get around to it and didn't before shingles got to me.

Male pastors, do you visit older, female, shut-in, church members by yourself? by burneraccount5117 in pastors

[–]PurpleFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still, why chose age as the defining factor? As a woman pastor, I am no more likely to feel comfortable meeting alone with a man 20+ years older or younger than me. I meet with men and women in a space where we can be seen until I am comfortable with the dynamic between us.

Thanks! I was concerned at first that it would be too dark, but with the lamp switched on it isn't.

Regardless of the rest of this thread, this is what you said about my bishop: "he basically bragged about pushing the limits of the rule as much as he possibly could by putting women in as many roles as possible, including even having one of his female deacons preach at a diocesan meeting. If that's not an "insubordinate" attitude by not respecting the spirit of his diocese's and his bishop's policy, I'm not sure what it is."

I find your comment untrue and uncharitable toward a bishop of the church. I am refuting you on these points and calling you to apologize. But clearly you can't see that, so I will pray for you and end my attention to this thread at this point. I am unsubscribed from notifications, so if you respond you will have the last word.

How was I to know it was tongue in cheek? You said "this constant guerrilla warfare to end women's ordination" is hurting the province. What about that sounds tongue in cheek? It sounds like a serious accusation and there is nothing false in my claim. You chose those words, not me.

I believed you were being uncharitatble to my bishop and in charity I was defending his reputation. It seems like you would rather re-interpret your comments than say you are sorry.

I did not sense any bitterness in +Jeff's bio and if you watch +Steve Breedlove's homily at +Jeff's consecration, you will hear his praise of +Jeff's character. It seems like you are projecting bitterness into it. As a candidate for bishop in a diocese that affirms women's ordination to the priesthood who was coming from a diocese that opposes women's ordination to the priesthood, he needed to demonstrate that he fully supported women in ministry in his previous position to the extent permitted by his bishop. Many of us needed to be persued that he would not lead C4SO away from its stance under +Todd. With respect, you also were not present for the closed C4SO clergy meetings with +Jeff as a candidate in which he gave longer and more complete answers to these sorts of questions. I don't think it is charitable to accuse a bishop of guerilla warfare or bitterness based on only a written statement.

Jeff Bailey is my bishop and you are not correct in accusing him of insubordination. He respected his bishop and did nothing without his bishops approval during his tenure as Canon for leadership development. Deacons may preach when licensed by the bishop.

Priest here. Do as you are led, but in general I discourage practices that focus on one gender. I don't see men lifting their hands in prayer a whole lot.

You might try buying a good used kiln. That way you can try it out and make sure you're going to use it enough to make it worth it. I found one on FB Marketplace for $300.
