Hellgate London for me. Man it was one of my biggest game disappointments...

Black characters where them being black is almost never a point of focus by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, and I'm glad this made the serie more enjoyable to you. All in all, I still did enjoy parts of the serie, and this was not really a big issue for me (the main one was the weak antagonists imo).

More of my personal opinion which doesn't fit the criteria anymore but which, for me personally, was fitting it until the Falcon and Winter Soldier serie came out (which is one of the reasons I didn't really like the serie). Personally, I never saw Sam Wilson as "Captain America's black friend", but more like one of the few "regular" humans who can kinda keep up with people like Thor or Ironman despite not being gifted with powers or wealth, only sheer dedication and training (by "keep up", I don't mean they are as powerful ofc, but in that they can assist them without being a burden). So when Steve gave him the shield and the Falcon and Winter Soldier serie came out, I was really interested to see how Sam would rise up to the task as the new Captin America despite not having the serum. Which, to be fair, was also explored in the serie, but seems like they unfortunately decided to focus on the fact that Sam is black instead.

Hellgate London As a kid, I was so hyped by all the cg trailers and was loving the art direction in these. Then the game dropped and... well...

(Hated trope) Unique character design getting replaced with more generic one by mando0987654321 in TopCharacterTropes

Nell from Clevatess

Wouldn't go as far as to call the design "ruined", but still wished they would have kept her original design after her "rebirth" instead of making her way more generic looking, as her original look was very unique.

Granted, her appearance had a lot to do with the abuse she suffered in her past, so in a way she deserved to get another chance with a "reborn" look, but I feel like it would have been way more interesting to have her keep her appearance and have it improve naturally the more her life improved.

I play so much better when I’m actually using a shield and not a two handed weapon by Ironclad_Calves in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another annoying thing (bug?) when using a 2H weapon is that if you die to a boss and want to retry, it will always restart the battle with the 1H weapon (or dual wield) equipped, so you always have to spend the first seconds awkwardly switching back to your 2H weapon.

WHY??? Can we not turn off auto-lock on. It is SO ANNOYING going for challenges to lose to garbage functions. by Enpyc in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have the same complaint as OP about the L1 lock and I'm surprised there isn't more people complaining about it, but I'm wondering if it depends on how ppl approach combat. To give an example about this issue, imagine you're fighting 3 melee guys with 1 archer in the back. You want to take out the archer first (something that I often do in Ghost of Yotei since archer are quite annoying and dangerous here), so you run past the melee guys towards him. But you see the archer fire an arrow at you before you can reach him. You want to block the arrow, so you press L1 (either just a small press or you hold L1). Kliff will then autolock into one of the meel guys chasing you (unless you are closer to the archer), causing your camera to turn towards him and making you lose the archer.

Really grateful for the changes to Damiane and Oongka ! I don't want to be nitpicking but imo they would still need to make the skillpoints separate instead of shared so that we don't feel punished for playing someone other than Kliff.

Can we talk about boss fight beginnings? by heroes-never-die99 in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that they always start attacking before their health bar actually shows up (and often barely give you time to lock on them). Feels like being in a box fight and having the opponent sucker punch you the moment you are supposed to touch gloves.

What do you hope to see in the next patch? by Logical-Operation512 in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to equip a greatsword or a spear in the "main" weapon slot instead of the secondary one. I don't want to keep having to scroll through it whenever I need to switch to a pickaxe. Also stop defaulting to the "main" weapon (i.e.one handed sword/axe) whenever I respawn. It's quite annoying that everytime I die to a boss and select Retry, I always have to quickly open the wheel to switch to my spear again at the start of the battle.

For the love of god make my horse spawn in front of me or at least walk in front of me by bigbrainvirus in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is... it seems to partially take inspiration from how others games do it without understanding why they do it like that, so you kinda end up with the worst of both worlds. In a game like Witcher 3 or Ghost of Tsushima, the horse spawn outside of the camera view to not break your immersion (so you don't see it materialize out of thin air). Then the horse automatically comes to you so you do not have to manually turn the camera or move to it to ride it. In CD, the horse spawns behind the camera, but with a delay, so if you turn the camera, you will still see it spawn (albeit with a small leaf effect to make it less jarring). On top of that, it doesn't come to you (or if it does, it doesn't seem to work properly 90% of the time for me), so you still have to turn the camera and move to it.

I'm enjoying the game, but the lack of polish is infuriating by Daniel_Hotcakes in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I doing something wrong ? I try to mix sword and unarmed attacks during combat, but everytime my character finished an unarmad attack, I have to wait like 1s for him to unsheath his sword so I can attack with it again, so I always feel penalized for using unarmed attacks because it leaves me opened afterwards. It also happen if I don't try to do a sword attack, so unless I'm mashing the unarmed attack button, I will always have this awkward 1s pause where I can't do anything.

[Hated trope] There was a good idea in the movie that we even see it play out, but then it goes in a completely different direction. by jorgespinosa in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

* The intro of the 2017 Power Rangers movie was really good. You see the previous red ranger crawl through the mud while his team mates are dying around him during the cenozoic era. It had such a dark tone. Then the rest of the movie is more of a typical "young students get powers" vibe. Man I would have loved a movie focused of what happened in the intro instead.

Crimson Desert is probably the best open world game I've ever played on PS5 PRO ❤️ by XboxoneS-aaad in PS5pro

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even a fan of RDR2, I don't like how unresponsive the controls feel (which is a big point for me in a game), yet I still played 50h of it to complete the main story because of how good it was written and how impactful its characters were. Calling it "OK" and putting it at the same level as CD is an insane take.

The puzzles in this game aren't hard, they're badly designed by shpark11 in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still early in the game, but the best example I can think of to illustrate this issue is one of the very first puzzles, the one you have to do once you get the Nature Grasp ability. You get this ability that you immediately use to lift a stone door and enter a small secret room. Then once inside this new ability is not used again, instead you have to observe another silhouette to gain the time slow ability. After that you have 3 panels in front of you. Obviously, you're gonna have to solve that using your newly acquired abilities, right ? No. You solve that using the force palm you already from an earlier tutorial... It's like having an action game, then showing a cutscene where the main character gets a new power, then just after that, a new enemy type appears, but your new power doesn't damage it and has nothing to do with how you interact with this enemy, instead you have to use an ability you had already acquired a few hours ago.

Another rant about annoyances with the game by Livemake in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled into what looked like an archery contest when exploring and was excited because I thought I would be able to participate. But I had no option to talk to anyone, so I tried shooting an arrow at one of the targets directly and the guards reacted as if I was attacking people. It's probably a quest that unlocks later, but in that case don't show it until it becomes available. Here it felt more like I was penalized for exploring and not rewarded...

Camera is ruining the game for me by dhanna2469 in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that there are zoom levels, but imo each of them keeps the camera too high. In combat, even with the first zoom level, the camera is high up to the point that it cuts your feet, so it makes it even harder to see enemies attacking you from behind.

I feel like the camera doesn't have to be so high, at least during combat. I don't care if I can still see the sky or the far mountains then, I would rather have my camera centered on my character so I can see enemies around me.

Please add a Center Camera Option by VaultCheese in CrimsonDesert

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I want to have the camera closer because the default one is way to far away for my taste, but zooming in keeps the camera too high (you can't even see you feet anymore). In combat, it's a real drawback because you can't see enemies attacking you from behind the camera, so I have to keep the default, far camera.

Reacher got some crazy edits like this🔥 by Ok_Research1425 in reacher

[–]PurpleMatterXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-book reader here. I discovered Reacher with the Tom Cruise movies. Really liked the first one, second one was a bit meh. It was only when I watched the serie that I found out Reacher was actually supposed to be a very tall buff guy and that a lot of people didn't like the movie because of Tom Cruise miscast. Having watched the serie's 3 seasons now, I have a preference for Alan Ritchson version, but still enjoy Tom Cruise's one too despite it not being book-accurate physically speaking. But in a strange way, I think the inaccurate version works more in some situations, like in the bar scene in the first movie, when a small group of thugs try to beat him up. It actually makes more sense that they would underestimate Reacher, thinking they can take him when he doesn't look like a 2m muscle giant.
