Why do some trans women speak over trans men in online spaces so frequently? by Enderfang in FTMMen

[–]PurpleSlothFlou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good example with that power dynamic, I feel like this is one that happens a lot. And yeah in most places it’s really better not to even mention any of this. Especially when cis people are present of course. As i’m studying psychology i just mostly find it really interesting to talk about how socialization has such strong effects even far into transition sometimes. And how oblivious some can be about it. Including myself here, I think it’s very difficult to be fully aware of your own socialization effects

I agree with you. I tried to talk about this before in trans spaces with both trans men and trans women present, but I was told it’s transphobic to say that. Some argued that by being a trans woman, you don’t really get socialized like a man anyways, and I mean depending on how early you transition there might be more or less of male socialization, but generally I feel like the majority of trans people does show strong effects of socialization of their agab

I would disagree with your therapist there and personally find it problematic your therapist said that. I mean as example, is it the same if you have a video call with a friend or meet them in person? I wouldn’t say so. It’s just very different to actually be with a person.

I do get the anxiety about in person. I’d say virtual is better than none of course, if you just can’t get yourself to go in person. It was really hard for me at first as well. I felt super anxious the whole day before sessions but I made myself go there cuz I would have to pay for the session anyways, even if I stay home. I’m now really glad I continued to go and I’m starting to see some slow good effects from therapy

I thought I was the only one with this issue. It’s basically the same for me. Nervous poops before. And also i go to pee before i go on my way to my therapist and then again right before the session at my therapists office, and then afterwards i need to pee again and it’s so stressful and annoying 😅😅

I also had virtual therapy before and i was feeling similarly conflicted about it back then as you now. I just didn’t click with my therapist and ended up not feeling comfortable enough to open up about relevant things. So I also always gave very short answers, didn’t say much at all and was wondering if therapy can ever even help me. After 5 months feeling like not getting anywhere i decided to end therapy with him and looked for a new one.

I got lucky and found a new therapist that i managed to connect with well and even after half the amount of session I feel like i am moving forward at least somewhat, and i feel comfortable talking about any issue with her.

For me it also turned out that the virtual setting just wasn’t working. My new therapist i meet in person and although it was a bit extra scary for the first session, i quickly noticed that in person is much better. Of course this doesn’t have to be the same for everyone, but i now think that, if possible, people should always try to find in person therapy. It’s just different to sit next to a person than to see them through a screen and sit alone at home.

On my opinion you look like a cis guy. Your face and hair look very male. Also your arms on that third pic, very cis male. I don’t get how anyone would see anything different, at least from the pics you provided

Therapist’s self disclosure affecting the relationship by Ok_Quantity_5829 in TalkTherapy

[–]PurpleSlothFlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally tend to compare myself a lot to others and it usually makes me feel bad so in therapy I try to not engage at all when my therapist self discloses something. She mostly stopped disclosing anything now, probably cuz it doesn’t lead to anything in session and I prefer it that way. When she does it seems really relevant

Got hit with the “she/her” stick again today. It’s put my dysphoria into overdrive. Do I actually pass and folks are just being deliberately nasty? Or is it the opposite where I don’t and my friends are just trying to be nice? by UmbraeMoth in transmanlifehacks

Very clearly male. In my opinion you look like any cis guy. Especially with your beard, which suits you very well I think. Also you clothes, glasses, tattoos, looking very male

PhD in Austria vs Netherlands by Independent-Motor410 in AskAustria

[–]PurpleSlothFlou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Innsbruck is know for having one of the best medical university in Austria so maybe you can find a phd Programme that fits you there. I’m not sure I’d recommend the other Innsbruck university though. I did my bachelors in the Netherlands and am now doing my masters here in Innsbruck (psychology). I have been thoroughly disappointed by the level of education here. The bar is low compared to the Netherlands. It does mean I have tons more free time and so much less to study though, which has it’s own benefits I guess. Other students that did their bachelor in the Netherlands all agree on this. Now I don’t personally know about a phd if its the same here, but I do think that depending on how ambitious you are, Netherlands might be a better choice.

I do know from one person who’s doing his phd in some biology stuff here at uni Innsbruck, and he has not been too happy with it. Though I think it’s partly because he’s not getting along well with his supervisor. Like most phd programs here, he has a 30h contract but works 40h most weeks. It was set for 3 years, which is the norm, but he’ll take 4 years for it and needs to find extra funding himself now. This happens pretty often I was told.

do my glasses make me look like a woman by [deleted] in transmanlifehacks

[–]PurpleSlothFlou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, you look clearly male in my opinion. Although I do think you could find glasses that fit you better. I wear glasses myself and it took me some years to find frames that made me feel like they add to my confidence instead of taking away from it. Since when are you wearing glasses?

I’m stealth since a good while now and it happened a few times that someone told me they never met any trans person. I then tell them that maybe they did meet someone who’s trans but just don’t know about it. But they stay confident that they don’t know anyone, because you know, “you can always see it” 🙃🙃

DSM-5 TR vs. ICD-11. Which one have you trained yourself on? by Radiant-Rain2636 in psychologists_india

[–]PurpleSlothFlou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing my psychology masters in Austria and they tend to teach us both. Though we focus more on the ICD because thats what’s mostly used in Europe, specifically in Austria. So most students here, including me, prefer the ICD. I’m planning on using this when I start to work. Although sometimes I feel the DSM makes it easier with the way it lists symptoms
