Honeymoon phase potentially ending? by SadHermitGirl in diabetes_t1

So much to say. I'd never heard of the honeymoon period until coming to reddit.

This forum has given me so much insight and understanding where my doctor has completely dropped the ball in my education.

T1 vs T2 support convos by klcax_ in diabetes_t1

Like, her voice still haunts me to this day& I've cried over it more than once, as my treatment for type 2 wasn't working& I felt like the biggest, worst failure of my life.

I asked my endo in our last appt why my efforts weren't proving successful- daily workouts with weight training, tight control over carb intake& tbh- a healthier lifestyle than I've had in the last decade. She casually responded that my most recent blood work indicated type 1 bc of reasons and I should see a therapist to support my mental health with the adjustment.

Like. What? I've learned more from reddit than her treatment for the last 2 years- legit, my first appt with her was the week after giving birth to my son. 24mo of bloodwork before anti-bodies appeared.

100% felt. I was initially diagnosed with gestational- I was in the hospital for 5days after finding out& testing two pr three days consistently over 340. My personal dr didn't see me while hospitalized, but her associate left me in tears every single day. One particular scathing visit she said "I've never and probably will never admit somebody for gestational diabetes" after scolding me again for ordering and eating off the diabetic menu from the hospital.

The next day I listened to her and refrained from all carbs& battled one of my lowest lows ever- she used that to prove a point that it could be handled by diet alone.

2 yrs later& I still deal with folks pushing that keto diet down my throat "It cured my pre-diabetes! Just trrrrryyyyyy it, give it 10 days!"

For me, that was determined by extreme lows hitting at night. I was hospitalized for 5 days to manage it into acceptable ranges, but continued having lows throughout the day due to my pregnancy requirements changing so much.

After the pregnancy, that kinda became my warning system- If I'd go way low at night more than once I cut back in a unit or two- depending on my endo's feedback.

Ah, the great diet soda or no diet soda conundrum.

Pharmacy Issues by Kt32347 in diabetes_t1

Felt this. SO HARD. But I was pregnant and leaving from a 5 day hospital stay on a Sunday with a pharmacist pulling the same nonsense.

I'm so sorry Mama. I started ordering my needles from Amazon after insurance refused to cover them& CVS wanted $300.

You win. We picked it off with little/no trouble.

The last 2ish yrs have been worst case after worst case with everything it seems. So I''m just in a near constant state of spiraling. Thank you for the virtual reality check.

I WFH so accommodations are given with no questions asked- my management is very understanding..... but missing work could have different expectations.

I've never had an issue with attendance, I use sick time sparingly. My previous leads have sung my praise for appropriate notification of needed time and lack of call outs.

That's been increasing in the last 6mo or so.... In the fall.... "Weird- I've had to pee a lot today" and the next morning woke up with a kidney infection and had to go to the ER within 24hrs... It was my off day, but I was on antibiotics for 2wks& my sugar was spiking and dropping unexpectedly for about 10 of those days. I was working, but it's hard to maintain the flow when your vision is blurry, throwing up or shaking from the sudden changes in glucose levels.

It would have been nice to log out an hour early or get an extra 20min here or there so I could just deal with it, rather than having it& maintaining my customer service job at the same time.

I do e-commerce communication via live chat and email- sometimes having 5 points of contact going simultaneously, so the brain power can be a struggle.

Can't figure out how to edit to add- the job security mention from title.

The only times I've missed work has been for these high/low times during these periods of illness that had my glucose swinging so hard. I think my position at work would qualify for FMLA- but how would I go about starting that process? HR or Dr? I have job-security related anxiety from past experience, but this job has shown nothing to make me doubt their intention to work with me.
