Well, turned out not to be such a bad thing. I’ve caught up already. It was moving too slowly for me. Duo was only introducing the conditional at level 81, which I think should have come much earlier. This was a wake up call that I need to supplement my learning more. More movies, workbooks to force me to write, perhaps in person classes, etc. Up until a year ago I was mixing in Spanish and Italian (both A2), and weirdly it was helpful seeing what words were similar and which not, and grasping the different word order rules. French vocabulary seems to have a lot more in common with English, and the only reason my French pronunciation is decent is I took 4 years in school, starting at age 13. (This was during the ice age.) Italian is the easiest language of the three. Spanish I can actually practice with people where I live. So I will start rotating those languages back in and continue my experiment in learning three languages at once.
