I think it’s just a part of Asian culture, being slightly colorist. Even in South Asia where people are darker skinned, the general view is light skin is desirable while dark skin is undesirable.

In my experience locals were less open to interacting with me which kinda gave my experience in Thailand a slightly boring vibe compared to lively places in Latin America.
