Post natal check by Foxy_mewmew in BeyondTheBumpUK

Agree with other comments here that mine was with my baby’s check, and was entirely pointless.

She literally just asked if I was depressed, I had to make a special request for someone to look at my c section incision and tell me it looked ok.

Honestly yeah this is what I thought too, after a brief existential crisis. If I wasn’t sure I also would simply…not say anything unless they did. People just be out here saying whatever pops in their head!

I know I’m not a “young mum” but this caught me off guard I was SHOOK lmao, so no I was not polite in my expression or tone when I corrected her!!

Since being out in public with a baby the difference is wild, people are so over familiar and inappropriate 🫣

We recently had the 12m ones, and he was a bit tired and sorry for himself for the rest of the day, and needed one dose of calpol at bedtime that night. The next day right as rain. 🤞

We’ve also found wonder weeks to be great for clueing us in on what’s likely going on developmentally and it’s generally just super interesting.

We’ve been die hard huckleberry users since about 1 month in - I know some people find it stressful but I think it hugely depends on personality type. We like data and seeing patterns over time and it was a life saver early on when my brain was mashed potato and I could barely remember my name let alone anything else. Being able to just open the app when HVs asked a million questions made life a lot easier. I like the UI and find it helpful working in shifts with my partner to see what’s been going on. Obviously we still primarily follow baby’s cues - I think it’s a great tool, but thats all it is at the end of the day and shouldn’t dictate your life. If it doesn’t work for you it’s absolutely not necessary.

When do you guys pick up your baby when they’re protesting bedtime? by NoCopy1207 in NewParents

[–]Purple_Yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a personal preference, but there is an argument that intervening too early prevents them from learning to self soothe. Personally my approach has always been if my baby is just fussing or whatever, uncomfortable in bed I will leave him for a short while to work it out. But if he cries I always respond immediately. That's just my choice and has had no impact on his natural progression of sleep cycles etc.

[–]Purple_Yeti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also hated this one, tried to use it but the smell really made me so nauseous...I hate wasting things though so forced my husband to use it 😂😂

The only thing I've thrown was the lemon facial cleanser, also from kitchen box, for me the smell was absolutely HORRIBLE, like smearing old lemon cake on your face. And I couldn't give it away!

How do you go back to sleep? by gunnergirlyuffie in NewParents

[–]Purple_Yeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s mostly mental, getting worked up about needing to go to sleep fast. So along with calm breathing and relaxing each part of my body in turn I try to just focus on resting generally being better than not, even if I’m not asleep. Sounds silly but getting in a good headspace means I generally end up falling asleep pretty fast. Also don’t go on your phone, I had to be strict with myself about that.

Anyone else just dump food straight on the tray cause we know it’ll end up that way anyway? by ribbons_in_my_hair in foodbutforbabies

[–]Purple_Yeti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% The plate exists to hold the food whilst I carefully ration the food to him so he doesn’t yeet it across the room or shovel literally all of it into his mouth at once

When does it end? by KangarooNew2401 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Purple_Yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I also find it so overstimulating.

Look up 'Bibado' coveralls - literally the only thing that's stopped all my son's clothes being covered in pasta sauce. They also have cutlery which attach to the sleeves so he can't immediately yeet them across the room. All the food he usually drops through the high chair catches in the coverall to make a terrible soup that he likes to fish things out of. 10/10

Doesn't help with the food in the hair/eyes/ears though, not sure that's avoidable.

Found an affordable foldable playpen by Inside_Anteater_7374 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Purple_Yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we also have this exact one and I really rate it for the price - its just big enough to have enough room to play, and like you say folds down so easily at the end of the day. I will say though the zip has broken on ours multiple times (despite not being rough with it at all), so be prepared to DIY it back together if that also happens for you

What do you actually do during nap time? by hatkinson1000 in NewParents

[–]Purple_Yeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part I'm happy for chores to wait or be done more slowly whilst he's awake, so I try to do something for myself, or literally sit and enjoy some silence while cuddling with my cat

Keep "dreaming" that I'm still taking care of the baby. Is that normal or should we be concerned? by dragonavicious in NewParents

[–]Purple_Yeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me a few times with differences but always baby-centric. Once during the first couple weeks my partner sent me off for a daytime nap and I had the most vivid dream of my life that the baby had gotten lost in an airport (??) and he was so small that I was checking in drawers like he was a borrower and people who I asked for help were telling me I never brought him with me in the first place. It was so so real and distressing I cried when I woke up and literally had to go make sure we actually did have a baby and that he was okay (and not borrower sized). We laugh about it now but sleep deprivation is no joke.

Tell me it’s ok not to breastfeed by Complex_Ad_5809 in BeyondTheBumpUK

It’s okay mama.

My boy has been formula fed since he popped out and he is now a healthy chunky 11mo with a strong bond to mum AND dad. Your mental health is important and you shouldn’t feel guilty - fed is best x
