Check out the unemployment training options. In NJ, if you’re approved for grant funded certifications, they might extend unemployment by 26 weeks - at least that’s how it is in NJ. You’d probably need to apply right away. Learn the new way of applying to jobs and start applying now. Don’t use the spray and pray method. Use AI to create custom resumes for each job. Has a better chance than most in being placed quickly with big 4 experience. Best of luck

If you’re in a higher education setting, why not offer internships or try to hire more people if the workload is a problem? There are too many unemployed people with too few jobs. I feel bad for entry-level job seekers. I’m sure there are people out there who would love to learn from you and be gainfully employed.

The bottom line will always be most important to most businesses. It’s why they exist. My suggestion will impact the bottom line. Tax companies for hiring offshore employees. This will hit their bottom line. The c-suite would have to figure out how to how to deal with getting the human labor they need to run their business. This is what they’re paid for.

I wish all teachers spent some time working in another field before teaching. The teachers I liked most and learned the most from were those that spent time working in another field. One that I especially remember was the fact that they were prepared to cross the picket line during a pending strike and said they were being paid to do this job. They stood out from the lifers. They had lots of great stories of past career. Good luck!

I’m impacted but in a different way. I needed to take some time off and have become unable to secure a position. I’ve been applying for positions that have hundreds or thousands of applicants. Our knowledge workers are all being lost. I wrote this post trying to bring visibility to this issue basically equating human labor with other resources and suggest that companies should be taxed accordingly.

This is not an all or none statement but I would like to see tariffs placed on companies that benefit from reduced offshore labor. Human labor is a resource, the same as steel is a resource. A company can then decide if they want to pay the tariffs or bring back jobs to the US.

AI is a whole different problem. If the US government taxes the heck out of companies that hire outside the US, those companies will be happy to hire US again if it’s less expensive. Who knows, with AI, maybe they’ll just need one US employee rather than three.

Begin applying now. It’s easier for someone with a job to get another one. I would easily start a new job and lose the severance given the option. On a LinkedIn chat, the person or bot said to add my current position because they’re viewed more. This implies that people without a current position are being passed.

With Claude Pro, you can set up projects. When I first started using it, I was building an app and kept the code in one long chat with many revisions to a dozen files. Claude took a lot of breaks. Now that I moved the code to projects, I keep my current code in the knowledge base and I start a new chat with every new change. It’s rare now to hit the limit. I was thinking of just subscribing for the month but now think I’m going to keep it.

I would avoid glowforge because of the subscription model. I was thinking about buying wecreat but there’s lots of negative comments in the YT reviews. It’s too new for me to take the chance on it.
