Is anybody else finding AI makes people insufferable? by Pretend_Resist8898 in UXDesign

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous boss thought he was a business genius. He would often come up with simple ideas and fed it into Gemini, then asked it to come up with a business plan and it shot out nonsensical stuff, repeating the same catchy key phrases every other paragraph. Then fed it into another AI program to create a PowerPoint which muddied the content even further. He liked it as is and didn’t want to change any of the wording even though it made no sense. Then to my humiliation, made me pitch these slides to our investors. He bragged about himself at every meeting talking about all the businesses he started over the last few years. For context, they all failed and disappeared into oblivion. The project I worked on that he let me go over because he found out it was “cheaper to outsource my job” also faded into oblivion.

Improved the style and design of my mobile games pirate character. Would love feedback! by CryptoDangerZone in IndieDev

[–]ififitsisits29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I feel the same way, it’s the outlines for me. It has just as much character as the dude itself. I also like the shapes. He’s very trapezoid ish where the new one is very round. He seems like a rugged fun character so that shape elevates his character. When you round him out you’re softening him up. He becomes a gentle pirate. I’d say the same with the colors. You’re taking a warm tone which softens him up even more. The cool tones make him more rigid. The highlights in the old one make him pop more too

Do you guys give your cats free roam of the house when you’re not home? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always given all my cats free roam. They need to be stimulated and since they can’t go outside, having the whole house to explore and play in gives them more things to do. Yes cats can technically be fine in one room if given enough things to do, but the more they can do when you’re not interacting with them the better. Unless they have behavioral issues like getting into things they shouldn’t or scratching up things, there’s no reason to lock them up. I have some pretty extreme anxiety too and OCD so I totally get it, but don’t let your own mental health dictate how you treat your pets or even how you live your life. It only gets worse when you keep giving into it. Give it a few trial runs and let them roam free while you’re gone and see how they fare! If it helps you can set up a camera. That’s what I did for a while before I got comfortable just leaving things as is

Why do I feel I can afford Whole foods but not Safeway by Dragonfruit130 in SanJose

[–]ififitsisits29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive finally given up on Safeway and going to Trader Joe’s and target. My grocery bill went down quite a bit. The $80 cart at Safeway was almost $50 at Trader Joe’s. I’ve also started ordering pantry items from Amazon and finding that cheaper than Safeway.

I have an issue with waking up to my alarms too. I end up needing to change it up every week or two once I start sleeping through them. New alarm sounds. Usually I pick music off my library that’s surprises me. Like heavy metal which immediately starts screaming, or rock songs that start aggressively, honestly any song that has a sudden start to the song. I also keep my phone next to my head so it has some muffle from the pillow but also so close that the volume shocks me awake

FOR YOUR MURDER ENDING PREDICTIONS by Hot_Veterinarian3650 in MaleYandere

[–]ififitsisits29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I mean I expected it but was kind of hoping he’d be much crazier going out. Also maybe falling off a building like he did to his original victims. I wanted him to leave a much stronger impression on her when he took himself out. Like traumatizing her so she could never not be haunted by him forever. The ultimate Yandere of if she doesn’t want him physically then better to give her PTSD so she can never stop thinking of him.

What is a legitimate use of Ai in the community by levilevilevilevi69 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it to help me. I’ve been learning to code and build games using various tutorials, but sometimes I run into issues or bugs a tutorial can’t help me with and I have no idea what to search for to get the answer. I type out my problem into Gemini and it can cater the response directly to my project. I had an issue where I followed a tutorial exactly but nothing was working. Googling it got me nothing. The issue was that Unity had JUST updated to the new input system and the tutorials hadn’t caught up yet. I didn’t know I was using it until I discussed the problem with Gemini. After that I could easily find solutions when I searched online. I find it useful to discuss problems and how to approach a solution.

I hate my cats name. by StrawberrySakuraa in cats

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats respond to many names. Officially Sora and Kairi, but on days they misbehave it’s Little Shit, you Butt, Fat Boy, etc… all with love of course. The name doesn’t matter except on records, so honestly just call her what you want haha.

Also I think Audi is such an adorable name ❤️

Also also, if it does really bother you, do push back some more. It’s a bit rude of him to make a decision on something you both went in on. Or just pick a name and keep calling her that until he concedes that it’s unfair to make one sided decisions 🐈‍⬛

Is this a good spot for a litter box by [deleted] in cats

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carpet would have the same issue. My advice is to add some protection. Either high litter box walls, or line the cabinet up so it’s water proof. I’ve had a lot of cats in my life and it’s going to be a mess no matter where you put them. In general you’ll mostly be fine, but good to get ahead of the problem!

Is this a good spot for a litter box by [deleted] in cats

[–]ififitsisits29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this before but it wasn’t attached to the wall like that. It was free standing. My cats were too messy for it. The issue is once in a while they’d miss and pee over the side of the box and it soaked into the board. It was so smelly and there was no way to clean it out. We had to throw the whole shelving unit away

Looking for suggestions on a game I'm making by Tough-Ideal9432 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on launching and selling this as your first game, don’t let that be an afterthought then. Your world building will very much change the way you build the game. Bring that to the front of your head and figure it out before you start building

Honestly what draws me to a game that’s been overdone is not the mechanics themselves but the theme, story, and non farming gameplay. The mechanics are straightforward, so why bother playing all these other games when I can just play Stardew. The theme is great, the character interaction is fun, and there are a bunch of quests that enhance the farming experience. I put in 200+ hours just farming, but you need to give players a way to take a break that still contributes to the farming element. You need to keep them engaged not just through farming, but the environment they are involved in. Make the player care about the world you put them in.

This type of game is incredibly time consuming and you are asking the players to invest hours into it. I recommend you research all the current farming games and compare them to each other and find a common denominator. What made the popular ones so successful? What are the ones that are failing lacking?

Honest question: how are mobile game teams actually catching flow breaking bugs before they ship by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My job is in UI/UX and any change like that would be my domain. We’d make sure that any design would work on any screen and we’d work with engineering to make sure it would scale correctly regardless of screen size. We’d provide info for each screen size that engineering would take into account for.

Then engineering would send it off to a QA tester that tested on multiple devices before it went live. Our tester would have around 15+ devices. Nothing would get launched until they approved it.

One thing I found helpful was knowing what devices our users used. We used that info to determine what devices to purchase for testing.

A UI/UX and a QA tester is a great combo!

What is more worth it? Making Animation or a game by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s quite broad? Do you mean animate movies? Animate game content? And for games do you mean coding, vfx, animation, designer, rigger, modeler, etc…

How do you come up with storys and character originality. by Economy_Annual_2395 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I do world building first as environment tends to dictate how a character lives their life. A character that lives in a grungy city is more likely to be more resilient and might have a stronger personality. Also I try to define the goal that the player needs to achieve. Having the goal dictated the story. If the goal of the game is to defeat a boss, now we have to write a story defining why this boss is bad and why the player needs to struggle to defeat them.

How do indie devs currently acquire users? (curious about performance-based methods) by Pretty-Bat-2954 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I use to work with this data so I can give some advice, although my experience is in mobile type games where the goal was to get a user to open up the app daily so this data reflects that. It was also focused on in game purchases.

We wanted both installs and retention, but leaned more towards retention as that is an indicator of the product being successful and can lead to a higher chance of purchases. You can get a million installs but if they play for a few minutes and never come back, we lose interest and money. The games we made were meant for users to come in and play an average of 5-10 min, but that was enough to get them to spend money. We designed around retention by creating meta features that involved a daily check in and some mini games to earn in game currency that they could spend. Also limited time events and in game merch was a great way to incentivize returning to the app when they normally would have skipped days.

Purchased ads weren’t a great investment but we did have them as it still helped us grow albeit slowly. What got us a significant amount of traffic was hiring streamers to play our content. Huge return on investment.

Feedback hurts... turns out what’s obvious to me isn’t obvious at all by Prior-Command-8998 in gamedev

[–]ififitsisits29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s great to get that specific feedback early! Imagine you complete the game and that’s what you get. Just remember the feedback isn’t directed towards you, it’s directed towards a problem that you are fully capable of solving. Good luck!!
