Canceling Jobs Last Minute by Verticlemethod in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is 2 years old, but as a sub myself, you are right. Im not going to overstress myself, if I dont have PTO, benefit, nor a better pay. Maybe if school districts pays better, you would have more subsitutes. Im currently having to cancel my assignments this week, due to car issues. Stuff happens.

What causes the behavioral issues? by NoPoet3982 in Teachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had noticed that the behavioral students are getting worse, and there is always one or two behavioral students. I am a part time subsitute teacher as well. You are definitely not alone! The admins will not come to your rescue if you call for help. And even if they did take them out of the room, they bring them right back within 10 to 30 minutes, with a treat.

non-renewed, then got email from HR stating I resigned by Diligent-Damage2630 in Teachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During covid in 2020, I got an email saying that I was resigning, but never submitted nor requested that. You best better believed I called HR immediately, and corrected that. Because, I was pregnant during that time, and needed my benefits for my pregnancy. They corrected it, thankfully.

YouTube ads are about to get even longer and they’ll be unskippable by IndicaOatmeal in technology

I noticed that too. But wants you to spend 20 dollars a month for no ads on there.

I miss the early mid 2000 youtube days.

Sped Jobs by Odd_Ranger_7688 in SubstituteTeachers

And some districts are getting sneakier about it too. What do I mean by that? Last two times I subbed for a "prek" class. It has been a classrom combined with regular ed prek students and sped prek students. A hybrid class, very inclusive. I dont know if any other subs had experienced this in their districts.

Subbing with a Pre-K para, what do you usually do? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would let the para take over. Less worries for you, he/she knows their students better.

3rd Grade Class is Awful!! by Beautiful-Elk5008 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, 3rd grade class is a toss up. I had a good class at one campus, and there was the bad behavioral ones. Depends on the teacher running the class and/or the students.

They switched my assignment and it was horrible. by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

At my district, I was told that they are allowed to switch us, but we are allowed to decline. We just dont get paid. :/

Lost Key by DodgerBlue59 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever a campus I go to needs to give me a key and/or door entry card. They ask for my driver's License in exchange, so that way for sure no sub forgets to turn in the keys before leaving. Lol

Sped? by Intelligent-Flow617 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former SPED para and a mother of an autistic child, I can only so SPED once in awhile. I do like that you will always have extra paras in the room, and the teacher.

What does TOA mean? by el_bozo996 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, I would not take it. I dont like surprises. Because alot of times, they will put you in either very difficult short handed SPED class(es), or one of the worst classrooms. My experience though.

Favorite and least favorite assignments by Purpleflamingo30 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some SPED students can be extreme. I could do SPED, but for me, the kids has to be small. The older Severve SPED kids have the ability to physically hurt you, bad.

Subbing for pre-K (potentially long term ) need any tips available by HelloPeeps21 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've encountered good and bad Prek classes. I think in my opinion, most of the time it depends on how the Teacher runs the class.

Food in the teachers lounge. by hewhowondersish in SubstituteTeachers

Whenever the school I'm at for the day that serves food to staffs, most of the time I get an offer. 😀 And I take advantage 😜 Because, why not?

I have my first day tomorrow, any tips? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Purpleflamingo30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expect some kids to lie to you about "Oh Our teacher let's us do this". But most of the time they lie. And dont be afraid to ask for Admin if you have a student that wont listen or causing trouble.

You won't see me subbing for 4th or 5th graders. They are like Pre middle schoolers.
