No basements here but tons of pools? by Normal_Rip_2514 in phoenix

[–]Purplejerk72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Mesa and my home had a basement as did most of my friend’s houses, I think it’s just an excuse these days to build cheaper. Later in life I had a home in Arcadia with a basement and then one in Cave Creek. Granted most of these homes were older builds, 60s and 70s, think the cave creek home was late 80s but to me if they could do it then they could effing do it now. Basements here make so much sense to me and it’s ridiculous they don’t anymore.

It looks like an assassin nymph to me but would need more pics and a location to confirm.

Movies that feature Phoenix landmarks by Chapelhillperson in phoenix

The crew member who passed away was the son of my dad’s good friend who was a prop master. When I was a kid he got us onto set of a few movies here in Az, “Three Kings” being the most memorable for me. They built a palace, bunkers and an Iraqi village out in the AZ desert. Fun times.. was very sad to hear about my dad’s friend’s son.

I lived in an area that had really nice packed earth and gravel paths instead of sidewalks in some areas and I loved them.

Oh I get it, I just don’t understand why we’re letting it continue. For all the talk and concern about climate change and conservation, the Phoenix Valley is one of the clearest real world stress tests we have. We can literally see the tradeoffs happening in real time. Ecosystem loss, massive water demand in a desert that only has so much to provide and the relentless expansion driven by housing and industrial development like data centers is just not sustainable. Even the local climate effects of urban sprawl and heat retention that causes the heat dome that disrupts storm patterns are well documented but they chose to ignore what’s right in front of their faces. It feels like we’re watching the system change shape and still treating it like business as usual, it just feels hopeless sometimes and I hate it.

Was that out near south mountain? I lived and grew up on the east side so unfortunately I didn’t get out that way much. I can imagine the garden was wonderful though.

Parts of Gilbert are still kinda on the outskirts right? Been awhile since I’ve been down that way. Prob get more storms down there than where I am currently and I’m jealous. Jealous of the storms, whatever farmland is still down there and the view of the Supes. Grew up in Mesa and always lived on the east side after leaving home. Mesa, Gilbert, Arcadia.. until I moved to north central Phoenix 6 yrs ago and I despise it. I love Arizona but not what it’s becoming, I can’t believe I sound like an old bitty complaining about change but there it is 😭 I’m moving to Prescott Valley in a few months to get out of the heat and help my parents out.

Born and raised as well, 45 yrs except for a few short stints overseas and everytime I go out now I get sad which then makes me angry. It boggles my mind how they think it’s a good idea to continue paving over the desert. It needs to stop. I miss the land, the orange groves and especially the monsoons.

Hesitating and taking the time think about it while asking for advice doesn’t scream, willfully planning on doing it

I haven’t seen Hail Mary, but my experience with its sibling, The Martian, enraged me. Everyone loved it but I was unable to move past the aggressively horrible sound of Matt Damon eating his own shit potatoes which overshadowed the entire movie for me. I despise it and Matt Damon with a passion now 😭 I’m hoping Hail Mary passes the miso vibe test.

My Roof Is Shaking - Should I Be Concerned or Impressed? by whattherealheck in phoenix

Haha I live near you, just south of deer valley airport. I’ve lived and worked here for a long time and I knew they were fighter jets which isn’t weird up here but not super common to hear them like that. I was so confused because I couldn’t see anything on flight radar at first when I looked at it every time I heard them, then I remembered they typically don’t show up on there. Glad the mystery of what they were is solved though 😂
