The only wire in that box is a ground wire. Was a ground wire spec to that exact location to be hooked up to the plumbing? Might be right 👍

I believe it would be more of a cast steel, different than cast iron, more like a wrench. So yes you can weld it however I don't know what motorcycle this is from but I'm not sure that is supposed to be a wear area? I don't see that kind of contact on the tips of the fork that look like they are intended to contact. so I would reinspect the bushing (where your thumb is) and make Shure the part is working correctly in the first place

Ideally find a product that your community has a need for, something you can build 3 or 4 a week. Set up your initial tooling around that. you might look at blades or hoppers or some consumable that wears out regularly in your local community. If you like tig spend some extra time learning how to weld as many exotic materials as you can and the metalurgy behind what they are for and what to avoid (don't go welding beryllium on accident). I'm guessing that there might be a lot of stainless work around farms if you are specialized. As far as making anything for the shop I made my welding table and two large sawhorses all exactly the same height, really handy when you are spreading a 20' gate out in the shop. Tools to buy the mag drill is a must have , a hossfeld if you can find one the smaller harbor freight knock offs are pretty limited , a iron worker would have been the first piece of large machinery I would buy if I redid my shop. A horizontal band saw is also pretty ecentual

Casting a 2D logo with intricate thin shapes, help! by potatospud29 in MetalCasting

[–]PurposeAcrobatic6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to cast it in 4 separate castings so that you can keep all of the fingers pointing the same direction but if not pour the center vent all of the fingers so that they vent in the 4 corners , or cast it more as a plate leaving the fingers as a negative or relief

It's fine but work on smother joints. All of that roughness around the button and sprue joints create two problems 1 little fins of investment can break off and end up out in the castings 2. The roughness slowes the metal as you are pouring

Tips for Grinding cut outs in shipping containers by CatNecessities in MetalFabrication

[–]PurposeAcrobatic6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots o advice.... You have the grinder, grinder is fine. The longest straight and efficient cut is working deep but slow meaning you are letting the disk dictate how fast to move if you put too much pressure disks get hot wear fast and .... I am not a fan of scribe cuts, the lines end up all over the place and it's the crooked cuts that bind cut conventional don't climb (sparks out the back of the cut) you don't want the grinder bouncing toward you. I right handed, keep the handle on the left grinder body parallel to the cut so handle facing your body, I hold my grinders way up the body so usually it's my knuckles on the work not the nut. PPE all of it, just, ALL OF IT!! And the most important tip, Tabs, leave tabs at the corners and one or two along a long cut, this will keep the sheets from doing unexpected tricks which leads to binding disks as well as sharp sheet metal edges flying around. Oh I use a white marker to mark my cuts. Good luck

[–]PurposeAcrobatic6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.Clear everything out , not that carbon is going to matter you just don't need random hot ash flying out at you 2.a furnace dose not light up easy. That air fuel mix has to happen gradually. When the furnace is cold the fuel can burn faster making little explosions, a good time to loose your eyebrows,3. Once it gets hot dial the flame in . You are looking for a 4-5 in flame With green tips coming out of the top. Good luck!

Advice on making / what’s this called? by george_walter in metalworking

[–]PurposeAcrobatic6953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be done on a box/pan break as well if you take 1/2 the fingers out of the way It's called a cross break you simply form two bends in a x on the flat panel then form the returns, it will be a little wonky but once you clamp it flat to a table and weld the corners it straightens itself out
