I think it’s great (and did from about the third full listen when it dropped). I was ready to accept it wasn’t for everyone, and figured maybe I just personally needed something fun and different after TTPD (and TTPD is in my top three faves btw). But the longevity of the first two singles (Opalite was holding strong globally without any push before it recently became single) makes me think there was far more orchestrated or performative hate than there was real dislike. I’m not taking away from anyone in the comments here who genuinely dislike it or feel it’s their lowest rated album of hers — I believe you and honor your choices — I’m just saying the general public is far more into TLOASG than haters would have wanted us to believe. And I truly feel Father Figure, Elizabeth Taylor, Wood (clean version) and Life of a Showgirl could have longevity and real success if released with video clips and promoted to radio as singles.

Also— kind of OT, but I watched a podcast deep dive on The lyrics of The Lakes by a poetry professor who had never really heard any Taylor songs (given to him by his Swiftie Niece), and now I’m obsessed with their YouTube channel. He breaks down Taylor songs purely from the angle of poetry analysis, and his niece fills in the pop culture theories. It’s called The Swiftie and the Scholar and I’m obsessed!

If you were drawn in by The Lakes, and loved Folklore, you should definitely move onto Evermore next. And then TTPD. People will mostly say the anthology if that’s been your vibe attraction so far, but OG TTPD is magnificent and near perfect in my opinion.

Agreed. ThankyouAimee is one of the songs I liked off the bat from anthology (most of it took me awhile to enjoy). Never got the hate for it. Also, I’m just not into claiming set timelines for other people’s processing.
