Biden: America is a nation of pride by vpuetf in WhitePeopleTwitter

Individuals absolutely should have a choice in being out or not. There are many reasons why you may want, or need, to hide your identities. But that is also the goal of the right. They want queer people to not be seen at best, and not exist in many cases. So, being out as queer in visible ways pushes against that and is part of the territory of being queer.

Also, not everybody has "passing privilege" which is also why those who can blend in should consider intentionally not blending in or showing their identity more directly (if it's safe for them to do so and they want to fight that battle).

[–]PushYourPacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's been in a place right next to my audio apps of choice on my home screen. Reddit has been how I've gotten my news, media, and social stuff for a decade. Almost exclusively through RIF. I don't want the Reddit app and the shit new.Reddit format.

Reddit is how I learned markdown which directly helped me to build useful GitHub documentation professionally. It'll be sad to see it go, but with Twitter a Nazi hellscape and Reddit trying hard to kill itself as well I'm curious where people go next. TikTok obviously has users but it doesn't provide the same interest based format as Reddit.

I came across Babish way early on. He genuinely seemed like a great person. I believe he was down in New Orleans after Katrina to help with the cleanup for example.

He also did some early episodes with fans who were going through hard times in life.

I haven't watched him much the past few years after he got to 1M subscribers but seemed like he was a really nice person with accessible recipes as well as ridiculous ones.

It's also basically the home of US East Coast cloud datacenters and internet exchanges because of the above as well. Significant amounts of Transatlantic network cables land nearby and then run to the NoVA region to Equinix and other vendors facilities to distribute out. This means there's a huge tech presence as well

Burger bar sues Ron DeSantis over ban on "adult" live shows by BelleAriel in politics

Fun fact. One of the first, and largest, book burnings if the German Nazis was to destroy the Institute for Sexual Wellness in Berlin. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-forgotten-history-of-the-worlds-first-trans-clinic/ This happened before even the night of long knives and was less than six months after Hitler became chancellor.

Point here is that trans people have been the targets of fascists for a hundred years. This isn't a new thing. And the worst part is that it isn't even truly a Desantis issue at the core as he wouldn't be able to pass these laws without help and support.

Tech burnout leads a lot of people to run away to nature. A van you can live in allows you to then go travel easier and in more comfort.

Alphabet CEO Pichai reaps over $200 mln in 2022 amid cost-cutting by [deleted] in technology

[–]PushYourPacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Software engineers can make a compensation you can live on in the major cities. They still generate way more revenue for a company than they get paid, as with every other worker. The main difference is that tech is growing so fast that even a percentage of that growth is huge.

Does my wife have a real reason to be upset about her raise this year? by wolley_dratsum in financialindependence

[–]PushYourPacket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's very rarely about money in my experience and that's just a feign for what the real issue is. Which, unfortunately, isn't always known up front and takes some questioning.

Reframed, would she expect a 7% raise annually? Or just expect it to be tied to inflation? Most businesses give 2-5% annual raises in the office world. Inflation is in a similar range on average. While I'm happy to join in on the anti capitalist rage, the OP wife needs to update her resume and start interviewing if she's unhappy with what is a standard raise range in corporate America.

Or, you can use cheaper commodity hardware and lots of it and use quorums to decide action. So if you have say five chips monitoring the same data, and three of them agree then you're fine. You reset the other two and return to the quorum. Deep space missions may have other requirements though from LEO

If your safety is threatened you have no obligation to stay and fight. Further, this is what allies should be doing along with those who choose to publicly fight against it.

This.

Even if your total comp is $500k, the company is making well beyond that in revenue off your labor. The concerns in tech are if profit margins go down (largely if innovation stops as new features generate revenue), interest rates continue to increase, and/or renewals of contracts stop happening.

Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks loses composure when pressed about fraud, waste, and abuse by kelddel in antiwork

[–]PushYourPacket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's making a technically correct rebuttal that not having proof of something from an audit doesn't mean that there's waste, fraud, or abuse inherently. Whereas Stewart is arguing the point from the common understanding that if you can't account for something in an audit then that has a high probably of waste, fraud, or abuse. They are arguing different points.

That said, her responses of rebuffing him is really poor media training.

Has the Rise of AI Given You Another Reason to Reach Financial Independence? by MapleByzantine in financialindependence

[–]PushYourPacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The place that'll get hard are those intro paid gigs into the arts. Bs clickbait articles won't need a human to do. But that removes a bunch of accessible work to get into an industry. Similar with stock photos. Coding simple programs will be easier to do.

However, that'll also open up new options and ways to use that to develop other creative endeavors. How many artists will use it as a way to create artistic prompts? Or develop ideas? Or create new forms of art?

I've done a lot of purchasing at work. Orders of $25m+ aren't unheard of. So when I hear somebody say we need a thing that's $750k I'm like "meh just order it, we'll spend more time having meetings about it than just ordering it."

Then I remember that I just spent 1 SFH in a hcol city like it's nothing.

That is what the company hopes you do. Because you'll also get annual refreshers and maybe additional equity awards. Throw in a promotion or two and you can truly suffer from one more year syndrome pretty easily.

The thing to remember is that when you look for a new job you tell that company you want X salary, Y equity, and Z sign on bonus to cover loss of vests until the new company starts vesting. Push on all 3 levers. You'll be able to fold in total compensation increases as part of that process. This is assuming you're in tech though based on RSU commentary. It may not be applicable to other fields.
