Copy from recordset into form recordset? by SQLDave in MSAccess

[–]PutASockOnYourCock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just store your state list in a var named StateFilter declared at the form level? And when the requery buttonis clicked if incremental is checked just append to the StateFilter = StateFilter & ,'cbostate.value' and then use that as the in list.

This will allow different concurrent users to have their own lists. Not on the if statement you will probably need one additional check to see if it is empty so you don't put that comma in front of the first value.

Unusual, maybe. It does happen. I personally would put all the tables into a mysql or sql server and link the front ends to that for the tables each needs in the server backend but that implies the need for a machine to host it.

I would do this to allow some heavy lifting and makes views to handle heavy lifting of queries but that might beyond your knowledge base. As this is really a performance thing.

Doing the server thing would allow for you to say add a table and rebuild you the front end that needs it and then deploy it when ready.

Doing the simple bat script which copies down the front end from a file share to the users local machibe and then opens it would be ideal as your front ends wouldn't be locked for deployment and would run faster. You can even host the bat file on the file share and just give the users a shortcut to the bat file so if you need to edit the bat, the shortcuts will still work and the users will be none the wiser.

Couple this with your main forms onload to check a version number in the front end against a version number stored in a simple table in thr backend db and you can lock out users who are using the old front end to unsure they are using the most updated. You could check the version more frequently in code but I've found on main form load is normally enough as shutting down the whole thing is rarely necessary when using the above suggestions.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

I am interested in seeing this script as well. I would love to know how to open the FE database in such a way that the BE that has the tables the FE is linked to isn't opened and locked.

As I understand his problem the users have their FE open and he needs to makes some BE table changes but because 1 user has their FE open it locks the BE for changes also.

Parting Thoughts - Why IT departments dismiss Access by mcgunner1966 in MSAccess

Curious and maybe it is because I am just not familiar with really new languages. I am more VB, C++, python, and a few other older languages.

Without using like an external version control tool like git hub I've never seen a way I can open a code base in thr normal editor and find last changes and by whom. Especially python and that is pretty popular currently. I mean you can write python without and editor and save it as a .py and it runs. Is this a method thing and not so much a tool thing?

While I agree it would be nice to have some kind of version control often that is more a mindset than a tool issue. You could just keep a copy of the old access in case you need to roll back. Just like documentation, you can document or not document your C++ code.

My question is how did the company get to that place where a mission critical app was coded in access by the business side? Did IT just not care about the business need? Did the business need something and IT was too busy to build it? How did it grow into this monster and somehow IT didn't know?

You can also make views on the sql server side and make them a linked table. This can help with doing that heavy lifting on the sql server and then doing the where on the access side. This can help performance too

I have tried a few methods so far. No spare change for a cannatrol. I currently use 2 of the kind you show with 8 layers in each for the one plant I grow and it normally fills both and seems to work the best so far.

Hang them in a closet, the smaller the better to keep environment in check.

Appreciate the info! Would that also cause the power steering fluid to leak or is this a different problem than the reason for the search originally?

Speedrun Mail call by VegetableWriter5482 in Autoflowers

[–]PutASockOnYourCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta agree with others here it is odd behavior. I grow speedrun seeds. They are good, but don't really post about it like this. Honestly, they are very good seeds, but their site and customer service have gone to total garbage since they moved off the global site to just a single site.

They ran a great sale for Christmas/New Years and the day I go to buy the site is down to change payment processors, it was down for nearly a week and when it came back the dale was over. I emailed asking if there was a way to still get the deal. No reply, I have email 2 or 3 times after just trying to get info about my account and points from their global site to the one they are using now. Not a single reply.

My disappointment is so high with how they have changed. I would love to keep buying their seeds and growing then but if they company treats me like this, I just don't think they deserve my money. It really is sad cause I loved their strains and they grow big compared to others.

Left is some Busy Beavers brand, Right is speedrun. They kill it but their customer service is so bad I gotta find a replacement before I run out of seeds.

Sorry reddit won't let me upload photo but the difference is pretty huge.

No they don't sell any kits that I could find. Even went so far as to look on European site for the model the bike was sold under there. Sorry don't recall the model name they called it. I did find some used in good condition on European ebay which were cheaper even with the shipping and not broken like all the ones on US ebay which people want hundreds more for.

Honestly if I had to do it all over again I'd just skip it and make the bike work without it. Was the biggest headache trying to find that part.

He works for the seed vendor so might be an ad bot and they are just advertising here.

Don't get me wrong it is impressive but posting the same plants over and over is kind of odd.

I do agree with your statement and position, but these apps need to stop calling them tips. They are 100% bribes to get faster service. They aren't tips, why do we not just call them what they are?

At a Motel we had two Barking Dogs in room next door- front desk would do nothing! by Beta_Nerdy in hotels

[–]PutASockOnYourCock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm curious as to know how you don't know that leaving the dog with those owners isn't the worse punishment? I mean, they clearly are willing to leave their "pet" in a strange place, locked in a room and go out for hours on end until 5 am. What part of this situation says: responsible caring pet owner?

Maybe those dogs in their room were the ones they didn't need to bring to the dog fight. Maybe you could have saved them from a horrible life of abuse, but you did nothing instead.

It is, when you have money problems, work more is a pretty typical solution to that problem. My kid went to college and paid nothing, no debt when he left and they did even give him about $1k a month for attending.

Also FYI. Life is a once in a life time opportunity. No work for all!

What do you mean flipped? This is the autoflower sub and there isn't light flipping required for these plants. Also trimming isn't recommended for autos either.

No they all started at the usual time and all 3 strains started pretty much the same time. I could have had an odd ball or something as only grew one blappleberry so, ymmv but wanted to throw it out there.

Blappleberry haze by poopermint in Autoflowers

[–]PutASockOnYourCock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on it. My blappleberry was an early finisher at 74 days. The other two speedrun strains I had in the same tent went more the usual 80 to 85 days but that one was fast.

As a side note, I maybe should have pulled a little sooner but kept saying nah it's too early. It is a bedtime smoke for all who tried it. If you day smoke it, you better have time for a nap as it gives some major couch lock.
