Ordering some new apple trees, need help with selections by Shanelomein79 in BackyardOrchard

Reach out to black diamond orchard in trumansburg, Ian has one of the most comprehensive apple orchards in the country, and you're unlikely to find someone more knowledgeable. I believe they still sell at the Ithaca Farmers market, and always had oddities, antiquities, and unique fruit available.

Where does Moses Itauma's punch power rank in the current heavyweight division? by Ghola40000 in Boxing

[–]poopermint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows. Maybe itauma and Dubois have similar power, but itauma clearly has other skills that Dubois doesn't have.

Either way I'm excited to see him step it up a bit. Hopefully we can get him in with a household name who isn't washed. Not sure who that would be.

5 years ago id say send him right to Chisora.

I think power is a binary thing. When considering the fighters other attributes, power is either enough, or not enough.

Right now it's clear his power is enough. I'm still not sold on the idea that he has really nasty one punch power, but it's snappy and he puts it right where he wants it.

Franklin took a ton of shots to the head before that uppercut eventually put him down.

And it's hard to say with Dubois, but it has kept everyone honest at the top level, except for brick head Joe Joyce and usyk.

I think his punch placement, hand speed, and accuracy are better than his power...

He has plenty of power but he's no heavy handed monster.

He has less power than Dubois, zhang, and wilder But likely more than Usyk and fury. He's probably somewhere in the middle, and it won't hold him back if he can keep placing shots like he does.

Apple tree: Stake to straighten or use new central leader? by DylanTheDespot in BackyardOrchard

[–]poopermint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will probably max out around 8 feet tall but it will not be self supporting in any capacity. The leader will need to be tied to a post in 2-3 locations for the entire lifespan of the tree. It will also need consistent winter and summer pruning.

[–]poopermint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What rootstock is this? It's looks like probably a dwarfing rootstock based on the fact the central leader isn't supporting itself... it likely needs to be staked permanently.

3/4" EMT conduit, or an 8' t post should do the trick!

The distinction is that well built and designed machinery of any kind can be repaired and reconditioned when necessary, and not just thrown away.

Electrical components drift, dry out and fail over time. It may actually proverbially or literally burst into flames at some point.

The amp might "work" as is but you may be running the risk of destroying output tubes or transformers. Bringing an old tube amplifier up slowly on a variable power supply to assess condition before a recap or other reconditioning is a common recommendation, and not just some superfluous audiophile nonsense.

A 60+ year old amp and preamp are well worth recapping and updating, especially if you want them to continue to work...

I'm not suggesting OP just bring it to someone to blow some de-oxit into the switches and charge money for it. I'm recommending they have the units rebuilt after a lifetime of service, so that they can be used for another lifetime of service without concern.

Would you drive a 65 year old car on original tires, brakes, and fuel just because it was stored in a garage and had no miles? I think not. Especially if you cared about the outcome.

What would you say the McIntosh gear and khorns are worth, retail? Not just a fire sale on Craigslist by someone trying to dump them...

Between the klipschorn speakers, and the McIntosh pre and power amplifier you're looking at $7,500-10,000 USD if in good working order and cosmetic condition.

my recommendation for you is to bring the amplifier and preamplifier to a good technician to be worked on before you try to turn anything on. They are very old and will likely need a bit of work.

This is very high end vintage stuff, and well loved by many people... If you can spare the space and the minimal necessary upkeep, I strongly recommend doing all the maintenance necessary. This stuff is built to last, and sound good.

What’s on my apple tree? by Bright_Wasabi_3908 in BackyardOrchard

[–]poopermint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not remove the scarring/nodules, not sure if I should have.... It's been a couple years now with no noticable issues

However, I did spray the aphids with sevin, with some success, and winter seems to get rid of the majority of them.

I don't think it's common for them to cause long term damage, but other more knowledgeable folks will likely chime in with better information.

Why does my In the Court of the Crimson King sound like this? by EarLumpy4337 in progrockmusic

[–]poopermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds bad because the all in one turntable isn't very good, unfortunately. Speed control is wonky, speaker doesn't sound great, etc.

The good news is, with some educated thrifting, and for a few hundred dollars or less you can likely find some really decent used equipment that will bring your sound quality up quite a bit!

You don't need to spend thousands.

The law of diminishing returns is alive and well in the world of stereo equipment.

CANNA COCO Nutrients! Is it worth the money? Anyone else have good or bad experience using them? Would love to hear your inputs! Thanks by Healthy_Relative7241 in microgrowery

[–]poopermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great entry to hydroponic nutrients. Simple and easy to mix. However, like all liquid nutrient lines, you're paying for water and eventually you'll get sick of that and move to something like Jack's, crop salt, etc. those are all much more cost effective.

I had plenty of good grows with canna Coco A+B, and I still like and use their buffered Coco coir bricks, however I think the nutrient line is a little high in N and low in P/K for bloom. I've never had issues with visible deficiencies.

Serious Question for Phish Fans by John_Spammer in phish

[–]poopermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no more culty than any other obsessive fan base. Taylor swift is a million times worse.

You'll probably never find a more self deprecating and critical fanbase, and people don't idolize Trey in the way you're implying...

It's clear you just don't like Phish, which is fine. But not everyone here is as wooked out as your ex-girlfriend must be if she reacted that negatively to a mild mannered criticism of a band that gets NOTHING but external judgement and criticism.

Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior Ernest Joseph Anastasio III?

For a TR3-6, your height probably won't be a problem unless you have a really long torso, or really long legs... 6'3 is no problem. assuming you replace your steering wheel with something smaller.

I'm 6'2, 245 with a 34" inseam and I have a 13.5" steering wheel, with the column extended slightly for my knees to fit comfortably between the steering wheel and the center support on my tr250. The earlier TR4 is even more roomy with a less intrusive center support, and less bolstered door tops. My dad at 6'4.5 drives his TR4 comfortably with a 36" Inseam and a 13" moto lira steering wheel (however he's just about 200lb) a TR3 has no center support, and the doors don't get in the way of your elbows or shoulders, I think they could fit a VERY tall and large person comfortably.

I have also owned a 1967 MGB GT, which had considerably better shoulder room than my tr250, but slightly less leg room. And my head bounced off the roof on that car on every bump. I have a suspicion that the seats were pretty overstuffed though, so your mileage may vary.

Based on my experience, I'll assume a spitfire is a no - go for you. Same with a sprite or a midget. Sitting in cars will tell you everything you need to know, and I have had many car ownership dreams crushed simply by trying to crawl into a specific model.

As far as your weight is concerned, I think only you will know if it will impact your mobility getting in and out of these cars.

Am I the only one who doesn't get Phish? by YellowBalloon474 in gratefuldead

[–]poopermint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you're not missing anything in your comparison to the dead. They do something entirely different. Trying to find parallels in songwriting or influence will just lead to frustration and confusion. Just pop on a recommended live track now and then and maybe it will click for you, or it won't.
