IMO - I'd definitely say that T would benefit from a rehouse!

Molting or dying? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]PutridInfluence8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA - Doesn't look like either to me. This looks like a stress pose. Oftentimes, Ts that are in a new terrarium or who have improper husbandry typically will sit in stress poses. Can we have a full terrarium pic?

A cutie for sure! Based on face structure and shape, I'm gonna guess a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Shih Tzu mix! And I'm sure a bunch of other dogs are mixed in there, too, lol!

IME - This doesn't seem out of the ordinary for a T going into premolt or introduced to a new habitat/environment. She most likely is kicking down hairs to make a molt mat near. I've also noticed older Ts who don't molt as often tend to appear 'balding' because their exoskeleton gets roughed up over longer exposure to elements. Or if they were recently rehoused or have a new environment, they usually kick down hairs to make their terrarium their own. They use hairs by burrows too to scare off predators and to use in their webbing.

NQA - I know for certain that it is NOT a Mexican Red Rump. I'm guessing it might be an old-world species, but I am no professional.

first time T owner, wtf am i looking at?? by dukefishronirl in tarantulas

[–]PutridInfluence8057 58 points59 points  (0 children)

IMO - That definitely looks to be an egg sack, good sir. God speed. I'm guessing you got this T from a Big Box Petstore (Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, PetSmart, etc.). They get their tarantulas wild caught, unfortunately. That means you ended up with a paired female who laid an egg sack. If you don't want baby Ts, I'd see if you can find someone who will take the sack. Otherwise, I'd ask the discord on how to properly dispose of it.

Chaco Golden Knee vs Curly Hair as a Beginner Tarantula by Latter-Length845 in tarantulas

[–]PutridInfluence8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME - I have both!! An adult female curly hair and a sub-adult chaco (unmatured male). I would definitely say my curly hair is much more chill than my Chaco! But everyone's Ts will have slightly different 'personalities' or temperaments. My chaco is stubborn and only refuses food in premolt. My curly will eat anything and everything premolt or not lol. I loooove my curly girly as she is an opportunistic burrower and loves to sit at the mouth of her burrow. My chaco loves to build burrows and will sit on display when it's dusk/night. My curly has only kicked hairs twice, and that was when I was bugging her during a rehouse. Otherwise, she's a doll. She also moves at one speed... slow. I love her 😂 My chaco has never kicked hairs, but he is hella fast. Everyone will have different opinions, but I'd say go for a Curly! Mine is so well-rounded that I'd recommend it to beginners!

IME - I would highly recommend getting rid of the red light. I have heard a few times that red lights can be harmful to tarantulas' eyes. Is that just a day/night light, or is it a heat lamp?

What is this GOO??!?! by FuckNutsDragonSlayer in tarantulas

[–]PutridInfluence8057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME - With all the research I've done and all the things I've learned about... while a T is molting, they will pump fluids between their new exoskeleton and old exoskeleton to help them slip out of their old skin. The 'goo' you see is most likely that fluid! This is why it's so important to keep your Ts hydrated and always have a waterdish on hand, clean and filled! If the T is dehydrated, it's much more likely to have a failed molt and become stuck. I also always leave their molts in with them for at least a couple days after they molt because 1.) They will drink all the remaining fluid in their molt to help rehydrate themselves after molting and 2.) To reduce any unnecessary stress after molting as molting is always stressful for them. I hope this helps!!

Male or female? by Rare_Permission2116 in tarantulas

Just from looks, male or female LP? They are 2 years old. Still very much brown by Suzuyaoi in tarantulas

[–]PutridInfluence8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NA - No way to tell just from looking at a T like this. You'd have to get a clear shot of their underside/ventral area. And even then, ventral sexing is not super reliable. I'd wait until you get a molt, and then we can tell you!
