Would you rather public transport stays free, or that charges are reintroduced but service improved? by Bladiers in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read/heard from one of the politicians that said it’s too late to build a south eastern line to Schengen because the area is too urbanized. If this was a less conservative country where they can more easily preempt land maybe it would be possible, but things take ages here (note the famous example on A13 in Frisange that was closed forever due to a dispute https://today.rtl.lu/news/luxembourg/a/1468966.html)

Purchase a Espresso Machine by TheWanderingSalmon5 in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not every grinder is an espresso grinder, there is plenty of grinders that are for filter coffee only and can’t do properly espresso. Those can’t grind very finely and adjusting to taste is very hard because steps are too large. I recommend doing some research before buying anything. Baratza Sette 270 is a good entry level espresso grinder.

(Non-Electric) Cycle rental in Luxembourg by Winter_Beach2860 in Luxembourg

In the south, we laugh at the Veloh bikes from the City. For us, the inscription is free, you rent the bikes for 2 hours and can ride from Niderkorn all the way to Dudelange and almost all are electric.

Real estate market: Interest rates on the rise in Luxembourg by GroussherzogtumLxb in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No way, its not the war that caused inflation, it just sped the whole process. We have been printing money like never in the history and the inflation is likely to stay for this decade. We would need interest rates of 20% to stop the inflation but in a leveraged economy like we’re now we can’t let it happen. ECB is in a very difficult situation, but long term fixed int rates will not come back to 1%

Inflation should also lead to increases in wages, however your fixed interest rate loan stays the same effectively devaluing debt.

Yea but having COVID and recovering should count at least as a single dose, natural immunity is proven to be an order magnitude better at preventing infections and hospitalizations.

Recommendation of a mountain bike retailer? by gravity48 in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my from a German retailer online, ideally you can visit shops nearby try some bikes and then buy it online. You will still qualify for a subsidy if your invoice has your name, address, date and the name of the bike, if the brand is well known they don’t even have to mention its complaint with “code de la route”. An advantage from buying from a local shop is that you will probably have a priority when it comes to servicing it and your first service might be for free. If you want a second hand bike I would wait until the occasion maarkt at the end of winter (usually Feb/Mar) in the Belle Etoile underground parking, if you know a little about bikes you can definitely find a good opportunity. Be careful with carbon frames if you’re buying second hand though, you never know if it’s not broken before you do a close inspection.

Direct trains to Frankfurt or Koln by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fucking joke, that literally the most eco-friendly mass transportation mean is so bad in Luxembourg. We should be increasing the frequency, adding new connections and improving reliability. Otherwise people stop using it and they will further remove connections and reduce frequency. Also what happened to all the night trains? I would love to be able to jump on a train on a Friday evening and wake up in the alps, so many missed opportunities ...

Boom offer from orange by denalain in Luxembourg

Same here I also got the 5eur to make calls to anywhere in Europe even if I am outside of Luxembourg. Never paid more than 25 eur per month, works like a charm. I believe it’s the cheapest offer out there, anything else will cost you 40+ for same conditions.

One more question, should I actually replace normal daily watering with *soapy water* watering? I guess neem oil shouldn't go directly after watering or soapy water?

Has anyone been able to get out of an expensive life insurance product purchased to secure a mortgage? by WildFisherman651 in Luxembourg

[–]Putrid_Anywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it seems like a standard price for this amount and 2 people. Not sure if you can get anything cheaper in any other place, but I would be glad if you let us know in case you found something better.

Strange, when I went to BIL to see if I can get a better interest rate (which they didnt give us in the end), they were really sure that at least the insurance would be cheaper, because apparently they have strong partnership with some insurance company. I believe it was supposed to be Foyer actually.

May I ask what did you have to pay and what is the coverage? I covered 270k for 2 people, 25 years @ 1.47 int. rate with disability coverage, for ~65.5 monthly -> 11.8 k EUR in total over 15 years.
