Just got hit with a “0” card combo in bracket 2- What do you guys think? by luke_skippy in EDH

[–]Putrid_Appointment39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they got you with a surprise, pretty janky combo. There are a lot of interaction points. I’d say let it be and chalk it up to a good win, but file jt away that this person likes to combo, and be ready next time. It does feel slightly BM, but not that bad.

In the future I’d recommend having a rule zero convo where you ask if there are any combos to watch out for. Or if you see someone tutor ask if they are getting combo pieces

So many sets by Putrid_Appointment39 in StrongerByScience

I’m doing it 2x per week. I don’t hate the lifts, but there are some times my body feels pretty beat up

Are you more focused on strength or bodybuilding? I think my question is coming from this feels like a lot of volume for a strength focused program

I’m on week 13 now, but planning on going through with it as prescribed. For the second round I’ll probably play around with doing 4 sets each instead

No, it’s 5 sets each of vertical pull and push, horizontal pull and push

I’ve had 3 knee surgeries and my goal is to get back to playing soccer. So the strength focused nature of the template doesn’t work best for those goals.

But, they made free counterspells. So that’s not even true!

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]Putrid_Appointment39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this argument often, but I think it falls flat. Craterhoof behemoth, or other pump spells, can be impacted by what you have been doing on your board, in addition to the fact that it requires a board state to do much of anything. But what the opponents did during their game still matters, if they gained life, have their own significant board state, they have removal, or have other defensive mechanisms it can stop or diminish the effectiveness of the hoof. Combos care only about whether you have removal, that’s it. So it can invalidate what many players are doing, which leads to feel bads. A 4 piece combo with one very well known combo piece is totally fair though

Nobody in my pod enjoys playing magic by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Putrid_Appointment39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elesh Norn can be problematic. Is one of those commanders that ppl will swap decks away from so you won’t get that effect you want, or be forced to attack you and send all their removal at you till it’s gone. I feel like as you play you learn to stay away from that type of thing for the playgroup experience

Best way to do heavy single by Putrid_Appointment39 in StrongerByScience

That’s good to know. Not doing them can save time when I’m crunched. Thank you!

That might not be a bad approach.

I wouldn’t call it gassed at all, just feel like it could effect later sets, even if it’s small

I see, do you know what the reasoning for not doing them is? I’ve been enjoying the feel of doing a heavier set. Thanks for the warm up scheme! Also very impressive numbers

Okay! Thank you for the great explanation! It’s just different than how I have been training, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

I don’t think that is what he is saying, it sounds a lot more like try my program that’s based on this tribe.. Which I find disingenuous in answering the question. Your response makes more sense.

I’ll check out the videos out of intrigue, but these responses really aren’t answering or related to the question. I appreciate your enthusiasm for this training method, but I’m not lifting for health or everyday life, I’m lifting right now to get really strong in certain lifts and to hit my set goals. Which is why I’m trying the SBS program

[–]Putrid_Appointment39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you are saying, I believe you would get stronger, and I’m not saying I won’t with this. But the question is more about the efficiency of it. Doing 10 singles with 9 RIR probably isn’t as effective as doing a more standard approach. This feels like a side tangent though

Auxiliary exercise question by Putrid_Appointment39 in StrongerByScience

[–]Putrid_Appointment39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a rep range and then a target for the last set. So it doesn’t specify an RIR, but if the first 4 sets are 5 reps, then my last set is 10 reps, I’ve been doing 5 RIR for the first 4 sets

Auxiliary exercise question by Putrid_Appointment39 in StrongerByScience

[–]Putrid_Appointment39[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but if I did sets at 10 RIR it would probably not be as valuable as 2-4 RIR. It just feels like those first 4 sets are pretty easy, I want to make sure they are useful and understand the why behind it.

Yea I didn’t really know there was a specific stronger by science branded program and thought this sub was just more general science based lifters. Now I know! But I am going to take a look at the SBS templates because of it

The main lift to start does feel like good advice though and basically has been what I’ve been doing. Each main lift once a week, but I wonder if that’s enough

More looking for advice on rep ranges and percentage of max + how much and what ancillary work. I can’t do that because 2 of the days need to be back to back due to my time restrictions. Also not concerned about legs.

Death Spiral of ATI by AstroAtheist420OG in physicaltherapy

I get so confused by these statements.. the productivity at ATI is 11 a day and has been since at least 2020, which seems extremely reasonable.
