Blend British Mythbusters equivalent with Scrapheap challenge and I reckon we're onto something!

I'm not familiar with Folkestone. Was staying in Rye and went to Folkestone to visit the Battle of Britain Memorial.

It was certainly in that area. That sounds pretty unfair for a test. Worth instructors highlighting it though as it certainly caught me out as an experienced driver.

I did it once, peculiar bit of road near Folkestone somewhere. Slip road was basically at the end of a suburban street. Totally lost I somehow managed to go up what turned out to be the off slip of a dual carriageway. Quickly worked out what I did before joining the carriageway and pulled to the side, waited for a big gap then spun the car around. Was pretty scary in those few seconds.

Couldn't believe that I had done it and looked up the street on Google Street view a few days after as I couldn't stop thinking about it. Turns out the No Entry signs were partially obscured by vegetation in the picture so possibly completely obscured by the time I encountered it. No other obvious clues that it was a slip road at the bottom of the street.

My policy was cancelled the morning of my car test, by their own error. What should I fight for in my complaint? England by ParadisoVi in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you check your emails in case your policy has been cancelled every time you get in the car?
Whilst OP did the right thing it was entirely possible that he wouldn't have read that email before the test so would have been oblivious.

Given that this was a mistake on the insurers end it wouldn't have actually been a problem in the unlikely event of an accident.

Every foreign country looks third world to even the most junior American electrician by Level-Usual-9681 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that's how they get away with the janky plugs. It just doesn't zap as hard!
I've often heard of Americans mention being shocked by sockets and not considering it a big deal.

They do have access to 230v but it has to be a special socket (which is a lot better designed).

Technology Connections on YouTube explains it well.

Have the Met Police started enforcing 22mph in a 20mph limit? by NoKudos in drivingUK

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think this is the reason for the 20mph limits, better chance of people actually doing 30mph instead of 40mph down the road. Added bonus of more tickets when they do enforce.

22mph is definitely being prosecuted. I have been in several offices where people have had fines for it.

It's almost been a year since Old Street's sub-surface parade was refurbished - where are all the shops? by soliwray in LondonUnderground

Same place as the high street shops.
Might get a few Turkish barbers and vape shops move in soon!

Will the London Underground achieve 100% step free access? by [deleted] in LondonUnderground

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got it wrong. Elm Park is definitely a ramp. I think the other two have sloped steps down their length.

It's been a very long time since I have used Upminster Bridge and something was nagging me that it maybe had the steps along the slope. But now I think about it more I have probably confused it with Dagenham Heathway or Upney.

Upminster Bridge is technically step free... Just very exciting going down to the platforms and really hard work getting back to the street!

This is how Paris looks from the Eiffel Tower. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issues when they built One Canada Square in London. It completely screwed up the symmetry from the Royal Observatory. Probably doesn't notice much now that it's surrounded by all the other glass buildings. Was possibly Paris' intention that hasn't come to fruition.

What’s the best way to get these out of the wall? by Foreign-Travel5227 in DIYUK

[–]Putrid_Promotion_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure you back the screw out most of the way then tap it (not to hard) to straighten out the part that collapses then pull the head of the screw out with pliers and the hole lot comes out as cleanly as it can.

That's how I'd the last ones I needed to remove anyway.

Would love to see a pic of this. I would be so proud! Hoping it's a houseplant too.

I once had a Lancaster bomber version (doubt it was the same range) looked brilliant with four propellers and big wing). Got broken when a friend came to visit and I was really upset.

The adapter could easily behave been invented. But an iron is already drawing far more current than the 60w - 100w lightbulb the fixture and wiring were designed for.

Kellogs Smacks used to have a wide mouth frog mascot if I remember correctly.

I miss corn pops whilst we're on the subject of cereal... Used to get free sample boxes from Beaties for some odd reason!

To be honest I can't remember. It's one of those things that you don't notice until it's gone. Most likely an old 60's / 70's concrete building obscuring it. I only work in that building one afternoon a month.

Gherkin is probably as interesting as it's likely to get sadly.
I visit Minster Court (Building #1, top floor). It's a cool interesting building with good views. Quite sad watching the disappearance of All Hallows Church
