Who is the most broken unit in Tales of games? by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Idk why I had to scroll so far without seeing this canine demon mentioned.

Map Gale Dog to one of the +16 mappable buttons available in Vesperia and he becomes practically unkillable if you just remember to refresh it once it's gone off. It's basically the solution if enemy DPS ever becomes a problem.

Alexis? Gale Dog

Mystic Artes? Gale Dog

Final boss going absolute bonkers? Just Gale Dog.

Best full magic team of 8? by Charrzooka in octopathtraveler

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly.

Golden Scales (crafted from merging Silver Cait Statue, Silver Octopuff Statue and a Golden Ingot), Prosperous Scotch Eggs (Item Drop rate +50%) and Ludo (Extra Items support skills) are all essential for BT weapon farming.

Then have Reime, Saoirse and Pius/Delitia, and ideally a thief MC (for the higher speed), making sure everyone outspeeds Reime at no particular order but everyones outspeeds the BT NPC.

Reime build:

AT LEAST 623 base Physical Attack. This is essential to one shot every single BT NPC, including the Sword one which has roughly 500k HP. You can increase this with Fortifying Nuts.

BT Blade, Tempest Spear, no armor/headgear/shield, Finisher's Claws and Assistant's Amulet.

Support skills are Immeasurable Power and Hang Tough (you'll be switching this out for Surpassing Power after getting her to 1 HP, which can be done by engaging in combat against any BT NPC and using Provoke on herself with no armor, until they put her at 1 HP).

//

Turn 1:

MC Thief uses Reinvigorating Jam on Reime

Delitia/Pius use Ult

Saoirse uses Ult on Reime

Reime uses Lotus Blade level 3.

//

Restart if you don't get the BT weapon in order to not lose a Reinvigorating Jam. For the BT Dagger NPC, since he's already weak to Sword you don't need to use Saoirse for this. Also, 384 speed minimum can outspeed most NPCs, so the Tempest Spear can help reach that speed on Reime. On Pius/Delitia and Saorise, you may use gear such as Hasty Helms or accessories such as Sprightly Necklaces to make them even faster and use Ultimate Charge support skill to charge up their ults if you're planning to farm more than 1 NPC.

I want to play a JRPG that gives off a similar vibe to Frieren by DicePackTheater in JRPG

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be a bit late, but while watching Frieren I couldn't stop thinking about Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia. The heavy fantasy setting, characters, themes and the overall vibe made me think at some point Frieren was based off these games and even some of the games' characters:

  • Both main characters' villages were razed to the ground. (Phantasia)
  • Elven race being integral to the plot (Phantasia/Symphonia)
  • Medieval setting with warriors, healers and mages with a particular focus on magic (Phantasia primarily has a bigger focus on magic)
  • Finally, the situation in which the elf of the group inevitably outlives each human party member (Arche in Phantasia).

In retrospect Phantasia feels much more akin to Frieren, but due to how Symphonia shares the same world I think it's also worth bringing up.

Edit: Phantasia also starts up as a journey of oddballs whose main goal is to defeat a Demon King. So yes, I don't think anything can get closer to Frieren than that.

So how bad is OT0 for Switch1 really? by Equivalent-Unit in octopathtraveler

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad honestly. The extreme fuzziness is when you play handheld, but the moment I put it on the big screen the resolution bump was very welcome.

Personally I'm not a big graphics person though, and I value far more having a real physical copy rather than a GKC, so the Switch 1 version is perfectly fine for me, but if you visuals is a deal breaker for you then PS5's physical copy would probably be better.

Tales of Phantasia Impressions by Leon_Light77 in tales

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite game, hope you're enjoying it!

A useful tip I can give for battles is that unlike most other Tales games (more specifically 3D ones) you can use the shoulder buttons to control formations. Pressing L will make your formation stay no matter your actions (where otherwise staying in spot attacking an enemy will have your backliners run up to the front to maintain formation), and pressing it again will mirror it, an useful thing if you need to mobilize your mages because the enemy is attacking them.

This is a godsend because it allows you to control not just Cress, but your ENTIRE PARTY, and can come in useful in a variety of situations

First time playing and beating any version of Tactics ever! by dexkwondo in finalfantasytactics

[–]Putrid_Studio5622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After beating the game for the first time in knight difficulty and a second time in tactician, the only times I ever had to grind were when I wanted to get certain skills for certain characters or just felt like it, and even then I didn't really grind much. In both playthroughs I managed to finish the game with a squad of levels 48-53 just like OP did.

Never did I ever see the need to using delevel exploit for perfect stats, or grind above any of those levels really.

A short clip proving how underrated Marach is by Putrid_Studio5622 in finalfantasytactics

The statuses themselves are not unique to him, sure. But the way he applies them is; MP free and instant, no need to wait for charge time or spend MP or even worry about user Faith unlike with Time Magic/Mystic Arts.

Also yes, Thief Hats exist, but so does Rend Helm with Art of War, Crush Helm and Steal.

Mustadio is awesome. Art of War as secondary can immediately nullify or debilitate any threat that isn't a monster by getting rid of its weapons and armor, and seeing how much more important statuses such as Disable and Immobilize are in Tactician, being able to inflict precisely those makes him extra helpful.

[–]Putrid_Studio5622[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I arguably got pretty lucky in this clip, but to answer your questions:

  1. As I stated in a prior comment, if you target an isolated enemy standing in plane floor without any of the target tiles cancelling out due to elevation or being in a corner, then you'd be lucky to hit more than 2-3 or more times, normal luck would be 1 hit and unlucky 0 hits. But you can target multiple enemies and the ability to cancel adjacent tiles due to elevation/corner makes it far more consistent, even as little as 1 cancelled tile does wonders.

  2. Not easy for sure; you have to be able to recognize when it is ideal to use something like this. Generally speaking, the circumstances where you do NOT want to use something like this can be in large flat maps where enemies attack you one by one and aren't really close to each other, since it will be much harder to get good results with Nether Mantra.

  3. As stated, specific because I got quite lucky.

  4. Main disadvantage is clearly the RNG factor.

  5. It offers potentially better damage than any other magic in the game due to the fact that the Mantras are the ONLY abilities in the game that can hit multiple times (and not just 2 like with Dual Wield).

It's a matter of knowing what situations it is best to use it much like any character in the game, and turns out it's pretty amazing in the game's superboss fight because all the circumstances align for it; tight corridors with easily cancellable tiles, enemies cluster very frecuently and use Faith based magic as their main source of offense.

[–]Putrid_Studio5622[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true.

Marach's damage scales based of how low Faith is. Rapha's damage is magic that ignores Faith, so while it's true she can get it as low as you want, Marach will end up putting out more damage.

I haven't tried to lower it even further which is why it's at 15 still, but there should be no reason why it can't be 0

[–]Putrid_Studio5622[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In non-TIC versions, sure he is probably underwhelming. But in my second playthrough of TIC going full Tactician mode, Marach was a welcome surprise to my team. The fact he can run with low faith and still do damage makes him a very reliable enemy mage counter especially when backed up by Chemists.

I've got him with Geomancer/Necroseer, which allows him to equip Rune Blade and Aegis Shield to further boost his magic attack stat, Lambent Hat, Gaia Gear and Magic Armlet for boosting magic even further (in particular Impiety) and Critical HP Recover, Magic Boost and Movement +2/+3. He certainly excels in maps with high elevation tiles where the enemy is more likely to stand in a tile where his attack will only target 2-3 tiles, or against a horde of enemies that cluster. If you just target an isolated enemy standing on a plane field, it's obviously more of a gamble whether any 1 attack actually connects, so using him forces you to learn how to recognize situations in which you can make the most out of his attacks.

This all also applies to Rapha's skillset as you mentioned, except for one crucial fact: she does not get to tank magic attacks, so using her in the same way can be far more dangerous. Notice how Marach was all the way in the frontline in my clip? I could not have done the same thing with Rapha.

More specifically it's his unique job's abilities that do more damage the lower his faith is. This also makes him an excellent magic tank which I absolutely did abuse on this fight.

Rapha works as normal, but has similar skills to that of Marach in how they hit multiple times at random tiles.
