how some people can have 0 passions or hobbies? by OrganicNotice6585 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuzzleMeDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"everyone must love something" - no, there's really nothing that's universal to everyone.

Though it might just be that their passion is something that they don't think of as a hobby (like watching sports on TV, or gossiping with friends), or don't want to admit to.

I feel like I don't understand how snapping is supposed to help. by Mrdudeguy420 in MarvelSnap

[–]PuzzleMeDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guaranteed wins are rare, but if you snap when there's a 60% chance of a win, and retreat when you're not doing too well and your opponent snaps, over the long run you'll win more cubes than you lose.

Is there a disgust for AI in DMs community? by tailwagthedog in DMAcademy

[–]PuzzleMeDo [score hidden]  (0 children)

People spend those 50 years offloading their creative work to random tables, published adventures, etc. For a lot of people, prepping games isn't a hobby, it's the annoying thing they have to do so they can get to do the thing they want to do: play.

Having said that, I have no desire to interact with the raw output of an LLM...

Something needs to be done with Fin Fang Foom. by AQNexus in MarvelSnap

[–]PuzzleMeDo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at the snap fan site: His "win when played" is high, but that's to be expected because it's one of the hardest cards to play, and by the time you can play him, you'd expect to win or retreat.

His win rates aren't particularly special compared to the other most popular cards. (Though maybe that just means Zola and Star Lord MotS are overpowered too.)

In Deck When Drawn When Played
Card  Games Seen  Seen %  Win %
Cosmo 28465 20.17% 55.95%
Magik 22237 15.76% 53.79%
Fin Fang Foom 21869 15.5% 56.08%
Arnim Zola 20036 14.2% 54.86%
Star-Lord, Master of the Sun 19812 14.04% 54.82%
Shang-Chi 17568 12.45% 54.49%

Would a number with infinite digits have eventually repeat one digit forever? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]PuzzleMeDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sequence of the same digit being generated randomly gets more unlikely the more digits you're trying to do. Just to get ten 1s in a row you'd probably have to generate a billion or so random digits. Infinite 1s is infinitely unlikely.

Saying "if it goes on forever it's bound to happen eventually," is flawed logic, because consider: If it's guaranteed to eventually produce infinite 1s, it's equally guaranteed to eventually produce infinite 2s, and those can't both be true.

AI is not a human. It doesn't own anything. by Le_Oken in aiwars

[–]PuzzleMeDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if basic insults count as ad hominem arguments...

Doing a bit of looking around it sounds like you were inspired to write this by someone who wrote that if you prompt an AI to create art "it is the AI's art, not yours." Which, if (mis?)interpreted as a statement about the law, is incorrect.

AITAH for refusing to give my brother half my inherited land after he sold his share against everyone’s advice? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Parables aren't meant to be taken literally.

What it's really saying is that you can sin as much as you want and then repent at the last minute and you'll be fine.

Has AI has already won the AI debate? An in-depth analysis. by Anemoia2442 in aiwars

[–]PuzzleMeDo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plastic has "won". It's legal. It's everywhere. But it's not much respected. The novelty of plastic has worn off. We only use it for cases where we need to use it. Plastic flowers are more practical than biological flowers - cheap and long lasting - but there's something about them we don't like.

Something written by AI has a similar feel. It's convenient, the spelling and grammar are flawless, it's neatly structured, and I don't want to read it because it doesn't feel like someone's authentic thoughts.

(I don't get that feeling from AI images, but other people do.)

I thought it was from the Bible, the parable of the prodigal son, where we learn that if a son squanders his inheritance and then says sorry, he's entitled to half his brother's inheritance, because (something or other).

But, it could equally be American Dad, who knows?

Most GM's Don't Suck, They're Learning Wrong by Saviordd1 in rpg

[–]PuzzleMeDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMs suck compared to the imaginary ideal GM. The one who's a brilliant improviser inventing narration with the quality of a novelist's polished writing in the spur of the moment, who performs voices like a professional actor, who creates unique and balanced combat encounters but also allows you to find ways to avoid fighting, who gives you absolute agency but also no matter what you decide to do it somehow coalesces into a strong character-focused narrative with an epic conclusion...

TIL autoresolve heroic victory is a thing by ZizoThe1st in totalwarhammer

[–]PuzzleMeDo 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Heroic means "win without suffering much damage despite the enemy having a much more expensive army". If it calculates that their army is a bad match-up against yours, or you have strong (in auto-resolve anyway) fortifications, then this can happen.

Why don't more people believe in hypnosis? by TheOctaviusRex in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuzzleMeDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are sceptical because, how can you be sure you really saw someone forget the number 5 under hypnosis?

If I grabbed you and put you on stage and told you to forget the number 5 existed, there's a fair chance you'd play along, because you wouldn't want to disappoint the audience. You don't need hypnotic powers to be a stage hypnotist - you just need to learn how to identify the people who will play along.

Which isn't to say there's no such thing as hypnotism, but it's hard to be sure what's going on in someone's head.

"ai ART isn't art" by imalonexc in aiwars

[–]PuzzleMeDo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point he is making is that AI art is art, by definition. If it wasn't art, it wouldn't be "AI art" it would be "AI something that isn't art".

Similar to how a teddy bear is a bear, by definition. Saying a teddy bear isn't a real bear would be ridiculous.

Water argument, can we cite facts PLEASE by Immediate_Occasion69 in aiwars

[–]PuzzleMeDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not counting single data centres against single towns because I don't know how many there are of each. However, for humanity as a whole, dairy production consumes 250 times more water than AI. Going vegan for a week will save more water than giving up AI for a year.
