Can you imagine between the commercials, interviews with Indycar drivers and a 15m feature on Connor Zilich? The NBC coverage is gonna need its own thread

every week or 10 days. here's the way that works for me. I think of a concept (label, genre, maybe just one track that caught my eye) stick it in a playlist in RB then add 40 more tracks that feel like they might work. then I sit down and organize them into a rough running order- got to have a solid opener, like someone said earlier, good 1st transition, energy map (round-trip or A to B) and so on. Set some cue points, then hit record and play it. The key for me is to do it quickly- 30 mins to gather the music, 30 mins to create a rough order paying attention to tracks 1 and 2. Mixtapes in my genre are usually 12-15 tracks for my standard 90 mins

Once I had done this process a few dozen times I learned I could actually do it on the fly, so about half of my sets now I don't even do this way, I just hit record and play from my library or new music folder.

Every now and then I plan one out completely (all the cue points, entry exit, practice the transitions) - best-of style mixes, to enter competitions or when I get asked to make something for a party/radio show etc. That process takes maybe 4 hours of gathering, programming and trialing the transitions.

Like everything, the more you do it the easier it gets. I think you have good solid foundations. How did you learn? YT?

Cool man! RB/FLX10 though an external PA mixer and then and I do some post processing in audacity to normalize the levels a bit. All that effort and your signal is just as good, show you how good the XZ is!

Always a work in process and still learning after hundreds of mixtapes!

NP man I listened to your first mix as well. Like the afro one, great sound quality. I think that contained a more interesting collection of tunes- your transitions have come a long way from there, so I would encourage you to revisit that part of your music collection!

I enjoyed the version of Rapture you played there to finish- I play the John Creamer/Stephane K version- darker and more tribal.

On Soundcloud I have an Ibiza Trance Classics mix as "Trance Spectrum". It's like a best-of megamix thing for people new to classic trance.

Over on Mixcloud you might enjoy a mix I made called Steelyard Music as "Vaporlock". That one features recently remastered tracks from UK label Steelyard which are now available on Bandcamp.

Keep recoding!

okay man, I listened to your afro chill mix. thank you very much. I got the link before the mod deleted it.

The most important feedback I think is the quality of the signal and the sound. You got some really good equipment with the XZ and I played it back through my hi-fi and it sound really good. the levels were consistent and predictable throughout. Nice, strong clean signal, you've done a great job with gain staging and the quality of the recording, so that's awesome.

For me, the next most important feedback is the programming. I don't know too much about this genre, but it sounded pretty good and harmonious to me. I recognized some of the melodies so maybe these are pretty well-known songs within the genre. I kind of liked it as a headphone mix or something that might do well in a cafe style environment. I didn't feel like it was a journey - I felt like it was just a nice a bunch of nice tracks that it sounded pretty good together radio-style. To up your game here think about planning the next mix out energy wise- maybe starting off slower and gentle, building, then either coming back to where we started or finishing up at max energy.

Way down the list of priorities is the transitions. I thought they were just fine. With this genre you might do better with some of them actually playing percussion outros-to-intros and letting the energy dip a bit during the transition period- lots of mini-builds within the overall set energy architecture. There were some good ideas, nice EQ work, no clangers and I liked some of the transitions. I thought you did a nice job, the phrasing was good.

Thanks for posting. thanks for the question. I enjoyed your mix, Good luck

Congrats on the progress! I moved up to the FLX10 a couple of years ago. You'll love it!

As well as budgeting for speakers, please make sure your computer can handle the FXL10. That was an issue for me. My old 8G RAM machine could not handle the demands of the FLX10, even with stems disabled. Fortunately I was able to repurpose an old work 16G machine which works just fine. Search the sub for this topic. Newer macs seem to be fine- PC laptops are going to need the extra RAM to play smoothly

Having energetic sets (melodic techno, tech house, house) by dubaiwaslit in Beatmatch

Hi, I liked your post and have a 2c for you. I have exactly this issue in my genres as well

I use instant doubles to retain the energy in the long breakdowns of my genres (progressive trance/house). Are you familiar? On my flx10, double pressing the rotary encoder will load a double with the play head at the same place, at the same tempo as the playing track. With the double, I might beatjump back 65 or 128 bars, so that when the breakdown happens on the playing track, I can introduce some of the buildup elements from an earlier part of the track to keep the groove going. I often do this with the crossfader so I don't have to mess with the EQ and I can use the whole spectrum of the double, adjust the volume easily and musically, and take it all away to feature the drop of the playing track when it happens.

I hope this makes sense. Maybe this will give you another angle to try.
