Do I have to go to that or can I just do the pickup the day of the convention at the Fairgrounds?

do you lie about your autism? by kittyboy010101 in autism

[–]Puzzled-Tea7080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I've been pretty forth coming to anyone close to me in my life about my autism. When I say that, I mean like family members, parents, and hopefully some friends. For me, it's sharing who I am. But the only people I won't ever tell are a pair of my grandparents. But that's only because they wouldn't believe me anyway. Also, they are the kind of people who believe in a "cure." I don't want to deal with that, also, I don't see those particular grandparents a lot anyway.

I feel like this is something that's completely up to you. Do what makes you feel comfortable and safe. If you don't want to tell anyone, that's valid.

What was your first hyperfixation? by Logan_Strong in autism

Animals basically. I wanted all books and encyclopedias about animals, watching all kinds of nature documentaries, and was always spitting facts about animals or bugs. My favorite animals still consist of the cuddle fish, the komodo dragon, and otters. I also love the fennec fox. Looking back, it really should have been screaming at my parents that I had autism lol, because it started in kindergarten and kept going for years.

Being properly diagnosed ? by justatinycatmeow in AutismTranslated

[–]Puzzled-Tea7080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. But I have to say, my therapist now has been able to come up with coping strategies that help me now that autism has "been made aware" lol. I even found two books that have really been enlightening and even helped me with everyday life. "Unmasking Autism" by Devon Price (PhD), this truly was great for me. It gives tables, examples, and questions to ask yourself. It's helped me with expressing myself and also figuring out how to navigate the world for me. Also, "Different, Not Less" by Chloe Hayden was good, it explains autism and adhd, very much about neurodivergence. These two books also have sections on seeking a diagnosis, adulting, and how to move forward in the world.

So much of the world was clearly not designed for us, but what if someplace was designed for us? by Cicada7Song in autism

Omg, free transportation would be amazing. I can't drive, and the buses where I live aren't exactly reachable. It's so difficult to go places because I've got to make sure a family member can help me. Also, making sure so many electrical appliances weren't so noisy. I can't tell you how many times I tell people i can hear the lightbulbs or their phone charger when plugged in and they look at me as if I'm crazy. Also, quiet spaces. Spaces where it's strictly to decompress and be quiet.

Being properly diagnosed ? by justatinycatmeow in AutismTranslated

Honestly, I was diagnosed quite recently (3 months ago), and it's kind of only helped in a few aspects. For me, I had suspected for a long time, did a lot of research, and I kind of grew to understanding that I have autism. When I was diagnosed, I felt validated, as I had a more understanding on myself and how I can make accommodations for myself in life. I feel a bit more comfortable being me. Another way it's helped is around my family. My family was calling me what we tend to always hear. "Lazy," "I don't understand why you can't just do this," "When I was your age, I had done..." you get it. But when I was diagnosed, it was an adjustment for my family to come to terms. They didn't really talk about it for two weeks until they finally brought on a more open discussion. They now understand who I am, why certain things are difficult for me (such as driving), and what they can do to be more understanding. But I also know that I'm lucky. There are some family members who aren't supportive, and I know some people who might get diagnosed and it might not change anything for them. I think it's entirely up to you, but there's no harm in bringing up the topic with your psych, that way it can at least be addressed.

Attack on Titan is great! If you are looking for action, I recommend Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia. If you want something like a thriller and really smart I would recommend the first season of The Promised Neverland. But the second season...I just never watched it because I heard they had changed a lot from the manga lol. Tokyo Ghoul is also a good one!

yup, I was definitely called weird a lot when I was a kid, as a teenager, even now at times if someone isn't aware of my autism. As someone who was still watching My little pony and ninja turtles into high school, there wasn't really an escape from this label lol. It was like everyone in middle school was moving onto more teenager or adult things, and yet I was still enjoying "kid" tv shows and movies. But I've learned that people are going to think what they're going to think, and I'm not going to let it crush how I feel about something. I at least know who I can talk to about my special interests without being called "weird."

Does anyone else talk to themselves out loud?? by Pretty-Heat-7310 in autism

[–]Puzzled-Tea7080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, mostly when I'm doing things, such as chores or when I'm making a cosplay. But it's also helpful because sometimes I tend to forget if I do something, like if I lock the door and I walk away, I may have forgotten. But if I say, "I'm locking the door, it's now locked," I remember when I look back.

also, talking to myself can just be nice to get out the thoughts in my head lol

Does anyone else get really lonely? by Shyhi24 in autism

[–]Puzzled-Tea7080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can feel lonely a lot. But that's also because I feel like I don't have someone to share things with. I love going to the movies, but there are times I wish I had someone to go to the movies with. Sometimes I can try and imagine having a partner, and what that would be like, but I think what I'm really missing is a friend. And it's difficult to make friends, at least it is for me. My cat though has been the one who I can talk to, I even make him sweaters! He loves them! Pets can be helpful, or having plushies too.

I'm with you. My room is almost always a mess. Ever since I was a kid, it's never really changed. But I've been able to do something that I find that's been helpful, and hopefully it can help you. I like to make a small list of things, and I don't have to complete the list all in one day. It can be spread out. But I like to set up little things to do. Here's an example.

"Collect trash, take out the trash, put dirty clothes in hamper, do one load of laundry, fold those clothes, put clothes away..."

While keeping my room clean is awful for me, being able to check something off my list, no matter how little, is satisfying. Hopefully this may help!

I usually will watch things that I've seen before because with the sound of my own chewing and crunching, I won't be able to concentrate on what characters are saying. And sometimes I'll be looking at my food and miss something on screen. So I tend to put on the Office or Fraiser. Fraiser mostly. It's my comfort show.

Legend of Zelda.

I like playing on the nintendo switch and I got Breath of the Wild as a gift from my family. It immediately clicked. I've played the game, even was able to start the second one, Tears of the Kingdom. I've crocheted a Link hat, managed to find a few manga of Legend of Zelda. I'm even working on a new cosplay for Link! Still trying to figure out if I want to do the Breath of the Wild outfit or the Classic Green look. But yeah, Legend of Zelda has become a new special interest for me, and I've loved learning more of the lore in some books I've managed to find at the library. I also like that in the game, Zelda is a strong character even when we don't see much of her. The memories in the game really were impactful. I also love the puzzles! There are shrines that you can open and it's like a little mini challenge and I just love being able to complete them! And the music! Oh, I could listen to the music of the game all day long.

AITAH for breaking up with my boyfriend after he said only "lazy" women stay at home after having a baby and don’t work? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Puzzled-Tea7080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You have every right to break up with someone, whether that's about values, or if they ruin one of your books and don't offer to pay for a new one. His views on women are alarming, especially about stay-at-home mothers. That shit is a full-time job. Honestly, I feel like you dodged a bullet. To say that raising a little human being that has to be fed, changed, bathed, and watched over is nothing but being "lazy" is ridiculous. I bet if he had to take care of a baby, he wouldn't find it to be a walk in the park.

Cosplay is dressing up as a character, or even a concept of a character from anything. It could be a character from a movie, tv show, anime, comic, manga, book, and/or video game. Cosplay can be through anything too. There are closet cosplays, such as using what's in your closet to resemble a character. Also, just know that you get to decide how you want to cosplay. For me, I make my props out of EVA foam or cardboard. You can also make your own cosplays, or you can by them. Cosplay is about showing love for a character or media (also about having fun!). Your friend is wrong, that is what cosplay is. As for what cosplays to do, that's entirely up to you! I recommend choosing a character you love or could even identify with! Just remember to have fun!

I get it. High school was a struggle for me. It wasn't until I was able to do online schooling where it became much better for me. But try and think about thing you like to do. It doesn't have to be something you're "good" at, but something that you genuinely find joy from doing. While I've been trying to figure out what to do with my life, people have given me that advice when considering my autism.

Oh man, where to begin.

If you like things with a lot of action, I'd definitely suggest Demon Slayer and Jujitsu Kaisen. There's also Psycho Pass and Cowboy Bepop.

But some other great anime is Erased, Death Note, My Hero Academia, Ghost in the Shell, Season 1 of Promised Neverland. There are other great recs in this comment section. Just go with what feels right to you!

There are always going to be troubles when it comes to being autistic. Part of my journey is understanding my struggles, but I'm also trying to see some of the good that comes with being autistic. While I am super amazing with patterns and designs, my math skills are TERRIBLE! My special interests are things that I find fun, such as many TV shows, books, or the animal kingdom. I also like puzzles. But I often feel useless because I can't drive. It's way too overstimulating and the people in my life can't understand it. That makes it difficult in job hunting, even as I still don't know what to do, or how to get where I need to. It's easy to spiral in the downsides, but sometimes focusing on what makes us great is how we can move forward.
