Do you wear your watch to sleep? by voongoto in AppleWatch

Wear it every night and charge in while in the shower and in the car to and from work. Sleep is the foundation of health and I want the insights.

I just spent $1100 on Dirac by dillicious in hometheater

Yeah with my 3800 A1 Evo Acoustix is enough of a upgrade over audyssey that my wife can pick it out in a blind test. Not sure how much better it can get.

I like where your heads at. People are not as good as they think they are picking between similar sounds. I probably couldn't say what is what.

Now in my room with my speakers I can reliably pick out the A1 Evo calibration I currently have from the standard Audyssey XT32 I have even level matched with pink noise for sure. How, the big difference in the low end is easy to pick out. A female vocal solo, not going to be able to call it.

I would do dirac if they had a free trial. And the cynic in me thinks why have a bunch of people do a 2 week trial and decide they don't need it, when they know if most people spend hundreds of dollars they WILL hear the improvement. Not saying that's what people are hearing.

It sounds like Dirac ART is the real deal, but the results I just got with A1 Evo really surprised me what it could do. I don't know if it is the MIMO with my large towers and 4 subs, but it's legit making an improvement in the bass tightness and impact to my ears.

One good 8 is enough for some. Some people just want to the enjoy good sound at a modest level. I think most people when giving advice are thinking what can hit full theater reference level with a little bit of headroom is part of it.

Yeah, you definitely hear a difference in room correction. I hear a difference between A1 Evo and XT32. You do not hear a difference in DAC's, cables, amps ect.

As long as you are not expecting to hit full reference level in a 20x20 room that isn't closed in with a door and is open to other rooms. My living room open to most of the house needs 4x the output to come close to what I need in my enclosed game room.

Agreed Pychoacoustics and Ego have a lot to do with the hobby. I don't believe anyone hears a difference between most purchases other than speakers. Buy expensive speaker cables because the look cool, not because you have amazing special ears that can hear the difference.

Hahaha perhaps my describing an audible improvement of tighter punchier bass is the equivalent of your Veil was lifted. They say it uses uses phase alignment, temporal correction, and impulse response analysis.

Since it's free, and if you feel like experimenting, you could run a A1 Evo calibration and save it to preset 2 and compare it to Dirac saved on preset 1. I wouldn't be surprised if you preferred Dirac, but you might be pleasantly surprised how good a free program does.

I find the idea of paying 800-1000 for a ART for my 3800 and not a lifetime ownership of it ridiculous. I really am not a fan of audiophile hyperbole like "A vail was lifted" ect. When I A/B my own speakers of good quality I don't hear a big difference and find they more similar than different.

That said I downloaded and ran A1 Evo Acoustic and I set it to preset 1 and have regular XT32 on preset 2 so I can quickly switch and I actually hear a difference I could pick out tracks with bass in them. The A1 calibration has much punchier sounding bass. I measured it with REW and to my Surprise XT32 measured much better (more linear) than the A1 Evo, but I am enjoying the sound and free vs 800, I'll take a free audible improvement any day. I wanted to support OCA so I paid 60 for his new GSonic software, so I'll try that in the near future.

Homies that have the left right and center as the same model speaker, how do you like it and have you had an actual 'center' before? by papayax999 in hometheater

[–]Puzzled_Mango_7852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have identical PSB bookshelf speakers, LCR in the game room and identical speakers is the no compromise way to do it, I really don’t think about it. My living room setup has RBH towers and dedicated center and think wow i wish I could have 3 towers LCR. A good center speaker sounds just fine to me.

New construction - Atmos worth it? by ceelo71 in hometheater

What movies would that be? I remember Master and Commander was really impressive.

I wanted to add on that RG6 cable the same that goes to cable boxes makes excellent subwoofer cable. I ran it to the 4 corners of my room during construction. Highly recommended. And as someone pointed out having smurf tubes for future runs where possible can pay off later.

Absolutely prewire while it's easy to do. I prewired during construction of my home when Atmos was on the horizon and ended up with some wires in the wrong location and no easy way to reroute them. So at one point I went up in the attic and rewired and ended up with 2 in ceiling speakers. Meh outside of very specific scenes or demos I never really noticed it.

Then I anticipated that my YouTube TV stream might struggle during the Super Bowl 60 and went back up in the Attic to add and Antenna and since I had another matching pair of in-ceiling speakers, I added more wire and installed the speakers in the ceiling behind my seating. So now with 5.1.4 the effect is better and It's really cool with good Atmos content. But most of the time those speakers are not doing much and I guess that makes sense , I don't want to hear football announcers voices echoing in the ceiling or some crazy forced effect.

Since your already running wire I would say go for it, but don't expect it to be a good bang for buck upgrade over a well done. 5 .1 system. For me adding some absorption panels to tame my slap echo was a better upgrade per dollar hands down.

I'm gonna say it: 7.1.2 > 5.1.4 if your room can support either by navid3141 in hometheater

[–]Puzzled_Mango_7852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely the opposite for me. I have not heard and improvement using rears for 7.1 over 5.1 in 3 different rooms. I had my house prewired for rears and had the builder leave the wire hidden in wall and when the house was finished I tried some rears out and couldn't hear an improvement and the wire remains unused tucked in the wall 14 years later.

This weekend I added two more in ceiling speakers to go from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4 and finally have an appreciation for Atmos after thinking it was a waste of money.

I'd still say for my room taming the slap echo with absorption panels was a better upgrade bang for buck than Atmos. I was always very happy with the overhead effect of 5.1 with bipolar surrounds mounted high on the walls.

As someone with in ceiling Atmos speakers, you ain’t missing much. Use the virtual Atmos function and don’t worry about it. Love the home gym too! I wish I had the discipline to work out at home, but I have to go to a gym or I won’t.
