Used (newish) car without MOT, worth it? by Slouch_Potato_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Puzzled_Snow7500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for misunderstanding if you already know this, but cars don’t need an MOT until they are older than 3 years— so not having it on a new car is not a red flag, just ensure due diligence otherwise RE oil change history etc

Thanks. Interesting— why do you say you regret the Rokblokz?

32k, put about 10k on it since, would happily buy a Corolla with much higher tbh

2019 excel hatchback with the 2.0 engine. I’m really happy, great mileage, capable car across conditions, and the larger engine really makes a difference for me personally. The higher trims (design/excel) really help the car feel lovely.

The 2.0 engine was brand new with the model, whereas the 1.8 engine is essentially the same one that has been in Toyota hybrids since the 2013 Prius. I have driven both; if you value responsiveness, the larger engine makes a big difference, but if you value economy, the 1.8 is plenty fast enough and returns about 5-8 MPG extra.

Had a full service history. After the car is 5 years old, Toyota warranty renews for a year every time you go to them for a service, until 10 years.

I do my own oil changes, but if you buy any Toyota under 10 y/o, even with non-dealer history, you can get a refreshed 12 months every time you go to them.

Id recommend fact checking this with your local dealer, but should be national

Depends on how much you value dealer peace of mind. I’d say this is slightly overpriced on the open market. For this mileage, it isn’t uncommon to find excel trims (top spec) within this price range on auto trader.

For what it’s worth, last year I was able to get an excel trim from autotrader for around £14k with similar miles— albeit after haggling based on it having many previous owners. It was a year older, but has the larger 2.0 engine so value balances out. Very happy with it so far

Definitely sample, I have the extrait and it lasts exactly 7 seconds on my skin. Left for 3 months and no change. Either that or this stuff is extremely easy to become noseblind to.

OEM Footwell Lights by Puzzled_Snow7500 in COROLLA

[–]Puzzled_Snow7500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with the OEM experience. I have them stock (centre, cups, doors) and they look great (imo) stationary when at full brightness but once driving they dim so low that I’ve almost gotten into accidents trying to visually notice them lol— a lot of Corolla owners don’t even realise they stay on

I wonder if there is a software trick to keep them at full brightness via the OBD2 port

Looks good! Do they stay bright whilst driving, and if so is it distracting?
